Son Of Medicine Man

Hi Everyone,

I added the last upper belt to the second ejection seat.  I went a little further on this one and added the small retaining belt.  It was a pain but it adds a little more detail.  I will have to touch up with some paint when it dries.  This seat overall has turned out better than the other, so if there is one that is more prominent than the other that is where this one will go.

 Son Of Medicine Man:

Hi Everyone!

Sorry that I have been away for a few days.  Life just seemed to get in the way.  I mentioned that we have another dog here we have been baby sitting.  When my wife is not here, I have to spend time with it.  I feel sorry for the poor thing.  I don't think it gets any attention at its own home.  Another crisis was at my Mom's house.  That took up a great deal of time as well.  But the dust seems to have settled for a moment.

I did get to attend my local IPMS chapter monthly meeting Friday night.  I really enjoy going to those.  (I may have mentioned that once or twice!)  A really great bunch of guys.

I did manage to get a little work done on my ejection seats.  Here is a picture of what they look like so far:

Well, school starts back up tomorrow which means I have homework due.  Chat with you folks later.

Ken

Yeah Ken;

It never ends,

Ivy's sister is recovering from a colo-section..,

My old art associate is dying of metatsticized cancer..she's toast and in total denial..

My friend Geroge, a WWII artillery spotter, is in hospital in his 93rd year..

and his son is writing him off..didn't call me to let me know..

he probabley won't get out..

my other pal's dad just died..direct deposit..ouch..

and i 'owe' the gov for deemed disposal...enough about me....

I think there are lots of guys here going through this,

thank goodness for the kits......

So,

Does the little guy need a home....?

We're gonna get a pal for our pal....lol

By the way,

Nice seats,

Yeah you got that material so stretched it looked liked synthetic...

You have a definite knack for the micro detailing, i can't tell if is is Edouard, or Ken......

Hi Dom,

Man, I am really sorry to hear about all of that grief that is going on in your life right now.  You really need a vacation!  You have friends here that care.  That is a lot to weigh on your mind.

Ken:

That hankie cloth, is it like a stretchy nylon, or polyester?

I can't see doing that technique with cotten?

I will try your technique, I saw the dash you did back in the Rhino GB.

Hi Dom,

No, that is 100% cotton, but a very fine close thread count.  I would be afraid of using a material like nylon or polyester because it may actually melt when it comes in contact with the mineral spirits.  But I may be wrong.  I would test it first to be sure.

A beautiful Sunday, and just enough time and beer to cut actuators:

http://cyberspaceage.com/images/549_IMG_8182.JPG

It's a nice feeling they are cut.

Now for the real persnickity part; gluing them in place.

This is a job only MEK can perform.

Hi Dom,

Great work on those actuators!  Yes  You deserve another beer!  Beer

A few things Rich, Ken, and i worked on:

How can a guy love a jet that much...his country...I can't even begin to say how much i respect a guy who would dig an F-4 out of a mud paddy only to save another guy and get blown up in the process.

Well, life ain't fair.....and that's why we remember them.

"....Dom....Doc said I can smoke all I want.....that's not what killed me........."

What a straight up guy.Yes

Berny loved big jokes, not the ones with the 2 second punch lines, but the ones some people take a life-time to reckon with......it was his way of teaching.

i think a lot of guys, many of them here, who served like he did, get those jokes right away........oh man, did he respect ordnance........and a great lunch!...lol....

Shishh....we found an obscure WW II bomb at Wright Patterson, he had never seen one before, it took us ten minutes to tear him away from it......like that was his new best friend!.....lol....what a guy!Big Smile

Ummm, what's "paint?".....lol

SH: Glad to see you were able to work something out there Yes

Ken: Interesting, sorta dry-brushing in reverse- instead of adding more paint to the high spots you're removing it.

So, Ken does "scratch" after all!Whistling

Greetings everyone,

Tonight I used my technique on the photo-etch.  I will explain with pictures.  First I take a glazing spreader like the one in this picture:

Then I take a piece of tightly woven cotton cloth like a handkerchief, soak a small portion of it with mineral spirits, then wrap that soaked area around the glazing spreader and hold it tight like in this picture:

Next I go over the photo-etch while it is laying flat on a smooth surface with the glazing spreader very carefully watching how much paint I am removing with each pass.  This will remove the paint from the high area and leave the paint in the low "etched" area.  Here is a picture of the final result:

This techique also works real nice on a two color paint instrument panel photo-etch but is a little more complicated because it also involves using acrylic paint.  If you want to see that technique let me know and I can find where I posted it in the F-4 Phantom build.

Well, I managed to find some affordable decals for the MIG 29.  I snagged a set of Ivans Eagles decals From EagleStrike decals.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/350460664189?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

So the MIG is now back in the race.  Good thing too.  I opened the SU35 kit to discover that all of the instructions were in Chinese.  No English whatsoever.  If   anyone has the Trumpeteer SU35/37 kit... (below)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280834518955?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Could you please consider making me a scan of your instructions?  It's not the most graphically descriptive instructions I have seen, and I have no clue on colors for it. lol

Rich

Hi Rich,

So should I update page 1 with your choice of the Mig 29?

Early indications of Styreniferous Stratification are evident - EVEN AT SUCH AN EARLY STAGE OF FORMATION!

If you think my old one was packed..  I have even less space here... Check this out..

And another one...  BTW, the F4U you see on top of the Voodoo box is a new build.  I needed a weekend project, so I hauled out an old minicraft kit that was missing half it's landing gear and did it wheels up.

I really need a good higher chair in there....

Gamera, thanks for the info on the MIG decals.  Sprue bros charges a ton on shipping.  Heck, with the shipping, the decals would cost more than the kit, so I think it's a Sukhoi after all...

Yeah, I rest my feet on the chair's roller-style legs.......

all the room under the table is taken up with paint supplies and kits......

All the room under the regular chair is kits........

the closet......kits.......

under the other desk.....kits....

above the desk.....kits....

behind the door....kits....

If I put my foot down by accident, I squash a Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I....lol......

uhhhhh.....who needs feet exactly?.........lol.....they get in the way!Wink

I was very impressed with Rich's ancient multi-layered work-bench before he moved.....

To say it was messy is like criticizing the Carboniferous Periods. I like to think of

it as the Styreniferous Period.

You don't get time and styrene built up into strata like that overnight.......

I think they had helicopter tours of his building canyon,

and rumor has it........Whispermule teams of tourists went in........an' never come out!Whisper...lol....

Yes, I remember seeing a picture of it during a contest of who had the messiest workbench.  I think he won a trophy!  Bow Down
