Ken, you do realize that as soon as you start the Phantom, it's going to get messy again...  It's a sad fact of modeling.  No matter how clean the bench is, it instantly goes to mess when styrene packaging is opened...

Scuza me, gotta go and do some more on that darn Revell F/A-18 kit...  I just got through upscaling some real cool decals. :)

Hi Everyone,

It is done!!  My workbench is cleared, organized, and cleaned!  I am finally all set and ready to start building.  It was a lot of work and I am glad it is done.  The clean and organized workspace will make starting on the Phantom that much more enjoyable.  Smile

Ok, no one else is posting so you'll just have to suffer with another one of my updates Big Smile.

I'm just about to button up. I finished up the nav antenna compartment (chin radome), such as it is, with a sprinkling of equipment to simulate much more that would be in there; unfortunately, I don't have any good pictures of this compartment, probably because the equipment in those days was classified or sensitive. I'll wait to install the antenna until I put on the final fuselage details.

Cheers,

Russ

I added the upper port and starboard cooling vents but will have to wait on the lower 6 until after the fuselage is closed and I start on the ECM antennas.

Excellent work Russ!  That looks great!  Yes  Yes

When my pop died it took me a while. But i deal with things differently to alot of people. It hit my cousin the hardest, she still breaks down occasionally. He passed on late last year. We laugh and have our moments, but it doesnt take much to set her off. It could be his coping mechanism at this point has become a road trip or concentrating on the bench rather the interacting with people.

That was me with the apache, 3 weeks is a long time. Hoping its just an Internet thing. Or possibly hes on holiday. Or like i said earlier, he got lost while trying to clean up his workbench. Did he mention anything about going away?

I know he was still having a tough time dealing with the passing of his Mom.  We were passing private messages back and forth but the last one I got from him was 9/21/2012 at 4:02 AM EDT.  Of course I was asleep when he sent it and I had company over Friday evening so I didn't respond until 7:43 AM EDT Saturday morning.  I never got a reply.  He lives near the west coast so he is on a different time zone.

Hi Russ,

That was Mike that said that.  Jim's last post was on 9/21/2012 at 3:50 AM EDT commenting on the new badge that Rich made.  Were coming up on three weeks since that post.  I am getting worried.

Ken

Ahh right, sorry Mike. Anybody got his email address?

Dom was just on this weekend, so it hasn't been that long. You're right in that it seems like weeks since Jim has been around though.

I seem to remember now that Jim said he was calling his Apache finished and was moving on to another build. Don't know if that means he won't be back...

Hi Folks.  I have a quick question.  My Math skills being pretty messed up, I was wondering if anyone knew of a chart or something that would tell me the percentage I need to enlarge a scan of a decal sheet, to take it from 1/48 to 1/32 scale?  Does anyone know the answer or an online chart or something that would have the answer?  Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

The workbench is almost done.  I have all my tools put where I can find them and get to easily.  All of the cockpit pieces have been put together so that when I am ready for them I can find them as well.  There is not very much left to clear, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Ken

Super job, Ken!  Once you've got everything cleaned up and well organized, you'll be ready to get back into building again. Then you can let it become cluttered and disorganized again so you can actually get something done Wink.

Dont care if theres not much to show, a stash is a stash, theres a reason most of us go into model shops and start drooling, its like the ultimate stash that you have to pay to withdraw things from.

OOohhh, i need to get me an F-105. Always been fascinated with that aircraft. Those forward swept intakes look so cool.

I hope you're going to post images of your stash shortly.

Not much to show, Mikey, but here it is:

Hi Russ,

Thanks for posting that link!  That was quite an interesting read.  I never knew that the B-52 was such a complicated aircraft to fly.  That makes me think about that pilot that pulled those amazing maneuvers in a B-52 that had the unfortunate accident.  He really was an incredible pilot!

Ken

You're welcome, Ken, and neither did I, bud. It also points out how critical it's flight characteristics were especially at low speeds, hence the tendency to crash when treating one as if it were a fighter or even a Cessna. He did some amazing things I hear, but I suspect he was always on the edge while doing it and he finally pushed one too far.

I know from experience crawling around inside it that there were hundreds of systems and subsystems in virtually every cubby hole and corner. It's truly amazing that everything worked most of the time and that the beast could actually get off the ground and get the job done Big Smile. It was then, and still is, a flying warehouse and has to be treated accordingly.

Russ

Very true Russ.  Like I said before, he reminded me of myself back in my younger years.  I was quite capable of doing crazy things like that given half the chance.  But now that I have matured I realize how dangerous and irresponsible something like that is.  It is amazing because I would have never thought I would hear myself say that!
