ANZAC GB Sept 2012 to Sept 2013

Looking forward to it, not many of those kind of aircraft came out of the ANZAC collection.

Mikey & miss Owl, I'd really like in on this GB if it's cool with you. My entry is the excellent Wingnut Wings 1/32 Fe.2b late version. The markings I've chosen (see pic below) are for s/n 778. This particular aircraft was assembled at Point Cook CFS (Central Flying School) in Victoria after being received as a gift from Alfred M. Simpson of Parkside, S. Australia. Flown by Capt. F.H. McNamara VC and gunned by S.J. Hendy, it flew 8 patrols during April and May of 1918, searching for a German seaplane carrier rumored to be operating off the Victoria coast. All searches however were unsuccessful.

Plus, the kit itself is manufacturered in New Zealand.

Note theyre not all allied aircraft. Both airforces had japanese captured aircraft in their inventories (RNZAF actually flew a jake in theatre) Also a few german and italian aircraft.

Aircraft was surrendered to RNZAF ground crews.

Sweet, oh i sent those RNZAF corsair decals today. Should be there in the next couple weeks. Theyre for Tutai Wera, which was overall dark sea blue, but heavily worn and weathered.

And I thought the Aussies (and Kiwi's) didn't have that many interesting schemes but it looks like I was dead  wrong.

Rudratt: From what I've seen those Wingnut kits build up into really nice kits so I'll definitely be following to see how you go with yours. I don't think I could ever handle the rigging required for one of those.

2 RAAF F-18's with the 50th anniversary RNZAF Golden Scooter.

Well , that's a first for me Scorp ; I've never seen a 'Golden Scooter' before ...Awesome !

I counted about 25 kits in my stash which would be suitable for Aussie aircraft and a sole Italeri A-4 RNZAF Scooter . There's no way I could build them all in the required time frame of the GB but I did spy these RAAF Caribou decals in my stash and with several Hobbycraft 'bou' kits in the stash , hopfully I might get around to doing the Desert Red / Tan / Black camouflage scheme aircraft

There's a seller on ebay called prettyplanes and has hundres of really great military aircraft pic's available on high quality photo paper . I've bought quite a few different pic's from him including many Caribou photos . Here's one to match the decal sheet above

Thanks fellas! Glad to be on board. This is gonna be a heck of a GB. After reading the thread to this point, I'm blown away by the diversity of the aircraft associated with ANZAC, and am seriously looking forward to everyone's builds.

Blitz - this will be my 3rd WnW kit (the SE.5a and Pfalz D.IIIa being the other 2) and easily the most daunting one to date (about 340 parts and an 18" wingspan). The instruction manual is about 30 pages long, and 3 full pages are devoted entirely to the rigging! Yikes! Something tells me I should order more brass tubing - there's going to be a lot of turnbuckles on this bird!

Damn Mike. Have you got the kit yet? If you do post some pictures of the sprues, id love to see it.

Someone at my club built that Fe 2b and it was a damn impressive sight. Good luck with it. I can't believe that would be your third Wing Nuts Build. Sucker for punnishment if you ask me but if that's your thing.......

I always thought the Caribou was a kind of cool, if weird looking, bird.  I've never seen a model of it though.  You should have a great build with this one.  Definitely not an everyday build.

The caribou was an odd bird with some fantastic flight characteristics.

Blitz -  glutton for punishment pretty much sums it up, but as you said, they are quite impressive once built.

Mikey - yep, I have the kit sitting in my stash. It's been there for a few months and man am I eager to get started on it. Really wanted to do it as part of a GB, so thanks for starting this one. I'll post some sprue shots for ya.

I did build a 1/72 Hobbycraft Caribou a few ago

I was quite excited at the time as I had just bought my first airbrush and the US Army Caribou was one of my first builds painted by airbrush . It was built straight OOB .

Early last year I started a second Caribou build for Air America but the build has stalled

I cut open the rear ramp and added a cabin floor and started making some rear seating ; The cockpit isn't very accurate and I started looking for images of the cockpit to improve my build

That's where the build has stalled but this will be a good opportunity to re-start the Caribou along side the RAAF 'Bou' .

So I'll start searching again for some good cockpit images for both builds

This really is gonna be an awesome GB!  I can't get over the diversity amongst all the entries.

....and the timetable is perfect. I should be buttoning up my Tamiya IL-2 by the end of the month.

Sure will be. Im hoping we get a few vehicles and ships in this too. ANZACS are well known for their desert ops.  

OK fellas (and lady ), as promised, here's a shot of the sprues for the Fe.2b. With the exception of their Gotha bomber, this has to be their most ambitious effort to date, and a popular subject in it's own right. I've heard that their early Fe.2b is already sold out.

Theres a certain phrase used when confronted with something like this. Im not allowed to say it on here.

I didn't notice the build only comprised of aircraft so far, but it is a similar trend to my IPMS club where planes are dominant by a vast majority with armour being a distant third behind cars. Hopefully some armour will come along.

I would usually expect to see that many sprues on a Dragon armour kit. Makes me shudder at the thought of Wingnuts expanding into armour...

Helo: That's a very nice looking start to your Caribou. I must admit I've never really taken much notice of them but that black nose really does give the plane a very Snoopy like profile.

One of my reference magazines has this picture of an Australian Army Blackhawk preparing to lift a vehicle and artillery piece .

I'm not sure what would be availble in 1/72 scale to match the vehicle and field howitzer , anyone able to provide additional info .

I did find these two kits in the stash

The M113 is marked as an Australian version and I have several Airfix Centurion Tank kits in the stash which would go nicely with the M113 from the Vietnam War era

Last year I back-dated and kit bashed one of those Airfix Centurions for the Korean War GB

Perhaps someone might be able to compile a list of Armour / vehicles / Artillary used by the ANZAC's
