Its off to a good start! Just curious, why highlighted panel lines?

Well if you have the May 2011 Issue  you will see there is a tomcat painted to be ''3-D'' and that was one of the things they did. It's really an experiment for me though Stick out tongue

Should I pre-shade my F-4's?

Only if you have an airbrush. All the tips about Sharpies and hand painted lines lead to trouble.

It can be very effective though.

Also try post shading with a lighter color.

If it will make you happy! You have to build the model as you see fit. Dont open that door of building your models of how others like it.

^ What pzl66 said. ^

I"m trying my current build (SBD) without pre-shading, because I have been trying pre-shading, and not really accomplishing anything with it.  Besides, the wife, who is an oil painter, keeps telling me post-shading makes more sense to her.  So, I'll be trying that, sooner or later ...

Back to what pzl66 said, paint it the way that makes sense to you, or, better, that makes the model look the way you want it to.  (anyway, that's my two coppers)

There is an old A-6 Intruder movie about the vietnam war? something intruder? Oooh i got it it's ''Flight of the Intruder''! it's a pretty fair film.

There's a worthy subject. For a long while you'll all recall that the Monogram Intruder was kind of the "Holy Grail", if you will pardon the expression, of this topic. It got hard to find, and cost a lot of money. Now of course Kinetic has it covered.

Pilot, I am officially in with the Monogram F-4 that you're doing. The wife is picking me one up om her say home from work...yeah...I have the best lady ever!

I've thrown the very same kit in the trash at least 3 times before. I'm hoping that I am more patient and have developed a few more modeling skills since the last time that kit drove me nuts. If I am happy with the result I will do OY 463, but that decal sheet also has Olds ride on it, or I may go with kit decals if it's horrible. Lol.

Try for Olds bird He's one helluva pilotCool Just go with the flow, I can tell you some tips and help n' all.

It's a really good looking bird to my eyes. I do wish that Revell would tackle this and the B-66 in 1/48.

The Douglas A-3 Skywarrior saw service in Vietnam as ... (a) Tanker/Electronic Warfare (a/c) ...

... and all that other stuff Stik said.

Stik - Nice pictures of the dear old Whale.  Built one OOB (no paint) when I was around 12.  Always have liked it.  We had three on the Kitty Hawk on Yankee, passing gas to the group, and providing EW capability - a true two-mission bird.  Two nights before I hopped the Greyhound outbound, I sat in the squadron armory, right under a spot between the second and third wires, just a couple of inches of steel away from salt air, watching on cctv as one of the Whales took the barrier with its wheels up, right above my head (yeah, it was loud, LOL!).  It was the only time I ever saw a plane take the barrier in real time, and the driver put it flat on the money, textbook style.  Broke its back, though.  It was still sitting on the hanger deck two days later when I left.  One of the guys from VAQ-133 told me they weren't sure whether they were going to bring it back, or dump it there in the gulf, and I don't know what they finally did with it.

Definitely a Vietnam Air Warbird ... Yes
