Amazing how that last flat coat just ties it all together isn't it!! Look really good Doug!! Are we still open for entries? There may be a slight off the wall minute possbility that I may be interested in an Eduard double build....just a sucker for punishment I guess.

Youre dang skippy we are still open for entries! I need somebody here to finish with me. Looking forward to seeing you back in here Eric!

It's been a while, sorry life in general has got the better of me and model building has taken a back seat. I have been getting all the replies in this build so have still been in touch, great bunch of members here!

I started the Arrii kit, it's a fairly basic kit and I'm doing it straight out the box. My last contact here showed the poor clear bits - the canopy parts were anything but clear. I have a couple of options here - clean them up with micro mesh, build my own from clearplastic, get an aftermarket one,or raid some of my other kits - it might be a combination of these.

This build was always going to be experimental, even more so when I looked at the state of the decals, and the Arri instruction sheet was pretty to difficult to fathom out when it came to colour scheme.

I have now made some progress, here are some pics:

Decided to paint on the decals, so a bit of white primer and flat white was laid down as a base, then masked

i1234.photobucket.com/.../b2f44901828daef95d819c91929f52eb_zpsb31f1187.jpg

Masking lifted the white on one of the underside crosses, have some repair work to do here, not for the first time. Have found some spare decals so might just use them here although not the correct size

i1234.photobucket.com/.../60408581e0aca3fa7b0cd1b4c6dcb7c2_zpse34d8fe0.jpg

Here's the original decals and you can see why I'm not using them

i1234.photobucket.com/.../714f6530a7b94417464ba66f0bc0f312_zpsc3e52467.jpg

Compared with my painted option, the white comes out nicely

i1234.photobucket.com/.../615b0915672823a26704c3520d7ffb2c_zpsb6ff0654.jpg

I have used Model Master Swarzgrau for the upper surface colours and mottle spots, just added some white for the lighter grey. The underside is Model Master Underside Blue with a touch of white added. The painted decals have some rough edges and the mottle has some overspray but will do for now, mission accomplished.

i1234.photobucket.com/.../936aa0071eaea7c4b568d5b46389f7e6_zps4221da11.jpg

Apart from the decals the decals no masking was used, did this all freehand. I used my Paasche H for the underside and first attempt on the upper surfaces. There was a lot of overspray on the upper scheme so redid this with my troublesome Iwata gravity feed which I haven't used in along while. The finer nozzle did a tidy job.

As mentioned earlier this was experimental and am satisfied with these results. Next to fix up the underwing crosses then apply the first dull cote before weathering and all the fiddly bits

Thanks for looking, will hopefully put this one to bed during the course of this week

NB you did a fine job on the mottling, I know because I was forced to hand paint them due to lousy AB control!

BTW, your image links should post if you use rich formatting and paste link in the proper location.

Thanks for feedback Reasoned - not sure what you mean by "rich format & paste in proper location"?

I use photobucket, copy the IMG button, and paste here, I did this from my iPad, normally use the pc - will try again

Your Fw looks awesome, NB! After seeing all the nice work here, I'm itching to get on with my FW, but I need to finish the Wildcat for the Carrier GB first...

Cheers, Clemens

Good job NB! I would never attempt insignia without decals(at least not yet!). It takes me long enough to finish one without doing that kind of stuff. Really liking the soft edges on the camo pattern. Nice job.

NB, nice looking build. I would like to try painting my own insignia at some point. I think that might be my next challenge. Yours look great.

Thank Gawd, as I was about to chastise you teasing us with only one photo. How did Joseph do in his tournament?

NB are you pre-shading with a Sharpie? You better be using enamels and I thought I was the only one who did that!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Reasoned - not sure what a Sharpie is? I used Vallejo Black Primer for preshading, and yes MM Enamels

Mustang - great pic of the He-219. I have recently acquired the Revell 1/32 version - hence my experimenting on the ARRII  kit , there's a lot of mottle practice required a few more FW-190's and Bf-110's before I tackle that one!

It's a pen marker.  Your panel lines look like they were drawn and painted.  I use the Sharpie for better control than the AB (plus I don't have to clean it), just can't use acrylics, they will bleed through.

That model room has come a long way. It used to be a small space with models just thrown in there. The Lexington crew has done a great job with an organized and well laid out approach in it's model display.

Joe, Thank for sharing the pics. That is indeed a sweet collection and beautifully displayed. I envy the fact that you have such an awesome place where YOU will be displaying your models. Lord knows yours are of the quality to be placed there.

I agree with Joe R... You do exceptional work on your builds... Wish We had a place like that here in the Atlanta area.

Well, That being said, I humbly present my latest build, Heinrich Sterr, Fw 190-A4 yellow 2+bar circa 1943, Eastern front. Obfwl Sterr scored 127 victories in his 2 years with the Luftwaffe, with II/Jg54. In 1944 after 2 years with Jg54 , Bazi (Rascal) was transfered to IVgp in defence of the Reich duties and on 26 Nov. 1944 was downed by a P51 while attempting to land at Vorden. Thanks...

I just don't know what to say about your Fw, Doug! It is way too beautiful to describe with words... I really love all the detail on this model and the camo patter you chose is looking really nice. Your model is just plain awesome!

Cheers, Clemens (I was so impressed, I nearly forgot my name for a sec...)

OH WOW!!! Doug, that is flat out, undeniably fantastic and awesome. I mean come on. that's an old Monogram Fw 190! That right there is a magnificent demonstration of modeling skills and abilities.

So, now to pick at that source of talent you possess. What did you do/use to attain that excellent overall weathered look? Post shading, pastels, light dusting? I do hope you share your secrets with us Doug.
