tamiya 1/48 mosquito $20+ shipping
hobby boss 1/48 F-105G. wings and fuselage cut from sprue. $40+ shipping.
Bad day here too :( It just gave it clear spots over the gloss coat and all the underwing detail... so the worst possible thing is to respray..
gunna go out and have a nice cigar then start on the skywarrior. F-5 needs paint and im going to hold off on it till tomorrow.
Yeah the paint on the bottom got spots all over it! (clear) I just need to find s fix for it, so not ruined but very very frustrated!
professordeath I think this is one of my most satisfying builds ever because I'm learning that I can actually deal with these issues. I think it's going to be a good looking plane when done. It's true that the old RoG kits can be polished up nicely. Doesn't change the fact that they are ancient and outdated. :P

I'll give you old... but never outdated I'll tell you an easy trick for the gap like that between the wing base front end and the fuselage ... strip syrene shims of the appropriate thickness attached to the front of the wing, sanded to match the contour, before the two major parts are joined and boom, all you have left is a minor seam rather than a gap needing whatever filler you prefer.
I did that here on the rear of my Hun's tail base
and on the leading edge of the wing on a Crusader that I built a few years ago...
I'd put a pic up, but Photobucket is being quite un co operative right now... I am wasting too much time on that site
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

This gb thread is growing by several pages a day!
I finally made an Amazon run - ordered Bury Us Upside Down, One Day in a Long War, and Navy F-4 Phantom Mig Killers 1965 to 1970 (I already have the 1971-72 volume of the same work). Just gonna do some parallel reading for the old gb here. I also ordered a dvd titled No Easy Days featuring about 90 minutes of flight deck mishaps and misadventures from WWII to the current conflicts in the middle east. There are some Vietnam bits, I believe, so that counts, too .
I pretty much just ruined my phantom with bug spray!!!!!!! ugh!!!! I hte bee's n hornet's n wasp's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the update...
Yeah but the Acedemy 1/48 F-4B is going to be a one peice fuselage! Can't wait!
Yep she sure does like to give us a hard time but it's worth it in the end.
thats one beautiful Hun.
I did some figures as 101 in Vietnam way back when.... And the Dragon LRRP set when it was new. But Masterbox has several new sets out or coming out that have my eye...
Hey BTW I've got a couple of books regarding Paratroop activity in Vietnam in the '50's.
101 was very involved in 1968. Ever model that?
bondoman My 'Nam stash is a closely held secret. Hint for a possible next build: VP-48 Very well done Hun, son. Funny thing that the AF still used the refueling probe. Your F-104 was the same way.

I wont say a word about it again... my clearance may have expired but I can still keep a secret
Thanks about my Hun. I think the markings really make this bird in NMF/Aluminum Lacquer. Yes, the Air Force used the probe and drogue refueling method thru much of the Century Series. And that method went back all t way to the F-84E Thunderjet in the Korean War!!! The Thud could actually 'swing both ways', having both a retractable probe and a boom recepticle...

and the "innie"
stikpusher Bondo, that is a nice little 'Nam stash there.
Bondo, that is a nice little 'Nam stash there.
Phantoms are coming along too.
Bondo tip: For you guys who worry about the various blade antennas on the mating halves of your a/c: cut them off beforehand and stick them in a baggie. Glue them back on at the last minute before she goes off to the paint shop.
It looks great!
Professor, your F-4 looks like it is coming along just fine. Nice to see how you overcome those speed bump seams.
Bondo, that is a nice little 'Nam stash there. I have those same Spad and Scooter kits and the Monogram issue of the Tweety Bird.... One day I will get me the F-100F...
Just a quick peek at my latest work on my Hun... Most of the decals put on tonite... I just have a few stencils and warning stripes left to do...
Looks great professor; the gap on the top wasn't as hard for me... this time though! I guess I got lucky Is my work terrible or normal or just coming along?
found some more nam birds in the stash. hmmm...may throw in the scooter also.
Thanks! I have gloss on her now
phantom's looking good.
Yep raised detail! She's a beuaty!
thanks! raised detail?
I cut the USAF emblem out of the stripes... Ready to paint! Done!

tcepilot - can you post some sprue shots of the scooter? been eye balling this kit.
