There in one 109 in I think the BoB hanger, hanger 4. Its White 4 of Horst Perez, flying with JG 26. It came down in Sussex in Sept 1940. Theres a photo of it being guarded by a British soldier and this scene is replicated at the museum. The other 109 you mention is probably the Buchon HA 1112. these are the Spanish 109's, with hispanio engines and were used during the movie the Battle of Britain, much of which was shoot at Duxford. The He 111 in the restoration hanger was also in the movie.

The B-17 outside I am guessing is the Sally B, the only airworthy B-17 in Europe. She is permantly based at Duxford. She sometimes has a different aircraft's nose art on one side and Sally B on the other. last time I was there, she had the Mempis Belle's nose art on the right. The one in the hanger is the one that was being restored, it was completely stripped of paint and taken apart. I have a nice pic of a partle  B-17 in pure NMF.

You should pop in for a brew, I'm only 45mins away.

Joe: Unfortunately they really don't have a 262 at Duxford, mate... ...BUT I got something special for you! I'm sure you'll like it... Wink

Bish: I actually didn't see any German aircraft today except for a lonely Bf 109 fitted with what to appears a Rolls Royce engine (it's not "hanging" either so the nose is really wierdly shaped) I only looked at 3 of the hangars though, so there might be more. I think you have to clarify Re the B-17, cause they got 2 of those beauties. One is inside the USAAF hangar and the other one is standing near it on the airstrip...

Joe, honestly  I'm not sure I'm gonna make mottling work using Vallejo. I hate this cuz I spent a fortune on Vallejo colors. That said, as said before, I still think I don't have the thinning figured out.

And yes, I've spent hours upon hours practicing. Just can't achieve any consistency from one session to the next. All that said, I'm sure it is my lack of airbrushing skills. Making some progress, will post something soon as I can.

Clemens, we'll be glad to have you back.

Joe, unless they have updated since I was there a couple of years back, I think you might be out of luck. I was actually disappointed at the range of German aircraft there. There was a Storch, Ju 52, Me 109E and a Spanish He 111 under restoration, and I think that was it.

SS, I wouldn't mind some pics of the B-17 in the USAF hanger if its back in there. It was under restoration and stripped bare the last time I saw it.

Hey guys, I just wanted you to know I'm still here with ya all! I'm gonna be in England untill Friday night but I'll be back at the bench on Saturday and finally get some interior painting done on the gear/gun bays and engines.

I arrived at Duxford today (coming from Bovington) and first thing I saw after I got off the train was a quite low Spitfire flyby. Now thats what I call a nice welcome! Big Smile If you guys need pictures of a particular aircraft that's on display there, just yell at me and I'll do my best to get em for you.

Hey bubba! I'm tellin ya, grab a spare kit or piece of plastic or something and practice , practice , practice. I did that and it took me a good hours worth of trying but I got it down. Remember: Thinned paint, high pressure and BARELY crack the needle. Once you see some paint (almost any at all) start moving the airbrush to prevent puddling or dotting. You'll get it..........I promise! Wink

At my end, been fiddling with the mottling since my last post. I'd post a pic, but at the end of the day it looks about like it did in the last post!!! Yikes.

Hanging head in shame too -- between work and family crisis (illness) I've not had a chance to touch anything lately, even if the AB was all fixed up and ready to go...

Well, well, well, just color me fortuitous. No sooner do I mention the travails of trying to get an AD Corsair book then some bloke in the UK puts one up on ebay for auction starting at 0.99 pounds/12.00 pounds shipping. Now, I have a 9 day wait to see if my bid holds up.

Same story here. I'm still looking for Volume 1-3 of Kagero's P-47 books. 1 and 2 are impossible to find and 3 always costs at least 3 times as much as the original retail price was....

Man I hear that. Last time I checked that 109 E series AD book was "up there" too. I did manage to download the 110 book for free though and have it all printed and in a nice binder!Stick out tongue

Bish
The funny thing is that certain ones go for silly prices while other go at reasonable ones. Its as though they produced more of some books than others. And of course the ones I am missing are the ones that go for high prices.

Oh Man, can I relate to that. I can find the Aero Detail books for the P-38, P-51, Zero, FW190 D-9 etc.. for about $30.00 no prob. But, do you think I can find the one for the Corsair for under $95.00. Not even. Heck, It's difficult to find one in the first place.

There certainly is. Occasionally, some will come up on e-bay and they do always go for silly prices. I have seen the Nightfighter books priced at over $1,000. What really makes me mad is I would bet a lot of these are bought by collectors who will put them into a plastic sleeve and never open them.

Thanks Bish and Greg. Those are indeed high praise coming fron you all. You see, since I started building again back in 2009 I have only completed 5 models. 4 aircraft (2 RAF, 1 IJN and 1 Luftwaffe) and a U.S. sub. There are 3 that I have started but have yet to finish. More surprising to me is that I have yet to build anything in my favorite subject: USN aircraft. Thus, the Hellcat. Like I've said before I just don't get a lot of bench time so it takes me on average 1 year to complete a build. But, I really wanted to hone my skills before I jumped into the aircraft I really have a passion for.

I completely agree Bish. I've been rather curious why the hesitance to put these magnificent books back into print. Although the demand may not be overwhelming there is a demand nonetheless.

Serioulsy,Joe, that 190 was your first Luftwaffe build. I would not have guessed it.

Those books certainly do go for damn silly prices. I was able to get hold of Vol 2 of Luftwaffe camo and markings, but getting hold of Vol 1 and the cockpit colours books. Same goes for a lot of the Classic publications range of Luftwaffe colours. I just don't understand why they don't re print them.
