Gothic 2 had a strange install style. It was designed specifically to run with the 95/98 file structure. I managed to get it to run on XP (After hours of jiggering, changing settings etc) but it was really unstable and wouldnt play the videos without crashing. Doesnt surprise me that it wont run on 7. Might have to run it in a virtual window or something.

They have dosbox. Im waiting for win95box. lol.

Dom: That's cool about sending your work to the FX company, too bad it fell though. But then again when your stuff is so awesome it's blowing up their editing computers Wink Yeah, I'd love to see more of your stuff if it's not too much trouble to find it.

I buy a kit at the local hobby shop every now and again but most of my buying is there is paint. Course paints not cheap anymore so I helping keep him in business.

Mike: Gothic III is ok, haven't played too much of it so far but so far not that impressed. I love Bethesda's Elder Scrolls games, played everyone since Arena back in '91 or so. Gothic III is kinda like them though not as good IMHO. One thing I really hate is it loads stuff all the friggin' time so the game runs really choppy including during combat. At least I think so, I need to check some more sites to figure out what's going on here.

I have Gothic II but haven't been able to get it to run. Seems it doesn't like Win7. Which I can understand in a way since it was written for Win95/98 but still I've got other games that old that still work so I dunno. I've read a bunch of work-arounds on the net but none have worked so far, I'm going to keep at it.

I hear you Ken:

I would like to give the local guys the business for sure.....but asking me to look up the part number?

I looked it up, I Part # $65US...lol....

-Dom

I am totally in full support of the locally owned business.  I just recently moved my prescriptions from a national chain to a new locally owned pharmacy for that very reason!

Ken

I'll call tomorrow, maybe someone will have the sense to sell me something. Otherwise, I'm back to Ebay.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the tip!  I am always looking for a way to save some money in this hobby!  Those #11 X-Acto blades go fast.  I also found them on Amazon.com for just under $20 and free shipping if your total order is over $25.  http://www.amazon.com/X-Acto-X611-Blades-Knives-Bulk/dp/B00006ICJV

Ken

Hey, cool! I didn't think to check online, but I bought these on impulse while at the store. Next hundred, I'll check this link. Thanks, Ken!

Russ

I always find that eBay is a good source for just about anything.  As a matter of fact, sometimes too good a source.  I got a dream Garage sale find the other day, a Stereo system just likie the one I had as a kid (Radio Shack Realistic Clarinette 98), and I need to find some speakers for it.  Ever go through 71 pages of 200 listings each....?  All I am tring to find is a pair of older wood cabinet 2 or 3 way speakers, medium to large size to hook up to it, but I have to sift through all this other junk modern speakers to find anything.  Same with some hobby stuff.  I have one saved search I run every week or so just for the word "Vintage" in the military aircraft section, and I have to go through page upon page of decals, cars, tanks and other stuff that shouldn't even be listed in that category.....  Oh well.  Back to the speaker hunt.

Cheaper X-Acto Blades

I was getting tired of spending $3-4 for 5 blades when I discovered a box of 100 for $28. That's about half price over time. I got mine at Ace Hardware, but you could probably find them at any hardware store.

Cheers,

Russ

Here' why LHS's are going out of business:

i wanted to get a  Airfix Vicker's Valient so i called three LHS's. The first call put me on an answering machine. The second call, the guy was part time and took down the information and my phone number. The third place, the guy asked me to go online and get the Airfix part number for him so he could look it up.

It will take at least an hour to drive to and from any of those shops, plus the waiting for the kit to show up, and the inevitable 'special item' pricing. I can get one on Ebay.

I don't know how these guys pay the rent.Hmm

Hi Dom,

Well, here in my town, the only local hobby shop that might carry anything close to what I would look for only really carries radio control cars, planes and accessories.  I went there several times looking for model building supplies but they don't stock it and they had to order it.  So for me, ordering on line is the way to go and I am not hurting any local hobby shop since they do not carry anything that I need.

For those of you interested in the B-52D bomb clips, I added some links to videos which show the entire bomb clip loading process from ship to assembly to aircraft. They're in the Big Belly thread at:

Cliff;

don't get a lot of requests for art these days....lol

I'll post this until I can pull some more images out of the stack.

Magneto optical drives, obsolete hardware and software.....

data migration has been a nightmare, speaking of which:

She's in the Bone Yard.....waiting to escape.......Whistling

Indifferent Um, thanks Dom, I think you just gave me nightmares tonight!!! Wink

Mike: Ouch, hope you feel better soon. Sounds nasty.

Thanks guys.

Dom. That looks like one of the demons from Hellgate London.

I was thinking it looks like my enemy Irys:

I still haven't forgiven her for what she did to my left arm. Thankfully I've never had to fight the horrible weta yet.

First time I heard about the weta was Peter Jackson's (The Lord of The Rings movies, the best radiation zombie movie ever Dead Alive) special effects house is named WETA.

And Russ, nice work there. I've had an airbrush for so long it amazes me what you can accomplish with just an old fashioned spray bomb.

Ha yeah Weta Workshops. Tehy were working on a Halo movie for a while, then i think bungie pulled the plug.

Hellgate london bloodangel.

Weta workshops Warthog. (Not me in the photos)

Well, Blood Angel is okay. If I can find 'Rage', I'll post him. He's very P'O'd.

Nice 4X4, like Mad Max, next generation.

Yeah Cliff, sorry to hear about your left arm, she is coyote ugly alright. No problems man, it'll grow back.Whistling

i sent some of my work to an special effects outfit in California 20 years ago. Never made a dime. One of my pieces was featured in a rock video, but the band never broke out.

An effects guy in Toronto said that when he put the raw video of one of my pieces into his video editing computer, it destroyed the system.......he blamed it on the sculpture.....sure.Alien

Dang Mike, I need to get Hellgate installed and running again, I'd forgotten about all the cool monsters. Been messing around with Gothic III and just ordered Two Worlds. We'll see how it goes.

Cool Warthog, guy on the right looks sorta like Jackson himself!

Russ:

i am envious, I can't paint at home because my mother-in-law cannot deal with it, she is very frail, pushing 90.

That flat-bed chassis looks great.

i was going through a tractor trailer exam at the truck school, and my instructor was talking to me and giving me instructions. he was sipping a coffee and kept resting it on the end of the flat-bed between barks.

i went up and down the flat bed, inspecting, as he checked off his big list with his stoney grimmace. They had a few items rigged to be loose just to fool us.

i get everything right as i walk down inspecting the trailer. I walk up to that bastige, and he has this big smirk on his face. Before he can say anything, I tell him 'we're not going anywhere until that coffee cup is off the back of the trailer'......ruined his day.....lol......

Layering those colours like that is great. There are no solid colors in real life except for brannew stuff. You can use that misting technique to sneak in weathering too, local soil dust, especially around the wheel bays, i dunno, those leaf springs might have a tiny bit of rust or separation, especially around the bands. A smear of dark red sludge and wipe them off to separate the leaves, that'll will make them pop, if you like that look.

Anywhere the paint gets scratched, the rust starts, I wasn't there, so i have no idea how fast rust formed on exposed steel in Vietnam, it's a given up here in Canada. Grit is good, unless you guys cleaned all the rigs daily or so.

The paint looks great so far, I'm looking forward to the rest of that build Russ.

Thanks for the good words, Dom! Sorry about your mother-in-law. My wife has the same problem and that has pretty much kept me out of model building for the last 40 years. However, since I started using superglue instead of the styrene cement, she doesn't seem as bothered by the smell. The paints seem to be less toxic too so I'm able to get back into the hobby.

Man, you've had some real experiences - graphics artist and truck driver too? BTW, the model chassis is from an HO kit from Lonestar Models. It's beautiufully detailed - in fact, it's too detailed, especially with the undercarriage detail which will never be seen. Very tedious to build, and the instructions are a joke. Unfortunately, this is the only near-1/72 scale flat bed trailer I've been able to find. I ordered a 1/72 21/2-ton military truck which I'm going to have to convert to a tractor. I'm a little worried that the scales won't match. HO is 1/89 which is slightly smaller than 1/72. We'll see.
