All you guys out there building an F-8 check this camoflage pattern out. I swear if I didn't already have this Royal Class kit I would be building a 1/48 F-8 and would use this scheme. I would FIND a way to get this done. Aint this the coolest??

There are a few different styles of the early canopy type, see squadron 190 walk around. However, these differences aren't really noticeable and I've only ever seen the early type  or blown type in any kit or aftermarket item. Therefore, the "early A" canopy would be appropriate.

wjt619...

Get on Ebay and type your scale, Fw190 detail, (1/48 Fw190 detail) or whatever, and click search button. You will be surprized what may pop up. Loads of decals, resin and PE kits...you name it.

Nathan - Indeed they do. There is a "Blown" canopy which I already have, and they offer an "Early A" canopy. I am unsure if an early A canopy would be suitable being as the F-8 is a converted A-8. I am by no stretch of the imagination any kind of 190 expert, Just going off what I've picked up in my reference books.

Joe, you sure Squadron doesn't make a replacement canopy? Any other kit out there you can rob from? Sorry, I'm not familiar with 1/72 scale stuff. I'm curious to find out how good those Authentic decals are. I got a sheet for some La-5fs that I won't be using for a while yet.

Hi Ho Compadres, Here's a quick glimpse at what I'm gettin' into. Again the kit is 1/72. Just got the decals in the mail and noticed quickly a bit of an issue. Only certain options feature the "Blown " canopy which is what is supplied in the kit. This rules out the MTO version I was hoping to build unless I order up a vacuform standard canopy. There is one available on the  Falcon canopt set Luftwaffe #1 but that comes in set that includes numerous other aircraft canopies as sells for $26.00 at Squadron. Thus I'll be going with one of the "blown" versions unless I find another option. Regardless this is an awesome selection of F-8 schemes.

I know CMK makes a resin engine for the Tamiya A-8, could be adapted to the Eduard A-5, but i'm guessing the gunbay for the A-5 would be a bit different. How about Eduard's Brassin line? Aires also has a resin gunbay and engine for the eduard A-8, but again guns and gun bay would be a bit different.

hey guys,

As I posted before, my GB is an Eduard FW-190A-5. Seeing we have a year to build, I'm going to super detail her! I am having trouble finding some AF resin parts. Would like to add an engine and gun bays.

Any help as to find these aftermarket parts?

Thanks,

William

Whoaa! Bustin out the Royal class kit huh? Why The Big Ed set with all the goodies already in the box? Got a scheme picked out yet?

Yep. I bought this thing from Squadron about 6 years ago and was going to build it then but was at a bad point in life and it didn't happen. Well now things in life are ALOT better and I am more than ready to do it now. The kit is a real beauty! About the only thing that it did not have was resin wheels(which I already have purchased).I do have a scheme already picked out. I'm going to build Yellow 8 of 7. Staffel/ JG4 flown by Friedrich-Karl Frank. I've got to hone in my airbrushing skills a little bit more than my build in the 109 GB. The 109 was my first attempt at a mottle camo pattern. I'm gonna have to get alot softer with the edges of the mottle on this one to make it look right. It'll happen.

I'm just about finished with the 109 (about another month to go) and am looking forward to a small break in place to practice the mottling technique. I purchased the Aero Detail Fw190 A/F book and it's got alot of great information and reference as all Aero Detail books do but am looking for additional references. I would like to find a restoration CD similar to Buffies Best stuff. Oh well. I still have plenty of time to round that stuff up.

They include a piece of the A-8 that was shot down in Kovarska on Sept 11, 1944. The plane became a lawn dart and went nose first into the ground. All that was left was pieces of the bird. Thats whats in the plastic bag in the middle picture above.

Well, heres the "Dora" 9 that I'm going to start with... 5Gp/Jg26 White 3. The brief write up I found when trying to decide who to do, along with that hideous celery green looking fuselage and tail kinda got my interest. They say due to the constant bombings and increasing lack of proper record keeping that little was known of this aircraft and its pilot. It was noted that he survived the war, being shortly after the surrender, he was observed setting her down in a field, powering down, getting out, and just walking away. I am looking at an A-6 to do also, still researching that one.

I am deffinatly looking forward to this, i don't have a completed 190 yet, so its about time i changed that. I would be an early starter, i have 4 other builds to do, including the current one, before i get to this. But i will be watching in the mean time.

Thats a nice set. I am going for one of the MTO schemes as well, i have decided on red 12 from SG 4. Though i don't think i will be doing that build for this GB. So i will be keen to see how you get on.
