Indeed you must build another Allen. Resistance is futile, (see Clemens).

Did somebody say my name? Oh yeah, resistance. Just don't try it, it's hopeless anyway. I tried to resist the urge to not build anymore 190s, but the more i thought about not doing so, the more I wanted to build more of them... Hey, at least I know that I'm mad! That's one step in the right direction. I'm no hopeless case yet, am I? Please tell me there is still hope for my sanity... Well, I could try to build all those 190s at my bench. That might help...

Ok, time to catch up (or try to do so at least)!

Nathan: She's looking fantastic! I just love everything about her! The amount of detail is stunning and the camo and weathering look great as well

Joe: I still find it hard to believe that your 190 is actually in 1/72nd scale! That camo looks superb mate! You did a great job on that Spit as well!

Matt: Very nice work on that Ta! I really like the green/gray camo scheme!

I know the feeling, i keep watching in here and seeing all the great work, fun times and begin to feel the itch grow....  Only thing that is keeping me from jumping back in is the 1/32 Me-262 sitting open in front of me.  Cockpit halfway done and loving it!!!

To all who commented on my 152C - thanks for the kind words!!!

SchattenSpartan - building all those will only make the insanity grow worse!!!!

Clemens, you may or may not be crazy, but in any case you are in wonderful company here, mate.

Joe (Rix), Holy Cow, I had to go back to page 1 to confirm our mad friend Clemens hadn't indeed lost it. 1/72nd, I had no idea (or more likely knew and forgot). Outstanding! Even above and beyond what I said before.

Everyone, your resident rookie/newbie has gone active again. I post this just as proof of start today. I was getting lonely working on my MiG by myself, plus this being my first Eduard kit I'd best get moving or I'll not finish by summer!

I can already see this kit will be a challenge for me. It took me a while to figure out the placement of arrowed part. (no worries about it flaring out at the top, is just sitting there at the moment).

PS, odd, I clicked on the image to see how big photobucket was displaying it, when came back it was out of the order I posted it. Hmmm.

Chanter... any time ... There are several good methods for fading and dulling a finish, but this one just works for me, Just one other thing, and not trying to overwhelm you, but again, depending on what "look" your going for, You could also substitute the grey for a few drops of lets say Testors flat dull cote and get a good faded finish. You just have to have an idea of what you want as an end result.

Alot of times depending on the paint being used just straight isopropol rubbing alcohol right out of the bottle will give great results. You just have to try different techniques for awhile to see what results you get.

Good luck and keep up the good work!  By the way, I found the picture of your bird in an older book I have, Focke-Wulf 190 Aces of the Russian Front. Very cool you found the actual craft in a picture like that.

Take care...

OK friends... This weekend I started another Focke... This will be a Revell/Monogram Fw190-G 2/3 pro modeler kit (kept looking for the Dragon sticker on the bag) I picked this one up at an estate sale for a dollar a few years back, The box was pretty well had so I put the works in a gallon size plastic freezer bag and put it in stash until now.

Chanter got me thinking about another winter scheme and I finally settled on Ober Leutnant Herbert Bauer, 1Stab/SG2 "Red 7" The time period will be the winter of 1944/45, when the Gruppe was stationed at Furstenwalde, Hungary. I ran across a picture not of this craft but of another in the gruppe and they had a pretty wild almost Zebra looking snow camo pattern.I have no info on air/mission victories or whether Oberleutntant Bauer or his craft survived the war. This will be a ground support/ fast fighter bomber configuration. Thanks guys, Pictures to follow soon.

Greg - Alright! Looks like a decent start. You certainly have more than enough guidance on this GB to be able to bring that Eduard beast home flawlessly.

Doug - Hoo Doggie, I'm definitely looking forward to your winter camo 190. That "zebra" pattern, Red 9, you refer to is an awesome looking scheme indeed. I have a how to book, Focke Wulf FW 190 A/F, Assembly- Transformation-Painting-Weathering, in which a gentleman walks you through his Red 9 build and it is really awesome. Also, I have the decal sheet with Red 9 and Red 2 on it saved in my ebay cart that I have been sorely tempted to buy.

I applied Doug's thinned gray formula today and I will have some pics and details here right directly. It went quite well.

Doug: Man I can't wait to see this one. This makes 5 out of you if I remember correctly! You are MORE than welcome here! Let er rip buddy!!!

Joe Rix:I can't wait to see how your pics turn out. I know what this effect does on a blue finish and now I get to see this in action on yours too!

Alrighty, I've got some pics for you. Although they're not real good you can kind of see the effect. Once again, I was simply trying to soften the overall camo not go for an extremely faded look. I used a very thinTamiya light gray XF-66. I broke out my Badger Renegade with e fine needle and set the pressure at about 8 psi. I then traced each of the decals. I then applied an overall light misting. Also, while I had the gray loaded, I  started the exhaust effect by by shooting some of the gray mix on the exhaust plates.

It's just a bit subtle but, achieved a desirable effect.I did not want mess up the model by over doing it.

Joe... She come out great. it softened the lines and took the gloss out of the decals as intended. Sometimes "subtle: is fine, and thats the beauty of that mixture, you  can do light or heavy just by adjusting the paint thinner mix, and or the number of coats! Very nice.

Joe, wish I could be there to see the effect in person. I think I can see the effect from the pics, and it looks great! Thanks for sharing the needle/pressure tips, i'd wondered about that.

And thanks for the encouragement on my start, gents. :)

Clemens in one of his "rational" moments... (grin) Sorry my friend, I keep thinking of you doing 9 builds at once and wonder how you keep your sanity! Ha...My feeble capacity might could possibly manage 2, but with great strife and angst! LOL...

OK friends... moving right along and hoping that Photo Bucket keeps in the order I down load in.... Pictures!!!

This is the scheme I want to attempt...The lower gear doors will be removed to avoid ice dirt and sanow build up. For some reason as usual Photo-Blunder wont allow the actual picture to be posted.

And this is what was left of the box... Believe it or not, decals were fine, but I wont be using them.

Not sure why the shine all over (speckles) likely from the oil gloss wash, I really do need a new camera, and maybe Mrs Clause will be nice this year... Nahhh, probably not.

The spinner looked a little rough in the picture, and I tried to duplicate by not pressing too hard on mask when applying paint. I believe the red inentifies a 1Stab. aircraft.

Thats all for now... Take care

Doug

Sweet start Doug! I want me a 190G series now. Kind of obscure theater the schlategruppe operations, and different markings too for the 190As.

So here I sit eyeing the various 190 kits out there, trying to decide what I'd like to build next, when I haven't even finished my current one.  PLUS - I just added a P-38, 2 109s, Typhoon and Skyraider to my collection.  So, when exactly does the transformation occur? - used to be Buy a kit, build a kit.  Now it's Buy 10 kits, look at them and buy something else to maybe build.

Allen,

Sounds about right.  Don't worry it happens to all of us, in 20 years you'll have 300-400 kits in the garage,  and 9 started on the work bench and wanting to get the next newest one out there and start on it right away, Oh wait that's me!Surprise  I have about 9 kits on the hold shelf at my LHS,  three spacecraft a spitfire a submarine with another one on the way and I can't remember what else.  Help! Help!

John

This is good! I found myself in the same predicament. For a while my stash was considerably bigger than what it is now. I ended up weeding through them at one point like a gardener weeding out weeds and being totally honest with myself whether I was going to actually build some of the stuff in my stash or not. For me to acquire a kit nowadays I have to approach the purchase with the same self honesty I used on the weed-out task.  It has to be a really good kit too.

Hey Nathan,

It is Airfix's 1/72 Mk IB.

I was in a hobby shop while visiting my folks one weekend and had given myself a set amount to spend.  By the time I'd picked up everything I originally went in for (no models were on the shopping list that trip) I had a few bucks left over, so it went into the pile. Whistling

Cool. That new Airfix kit sounds like a good one. I love the Typhoon and have the Hasegawa 48 in the stash with every AM possible.

Looking good there, Doug. I'm baffled how you started with the red spinner and ended up with a white spiral with a red stripe in the middle though. Two separate masks perhaps? Whatever the answer, I say Yikes! Looks great, though, however you did it!

Allen, yep. Wink As I've mentioned before, I got a 190 just to join this group, thinking it would be the first and last I would likely build. Started my second and one more on my shelf.

I'd blame you guys when the boss questions some day why 3? (Hasn't noticed yet), but it wouldn't work. Whistling

I'm happy. Just pulled off a LIGHT dullcoat on my cockpit. Y'all were right, slow down and take time to let the first coat dry, see what it looks like! Might be hope for me afterall?
