Ok all. My progress has been really slow since my debut on the 1st. I have applied alot of the photo etch to the interior. I just finished up with the seat belts this morning. Built and installed the map case/ pocket at the base of the R/H console and installed the control handles and throttle lever at the L/H console as well as install the rear compartment photo etch cover.  I'm currently painting the control stick and working on the instrument panel area. Anyhow here is a pic of the current progress.

Wrinkledm... Beautiful job! Plenty of time for you to do another... Guys... Thanks, I was wondering if anyone would see the maps and papers in the map pocket. (ha) Most rivets were already in place, I added some where they were missing. Thats why i like the older kits (this one is 25yrs old I believe) purchased at a yard sale, and partielly built, I had to dismantle to begin rebuilding correctly. They for the most part are very well detailed. Like Joe R had said, The resin took a lot of "tweeking" being it wasnt designed for this kit, but it can be made to fit with a bit of patience (which I am learning) and some skill. To those not experianced with rtesin, dont fear it...just go slowly. Oh, and keep a supply of super glue, super gel and quick set epoxy.  Thanks again, much more to come!

Done!

Well,  Ok  Big Smile I started building about a year ago well outside the bounds of group build but I thought I'd share my 190 that reached a completed status on 2 January.  Please enjoy your group build.

Rigid -  Wow indeed. Absolutely excellent job on the detailing.

Got a bit of a start on mine this morning by test fitting the True Details resin cockpit in the fuselage to ensure it work. Some sanding will be required on the bottom of the tub in order to fit the wings on but other than that it looks to fit fine. A good bit of work though is going to have to go into removing the IP, seat, etc.. from the mold block and sanding them down. Not real impressed with True Details attachment of parts to the block especially after having used Ultra Cast parts. But, I sure like the detail.

Nice shot of the A-5 Mike. The same is for the Hasegawa canopys I'm working on. I replaced one with an Eduard part, and on the A-4 I'm doing I'll just display the canopy open a crack, so the over hang is less noticable. One can never have enough Eduard kits for spare parts right?

Hi All,

Looks like things are coming along great! I just made a post about how to improve the Tamiya ETC 501 rack for my long buried Tamiya Fw 190 A8/R2 project. If you have any interest in seeing what I did, take a look here. As mentioned, I’m not super happy with the result, and may take another crack at it. After all, the only cost is time and effort…

It looks like there are a lot of Tamiya & Eduard kits being built; I can’t remember if anyone is doing both at the same time, but if you are here’s a neat tip. I’m not the first to notice this, one of the accuracy problems with the Tamiya kit is the canopy, if displayed open is that the front edge is too wide.

The real aircraft starts wide at the engine and tapers continuously to the tail, so that means an open canopy will be narrower then one that is closed - thus the hinged section on the top of the canopy. Here’s the A–5 I saw recently:

Flying Heritage Collection 2012-12-16 at 15-48-17 HDR

If this matters to you, it’s very easy to swap in the canopy from the Eduard kit. The Tamiya kit parts will fit pretty nicely, with only a small bit of filing in the armored head rest. The best part is that Eduard gives you two canopies in their kits; “flat” and “blown” versions. So if you’re doing both at the same time, or have one of the Eduard kits in your stash, you’re golden. Next time I get a chance, I’ll post some pics of the Tamiya & Eduard parts together.

Keep up the good work!

Best regards,

Mike

Hey Doogs. I know what you mean about your 190 being dwarfed by the P-47 in 1/32 scale. After building that 1/24 scale Bf109 this Fw 190 in 1/48 scale is a tough challenge. I spend alot of time with the magnifying visor on(against my better judgement!). I used to build nothing but 48th scale offerings before my eyes started going kaput after I turned 40. All of the kits I have except for that 109 are in 48th scale because I bought almost all of them pre-eyes going to crap age!

Yeah, yeah yeah...Now quit yer bellyachin', put your big boy glasses on and start slapping some glue on that model.Wink Sorry Joe, just couldn't resist the poke at ya.

got some work done on both engines. Nothing fancy here, just glue/paint/wash...as you can't see jack anyway inside the 190 cowl!

I also carved out the crappy moulded on guns on the kit cowl,

In favor of these beauties:

Joe - Judging from your starting efforts it appears we are in for an exceptional build from you.

Nathan - Very nicely done office indeed.

ajcmac - Love the Trop scheme. I'm still considering one for my 190. Like the rivet work. Sure glad to see you have the patience for that task.

Rigidrider - That there is some excellent work on your engine. Your detailing is really well done.

Here be some prelim pics before I get to cutting sprue. Not much there for a 1/72 job but still fairly weel detailed OOB. The little extras oughta dess her up nicely though.

Here be a sampling of the reference material I have at my disposal:

And again a revisit to my decal options. I am leaning to do #2 down but, I am hugely tempted by one of the Trop schemes.

The construction will only OOB with the addition of safety belts of Eduard.

Since I have several German models and almost all color scheme with RLM 74, 75 and 76, I opted for this scheme.

And for the first time, will simulate the rivets. For now only those who will not be affected when sanding brands of glue.

When I have the fuselage and wings glued complete what is missing.

Regards

Thanks Buckeye and Joe. My build pace will for sure slow down now as I assemble the multi-piece cowlings (thanks HasegawaBang Head) and fit the wings to the fuselage. 190 pits build up fast anyway due to simple side walls and instrument panels.

Holy crap! That looks great Nathan! I'm still working on my cockpit and am about halfway through. I'm quite certain I'm going to use most of the year to get this one done even though this thing is practically putting itself together as compared to my last build!

Got the cockpits done! Flat coat dried and them came some chipping with a silver pencil and some burnt umber chips applied with a small brush. After that I took some Pastels and ground em up, brushed them on then doused them with mineral spirits.

All dried and finished:
