Russ:

I didn't say thank you for offering that F-86 canopy,

I won't turn it down, but please don't go to the expense of mailing it,

unless you happen to find another B-29 kicking aroundBig Smile

Ken:

That F-4EJ should have two canopy sets, one open, and one closed, so you'll have one extra,

I won't turn it down, but please don't go to the expense of mailing it,

unless you happen to find another B-29 kicking aroundBig Smile

Rich:

Thanks for keeping an eye open for another F-84F canopy for me,

I won't turn it down, but please don't go to the expense of mailing it,

Hey Ken, those new intakes are going to look great! Neat change from looking in the intake and seeing a black blank wall inside.

Hi Cliff,

Yes, that and the exhaust is the two biggest things this kit lacks so it is going to really spice it up!

Hi Everyone,

Slow and steady once again.  Tonight I was down to using a file.  I am glad I used the approach that I did.  It worked out pretty good.  I took some pictures with it just fitted together without it being glued of course:

Ken

Looking good, Ken! Yes Yes   Makes me want to start on my F-4 Big Smile.

Russ

Thank you Russ for the compliment!

Cheers Dom. All except maybe 4 kits received damage of some kind. Even my latest (At the time) build, my 1:48 Malcolm Hood P-51C lost one of its legs. I havent really touched that shelf, so unless the missus did something to it ill take photos tonight and show you the extent of the damage. Ill also get a few photos from around the flat to show you the damage to the walls. Every wall has nail pops (nails popping out of the drywall) and every seam between the sheets of drywall has cracked.

But the new place has been freshly renovated so were all good there.

Whos Andrew? And what happened there?

LOL Dom.. Sorry, my only B29 kit is buried somewhere in storage. lol

Oh if anyone is interested, I have a couple of kits up on eBay, one is a set. 2 kits, A 1/76 B57B, and a 1/360 TU-144.  And I still have that other Revell F18 Blue Angel up as well.  I gotta sell some of my kits fast.  Marissa's BDay is coming up..   So I am looking for the few ones I have doubles of, or can't do myself, in storage.

Yeh. I saw what was left of it when he posted an image of it on the 2011 Rhino Build thread.  So I figured he might like a new one.  I feel honored that his family chose to bury him with it.

Well, I am taking a couple of days off from the F18s.  I need a break.  My hands are cramping up because of all the cool damp weather we have been getting.I may have a small issue with the 20th. anniversary decals for the Revell.  Simply put, I measured and I'm not sure the things are going to fit on that kit, so I may have to do more painting than I planned, or try to somehow salvage the Hobby Boss kit.  It's going to take some serious kit bashing.  Oh well, I love a challenge. lol

Sort of, rents going up an extra $70 a week. Things are going to be tight for a while. But the majority of the stress has let up.

The one thing im concerned about, my partner hasnt seen the place. Shes excited purely on my word of what the place is like.

Im excited and dreading it at the same time.

Mike sure hope that works out for you and missus.

We had no idea as to the extent of the damage that had occurred.

At least your kits survived?

Berny told us about when Andrew went through, and

took his hobby room and all his kits, both new and

built with it. He showed us the remainders of his

2-sick-O build, and that's where Rich got the idea,

but correct me Rich, to replace that Phantom.

All the best in your new digs man.

Thanks guys. Housing is at a premium in CHCH at the moment, when the earthquake hit it effectively wiped out whole suburbs. Thousands of people left, thousands more are looking for a new home. So rent rises to reflect that. But were lucky, the place were moving into is going for pre-earthquake rates. In the current market it would be worth 400 plus a week. As it is were getting it 350 a week.

Rents over here are ridiculous.  But a $70 a week raise in rent is even more so.  These landlords think everyone makes 100K a year or more I think...   It's actually cheaper to buy a house now, but the banks won't finance the smaller mortgages as easily.  That's why we are still stuck at my Mother in laws..

Hey Guys,

it's year-end and on top of that

a client only in his early 60's is at the big door,

putting his affairs in order, so I've been truly

swamped.

I'll be back to normal, if you call it that,

in a few days,

Ken,

I'm not sure how the set you are using requires the cuts to be made, but I usually either use my Zona Razer Saw, or I use a low speed setting and a fine grinding bit on my Dremel.  Sometimes a combo of both.I found that doing it with the keyhole saw and drill holes makes an uneven cut for me.  Then again, most of my cuts are uneven these days.

Hi Everyone,

Here is tonight's work, slow but steady.  The instructions are not very clear on where to cut so I am cutting on the lean side which is going to take longer.  First I drilled holes to use to help guide my micro saw:

Next I started sawing.  This is all the farther I got.  After I get this side done and know how much and where to cut, the other side will be quicker:

 Ken

Wow, Ken, I can see where you would be hesitant to do this much cutting! Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

Not a whole lot done at the workbench but did get some research done with Russ today.  I don't know how many of you know but I have been putting together a list of all the aircraft the USAF used during the Vietnam War beginning at November 1, 1955 through April 30, 1975.  I have been working on this list for a couple of years now.  If anyone would like a copy, send me a PM with your email address and what format you would like (Microsoft Excel 2010, 2003, etc.).

I did get some work done today at the bench.  I started with the seamless intakes made by DMold:

Hi guys.  I'm still around once in awhile, but haven't been very active on the bench (or the forum).  My bench is also totally cleaned off, Ken, and I'm taking some time off after the TF-102.  ( In looking at the pics of your bench, I think you need more paint!!)  Indifferent  I see that there is a new 1/48 F-94 coming out, and that's one from my early military experience that I haven't built so that might be next.

Ken - looking forward to seeing your Phantom.

Russ - Great looking work on the BUFF.  Skillful effort on that wrinkled skin.

Greetings and good luck to all,

Nice set Ken.  I never saw that set before.  I wish I had known about it when I was building Berny's "Two-Sick-Oh" bird.   The ones I used weren't nearly as nice.

Thanks Rich.  The guy that makes them puts them out in limited quatities and they sell out fast.  They are always on back order and a little more expensive than the Rhino set.  I read a review somewhere that compared the two and the reviewer said the DMold set fit a lot better than the Rhino set.

Hi Ken,

Glad to hear from you again!

I am assuming you are speaking of the 1/48 Kitty Hawk F-94C?  I have read some great reviews on the kit.  I know I would like to see you build that after seeing what you did with that TF-102!

I prewashed these with the same vinegar and water solution as the kit plastic.  Here is a shot of the instructions (very lacking):

Here is a shot of the seamless intakes out of the package:

Per the instructions, I needed to "remove casting fence" that you can see in this next photo:

Here is a shot with the casting fences removed from both intakes:

Next I removed both fuselages from their sprues and sanded smooth the places where the runners were attached:

And that was my day!
