Things are really coming together now on both kits. Very few seams here. Just some dabs of Mr. surfacer.

This Hasegawa boxing comes with photo etch to represent the cockpit side armor. Its very thin and looks great. It also gives you the option of plastic pieces as well.

Doug, thanks for that. I had thought about tissue, but wasn't sure if the texture might not look right in 72nd. I will have to do some testers before my next build.

Hey Bish... I have taken kleenex type tissue, folded it up tight and in the shape of the seat cushion, and wet it down with a thinned down mixture of the color of the cushion you want to make and let it dry. Makes a nice looking cushion and its textured too. also, if you want some realistic looking tears, place your dampened tissue over the seat or back area, place a small gob of filler putty on it and gently tear the damp tissue around it. Makes it look like the cushion foam is pushing up through a tear in the cover. Takes a bit of trial and error but looks great when done right.

hey guys,

In my eduard A-5, the seat does not have any custion. Where all A5's produced that way? I have been getting mixed photos on them. Any help would be nice as I can either purchase an AM seat or use some milliput to scratch one.

Also, and more importantly, does anyone have any A5's in winter camo?

Any help would be really great!    THANKS!!!

wjt - Might I suggest taking a look at what Ultacast has to offer in the way of a seat. I have used one on my 1/48 Spitfire and have several others for future builds. They are simply excellent in their detail and molding.

As far as the True Details resin cockpit for mine goes it has a cushion molded on it. Speaking of, I just finished releasing all the parts for it from the molding blocks. Took a fair amount of work with the micro saw and sanding sticks. But, definitely worth the work.

Nathan - Thanks for the images.

wjt, which option are you going for with the cushion. If your going to make your own, i would love to see how you do it. I think a lot of kits are missing items like this, even resin seats can leave them out. My Ju 87 didn't have the back cushion for the pilot.

I should really stop being lazy and go through my books rather than just useing google all the time. I have that book as well Nathan and it would have soon told me not all chutes were worn on the butt and that this would need a seat cushion. Thanks for the images. I need to keep this in mind when i do mine as i think the pilot figure i am useing has the other type of chute.

Several of my reference books show 190 pilots with back chutes on.  I think as the war progressed the back chute became more the norm instead of the clumsy seat chute.

Bish is right. I could be both. Seems though that most of the pics I found have the pilot wearing a chute on his back, so a seat cushion would be fairly common.

I always thought pilots sat on there parachutes, but apparently this wasn't always the case. Apparently, the Fw 190's seat was designed to allow the pilot to wear either a back or bottom chute, sothis would determine if he had a cushion or not.

I normally paint cushions with Tamiya Flat brown, you could also use black.

The Pilot's parachute served as a seat cushion correct?

In the later years it appears that some aircraft did without some of the comfort items but mostly they did have cushions. It's too late for me on mine otherwise I would have installed a cushion of some sort.  I can't imagine sitting in a bird for an extended period of time without a cushion though. Whew! That would surely hurt!!! I used to fly in a Huey for up to 4 hours and the seats even though they had some cushioning would get to the ol "fourth point of contact" after about 2 hours!!

First, you need to make sure to use the "use rich formatting" option when replying. Otherwise you're SOL.

Next...I wrote up a blog post on this a while back. Forum software has changed since and the insert image button is now the one that looks vaguely like a polaroid picture, not the filmstrip (that's for video), but the rest of it still fits.

Hey guys. Just waiting on my quick boost control stick/ column to arrive in the mail. I just recieved my Model Master MG131 gun barrels yesterday and they are a beaut! Speaking of which I am moving on to the firewall/ ammo box area. After some intensive clean up of all of the parts assosiated with the ammo box/ firewall area I applied the usual RLM 02 and am waiting on that all to cure out. No more will I ever complain about Trumpeter or any other of our premier model kit manufuacturers and their flash/ ejector pin marks!!!! It's just the way it is.

ryoung apparently, people are having a problem posting images from flickr. Not sure what the issue is. If you can't get the image to show, just post the direct link in a normal post. Not sure if its a flickr issue or this site.

Right Doug but I meant ailerons on each wing. Left stick is left aileron up and right down, and vice versa. forward stick is elevators (they move together) down, (which you got correct)and aft stick is elevators up.

Hey Joe... Like I've said, I've been a bit under the weather and have taken several days off after the first and had nothing better to do... Wait, There IS nothing better to do...Man, see what I mean? lol Just got my new rivet tool in today and anxious to try it out!

Nathan... Sorry bud, I thought pushing a stick forward would drop both and moving side to side would cause  up / down motion. Guess I need to read up a bit more. ha.. Thanks for the tip.

Doug looks like quite the challenging kit. Just a hint but don't drop both ailerons. One side goes up and the other down accordingly.

OK... A little bit more...

This so far is and has been one of the POOREST Efing fits of any model that I have ever built, BAR NONE!!! Keeping in mind however that the kit is 25 yrs old and had previously been started. That being said... Like the old Chief from Josey Wales, and I quote..."I endeavor to persevere" unquote. LOL...Not going to let it whip me!
