Gamera

Dom was just on this weekend, so it hasn't been that long. You're right in that it seems like weeks since Jim has been around though.

I seem to remember now that Jim said he was calling his Apache finished and was moving on to another build. Don't know if that means he won't be back...

Russ

Hi Russ,

That was Mike that said that.  Jim's last post was on 9/21/2012 at 3:50 AM EDT commenting on the new badge that Rich made.  Were coming up on three weeks since that post.  I am getting worried.

That was me with the apache, 3 weeks is a long time. Hoping its just an Internet thing. Or possibly hes on holiday. Or like i said earlier, he got lost while trying to clean up his workbench. Did he mention anything about going away?

I know he was still having a tough time dealing with the passing of his Mom.  We were passing private messages back and forth but the last one I got from him was 9/21/2012 at 4:02 AM EDT.  Of course I was asleep when he sent it and I had company over Friday evening so I didn't respond until 7:43 AM EDT Saturday morning.  I never got a reply.  He lives near the west coast so he is on a different time zone.

Maybe hes just taking a bit of time out to grieve and get his head right.

When my pop died it took me a while. But i deal with things differently to alot of people. It hit my cousin the hardest, she still breaks down occasionally. He passed on late last year. We laugh and have our moments, but it doesnt take much to set her off. It could be his coping mechanism at this point has become a road trip or concentrating on the bench rather the interacting with people.

Ok, no one else is posting so you'll just have to suffer with another one of my updates Big Smile.

I'm just about to button up. I finished up the nav antenna compartment (chin radome), such as it is, with a sprinkling of equipment to simulate much more that would be in there; unfortunately, I don't have any good pictures of this compartment, probably because the equipment in those days was classified or sensitive. I'll wait to install the antenna until I put on the final fuselage details.

Cheers,

Russ

I added the upper port and starboard cooling vents but will have to wait on the lower 6 until after the fuselage is closed and I start on the ECM antennas.

Hi Everyone,

It is done!!  My workbench is cleared, organized, and cleaned!  I am finally all set and ready to start building.  It was a lot of work and I am glad it is done.  The clean and organized workspace will make starting on the Phantom that much more enjoyable.  Smile

Ken, you do realize that as soon as you start the Phantom, it's going to get messy again...  It's a sad fact of modeling.  No matter how clean the bench is, it instantly goes to mess when styrene packaging is opened...

Scuza me, gotta go and do some more on that darn Revell F/A-18 kit...  I just got through upscaling some real cool decals. :)

Gamera

Welcome back Dom and hope things calm down a little for ya.

Ken: I too think you should take some photos before you mess your bench up again!

No problem on the pictures!  I am more than glad to provide them after all that work!

Here is a shot of part of the wall that is behind me as I sit at my workbench:

Here is another shot looking further down the same wall:

Here is down to the end of the wall.  My computer is next to my workbench which makes it nice for when I need to look up any references.  Also notice above the computer is the air line I ran last winter from the air compressor in my garage:

In this next shot is the top of my workbench.  My workbench doubles as my paint booth.  The metal box you see on top is a bathroom vent that I mounted with a hose running to an outdoor outlet.  It also makes it nice for when I am using any toxic glues or solvents.

The vent also has lights in it.  I lined the inside of the booth with aluminum foil to help with the lighting.  In this shot you can also see my lighted magnifying glass which I use a lot!

 Another view:

Here is the view from the other side:

Here are the decals that I sorted and filed:

Here is my drawer with some of my hand tools, air brush, and assortment of other items that I want to keep handy:

Another drawer in my filing cabinet where I keep my larger quatities of different paint thinners and storage bags along with a vacuform machine:

Here is just one of my many shelves containing part of my stash:

Here is the bottom of one closet containing part of my stash:

Here is the upper part of the same closet:

I am so glad to have my mess cleaned up!  It feels good!
