ANZAC GB Sept 2012 to Sept 2013
Posted by Scorpiomikey on Monday, September 3, 2012 5:18 PM

Welcome to the ANZAC GB.

This GB is all about Australia and New Zealand. People and Vehicles.

So heres the rules.

1. Subject must have a direct link to Australia or New Zealand. (Person born in one of the countries, vehicle built in one of the countries, or vehicle attached to ANZAC forces)

2. Build runs 12 months, starts 30 September 2012 local time (wherever you are) finishes 30 September 2013.

3. Only grab the badge once you have completed your first build. No build, no badge.

4. Have fun.

Ill get on to a badge shortly.

CallSignOWL has agreed to help me out on this one. Shell be handling the entries.

Crossovers are welcome. Scratchbuilding, AM or OOB. (Although being kiwi and australia AM decals are about your only option) Ill list some available kits and websites to check out. Ill add to the list as i go.

Badge is up.

The main place to go is Hannants. They stock a range of markings from Ventura publications who specialise in RNZAF markings. Fantastic decals.

Hi Mike,

Bingo ! Yes, with multiple entries.

I have an ICM 1/48 Spitfire  VII intended for 453 Sqn RAAF that is started. Hasn't got as far as having the fuselage joined yet.

Also a 1/48 Sopwith Pup, intended for AFC markings. It's started, the fuselage and lower wing are joined, no paint or upper wing yet.

I have over 100 kits all intended for Aussie subjects, so there will be a few more too, which I'll decide as I go along.

I'll change the marking options on some of my other GBs so that I can have crossovers too.

This is a big one for me, thanks for coming up with it.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Ok, clarification please Mikey... stuff built elsewhere, but in service of the ANZACs is a go? Your initial post is stuff built there, or person born there... Yet I see stuff like Skyhawks and Kittyhawks in ANZAC service... I have a P-40N to be done soon that would fit here nicely...

Ok, your defiant can be done in RAAF markings.

Typhoon can be done in 486 sqn markings (486 is a very famous NZ sqn)

I beleive there were some kiwi pilots with the RAF who flew the defiant.

Might be worth doing some research on the fortresses. not sure though.

There were a couple of kiwi pilots who flew P-47's in burma. and another who flew with...the 383rd? i think, dont quote me on that.

4th NZ Armoured brigade was equiped with Shermans and Stewarts in greece, crete, italy and nth africa. More info here en.wikipedia.org/.../4th_New_Zealand_Armoured_Brigade

I think thats about it.

EDIT: The RAAF fly F-18's and F/A-18F's

Stik. You are correct in your assumptions. I was trying to figure out how to include everything in one short sentence lol. Basically if it served with  aussie or NZ forces. Or was operated by a kiwi or an aussie its a goer. For example. A Kittyhawk or Corsair in RNZAF or RAAF markings is good. Or Cobber Kain's Hurricane in RAF Markings is good.

Oh and the RAAF flew P-39's

I am completely ignorant about both birds. But it sounds like you are quite familiar with both Mikey. Can you enlighten me a bit on them please? Who are they and what is their claim to fame?

Claim to fame? Theyre named birds. Kiwis didnt tend to name birds or use nose art. At least not as ostentatiously as the Americans. We had the RAF way of things drummed into us. Gloria from what i understand was used in a few media shoots, but didnt survive the war. Esma Lee, not sure if the aircraft survived, but the pilot certainly did. As far as i know hes still alive and kicking.

Sounds more like the USN/USMC. Names and art existed but were not overly common. So neither one of these P-40s was anything out of the ordinary aside from having a name and being photographed? No squadron leader or aces mount?

I really should be in on this ; Embarrassingly I only have one build in my display cabinets which has Aussie markings on her , so I really need to pull my socks up and show a bit of "Patriotism" and complete some more builds . Here's the sole UH-1D Huey ....Bushranger

Like Tony (taxtp) , I have a nice stash of Aussie aircraft kits and AM decals , so it's a little difficult trying to settle on something . Perhaps I'll start with three Army birds and follow on with three Navy aircraft .

First up is Italeri's 1/72 UH-1D/H Huey with some resin exhaust update set and a rebuild of a Italeri 1/72 Blackhawk

There's also High Planes 1/72 Pilatus PC-6 with all three aircraft finished in the tan , green and  black camouflage scheme .

Secondly , Italeri's UH-1B Huey , Hasegawa's SH-60B and Italeri's Wessex HAS-3 with Cobra Company's resin update set . All in 1/72 with markings for the Royal Australian Navy "RAN" .

I hope these are acceptable , Scorp and Owl .

John .

You could probably put me down for  1/72 High Planes Models Mirage IIIO. It's already promised for the French A/C GB.

Mike & Owl: I've got a few subjects that would fit but up to my eyeballs in stuff now. I'll see about maybe tossing something in sometime next year.
