OK my friends... a bit more progress... Note to self, DONOT put exhaust on before fitting engine to frame. Oh well, take em back off. Also, no wheel wells... we make some!

Hang in there with it Bill! I can't say that I had the same issues as you with your kit but mine gave m plenty of grief in the beginning. Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Sorry about your dog and house.

Dog is fine now. House can wait (hey, got models to build, right?) Took care of former employer issue (they'll never find herWhistling ) -kidding-. Fixed my off-center cockpit problem (got brave and BROKE it out, all good. But my issues are far from over. wait til I assemble fuse halves. gonna be F U N ! if I wasn't building this for a friend and in this GB, I'd be done and so would the plane Dead

I've built other old hasegawa kits that were great (my spitfire for example) but this one . . . . .?  I'll just stay clear of any similarly labeled hasegawa kits.

promise I'll post some pics and have more cheerful news tomorrow. thanks guys

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

That's some nice progress you made there, Doug! Can't wait to see more. I have no time for my projects in here atm. I need to finish my Wildcat before I can start working on them again...

Doug, I am really, REALLY impressed with your work there. You are doing a first rate job on adding all of that detail.

Nice work Doug. Really nice work! The only thing about this much detail using aftermarket engines is 1)They don't always fit the application even remotely and 2) the mounting is left entirely up to the builder. I installed a DB605 Aires engine into a Hasegawa 1/48 Bf109 G-10 and it took literally FOREVER to figure out how to get it to fit and mount up. I got it but looking back mine was a hack job. I've learned alot from that experience.  Keep at it Doug. The answers will come pal, Joe

As for mine I've spent a little more time trying to get my engine to mount up to the mounts. Its trying but patience is key here. Been a little under the weather this week so progress is slow.

Looking good Doug, it just wouldn't be modeling if it fit right the first......or second go. Wink

Joe R Thanks bud... Were gonna give her hell!

Joe  (M) I got kind of lucky, The lower section of the body (below the top panels) held engine in place allowing a lot of guess work to be eliminated. (whew)

Well here are some more pictures, I'm starting to get into the paint now...We'll let this set up for awhile before going any further. This is going to be a cool paint if it comes out like the pictures. Its just too bad that there wern't more examples of camo schemes that survived the war.

A few more pictures...Starting to get into the "break up" patern now... I've got the clear on too and it will be a day or two before I can get started on the decals.

First let me tell you all that there is definitely some first rate modeling going on here in this GB. Nice work everyone. I'm a bit overdo posting some pics so I'll give you all one. Although it isn't much I have made some miniscule progress in detailing the wheel wells and painting and detailing the tail wheel. I need to shoot some more RLM 76 up further on the fuselage and then some masking and then the RLM 84 to start on the upper fuselage. Oh, almost forgot that I had my first ordeal with putting the white spiral decal on the prop hub. First one I had from the kit sheet was old and disintegrated. My next attempt was from same sheet from my other identical kit. I didn't trim it as close and although it tore in a couple of spots I was able to slide it all together satisfactorily. Enjoy!

Joe Rix:Nice work there Joe! I'm liking the detail in the 72nd scale stuff.

Rigidrider: Man I don't think Joe Rix could have put it any better Doug. I've installed engines that didn't have the mounting included with the engine kit into aircraft kits that weren't made with opening the engine compartment up in mind and I know about the work involved. This one is coming together nicely When you first started this whole Monogram 190 with all the goodies I was telling myself that you had your work cut out for you. Instead I think the model has it's work cut out for you! Good job Doug!

Everybody:  I haven't dropped off of the face of the earth yet. Just been busy with work and my son's Allstar baseball games and his practices. I've been working on the wing root gun bays and let me tell you there is a slew of stuff to cram in there photo etch wise! It's coming together though and will post pics soon.

Again, Thanks guys... I never can get over some of the work that can be crammed into a 72nd scale like Joe and Bish can do... Just mind boggling! I cant hardly handle the parts any more!(ha),

And Joe (M) the kids always come first. I talked to a guy one time that had his twin 7 yr olds with him all camoed out after deer hunting, and asked if he had any luck, He just grinned and nodded towards the boys, and said "you got to be kidding". But you know, like I told him, My son is 26 yrs old now and has been in the Navy for almost 8 years, and he STILL talks about the times that Dad took him"hunting". Those are the things that they will remember.

And Clemens... The camo pattern is what caught my eye. JG54 pretty much did as they pleased as long as they stuck to the RLM colors. During the winter the craft was ashuredly almost totally white, and as the spring thaw came they would wash off areas of the whitewash to expose the original camo pattern that was underneath , adding some black splotches to try to break up their outline. I guarantee you this is one of the most challenging pattern I've tried to do on a 48th scale.

More soon guys!

Doug (RR)

Joe - Good to hear your making some progress. But, in the meanwhile, here's hoping Joseph's team tears it up.

Doug - Thank You for the accolades on the 1/72 efforts. But, let's not pile on too much yet as I still have to pull off the camo scheme that is every bit as intricate as the one you did.

Amazing how that last flat coat just ties it all together isn't it!! Look really good Doug!! Are we still open for entries? There may be a slight off the wall minute possbility that I may be interested in an Eduard double build....just a sucker for punishment I guess.

Thank you one and all! Your too kind... As I said earlier, shes coming along at a good pace now, Probably a few more days though... And Eric, I think you could join in up to the last day if you think you can get one done(LOL). And Nathan, you inspired me to attempt this when you said that 48s are screaming for detail too!~ (ha)(always good to hear from you ) After this one I'm going to have to take a break for a short...Other commitments, but I will still be lurking about watching the beautiful work being done here. Take care my friends... More pics soon!
