Well, I'm finally about to button up this baby. I still need to install the landing gear wheels and the tail gun turret. Still a lot of detail work to do on the outer fuselage once it's closed, including cleaning up the scribed panel lines, adding circular vents and adding the chin radar bulkheads and antenna. I plan to add the ECM antenna farm and other miscellaneous delicate protruberances later after I've installed the wings and stabilizers.

Cheers,

Russ

Berny was obviously a great guy. Wish I had had a chance to know him.

Russ

Yes, he was a very nice guy.  You would have liked him.  But hey, I think everyone on this build is a great guy too!  We are all doing a great justice to him on this build.  So everyone should take a bow.  This build has turned into exactly what I had hoped it would.  We have built friendships as well as models, and that is really cool!

Hi Everyone,

I am about done with clearing off my workbench!  I hope to have it done by tomorrow night.  It depends on when I get back home tomorrow.  I have to drive my Mom to a funeral that is over a 2 hour drive from my house.  It is for a great aunt that I didn't know very well.  So that is going to take up a good portion of the day tomorrow.

Hey Mike, the weather has definitely turned a lot cooler here!  I finally broke down and switched the HVAC over to heat.  It is supposed to get down to 33 degrees Fahrenheit tonight, 34 degrees tomorrow night, and 32 degrees Sunday night.

Good work, Ken!  I'm anxious to see your progress on your F4. I worked on just about every AF model of these birds including the weasel, and I've already ordered a kit for my megre stash (right now, it contains a partly-built F-111 and a new F-86 Sabre).

Sorry to hear about your aunt. When it rains, it seems it does pour  Sad.

As for the weather, those temps sound chilly but then you have the turning of the leaves to compensate. Here in Florida, the typical fall temperature is around 80 degrees and there are few trees that change color.

Cheers,

Russ

Berny was a guy much like yourself Russ.

Helpful, handy with tech and kits, history, and had great knowledge

from Air Force experience.

That BUFF is starting to look like a Renwal Nuclear Submarine

Thanks, Dom. You honor me with that comparison.

As for the similarity to a Renwal cutaway Big Smile, I had actually planned to model the whole crew cabin with one side removable but I just couldn't find the necessary photos or drawings.

I've upgraded those ornery canopyless F-4F's to F-100 glass....lol

They will look so cool with super-sonic GE acrylic.....

I'll prawley upgrade the intakes and exhaust too.....Super F-84F....Big Smile

Yeh, I have a 10% done 1/48 Monogram B17G I wish I had a remopvable fuselage half for.  I did some nice detail painting on it's insides.  But you will never see it once it's buttoned up.

Dom.  Scan the instructions so I have a reminder what those canopies look like and I will keep an eye out for them, or for a parts kit that has them.  Although that does sound like a nice kitbash lol.

Hi Everyone,

I am close to having my workbench cleared off.  When I finally finish, it is actually going to be more organized than it has ever been.  Which is why it is taking me a lot longer than I first planned.  It is going to make working at it a much more enjoyable experience.  A great way to start building that Phantom!  I am done working on it for tonight but I should finish tomorrow.

I came across some aerial refueling pictures that show I had the EWO hatch represented incorrectly as a scribed outline. In actuality, the EWO hatch had a cover similar to the entrance hatch (see the picture below).  I filled in the scribing and modelled the hatch and I will also add the guide marks above the cockpit ahead of the refueling probe, as shown in the second photo.

Cheers,

Russ

Hi Everyone,

My workbench is very nearly cleared off.  I ran into a very large stack of decals which I have wanted to sort and file for quite some time.  So I spent a majority of the day doing just that.  It did mean adding another day to getting the workbench cleared off but having the decals sorted was worth it!  Maybe tomorrow night I will have my workbench finished?  Smile

I was always of the opinion that a messy workbench is a happy workbench.  I think mine died of laughing from being so happy.....

We should do a "Workbench Wreck" build.  It could be fun.   Have each of thr members pull down the worst they have in semi complete kits, and try to save them.  The only Caveat being that the workbench needs to be kept at or near total chaos for the duration of the build. lmao
