Thanks for all the info, guys!
Doug: It's good to hear that it seems to be a good kit!

Morning Clemens...
I just last week talked to the owner of the LHS I frequent and being interested in the same kit, was told by him that it was a very nice and well detailed kit for the money. He was also showing me a RLM He219 UHU kit in 1/32 that has just been rereleased and it also is receiving good reviews. I've not examined myself, but am likely going to get one of each after the Christmas gifting is done.

Well everyone my budget was approved ,, so ,, 1/32 Has FW190D-9 ,, Eduard add-ons, Aires gun bays.....wonderful work here everyone! This is a very talented group of modelers indeed!!! Looking forward to seeing more builds new and ones continuing , Herman and I will be bouncing in and outta here not sure when we will crack boxes open ,, but they are on the way at least....
I'm not able to help you much on the 109 question Clemens. Is that a Revell of Germany 109? If so, I imagine it's a right nice kit. I'm looking forward to your efforts with the HGW seatbelts. I have a couple of sets of those, 1/48 Luftwaffe and USAAF, but I have yet to use them.
The mass assembly is making some slow but sure progress. I'm working at the HGW belts right now and I'll be able to start the fuselage construction after they are finished. I should be able to post an update next week
Do you guys know anything about the new Revell 109 G-6 compared to the Hasegawa 109s? I had a look through my stash of German aircraft because I was looking for some decals for my captured P-47 and I realized that there's only a single Bf 109 in said stash . I'm kinda torn between the Hasegawa G-2 and the Revell G-6. I love the 1/48 Hasegawa 190s and their big P-47 looks very good as well, but the Revell kit is less than 1/3rd the price here in Austria (20€ vs 70€ for the Hasegawa kit). This means that I can get an Aires resin 'pit, Barracudacast wheels and Eduard masks in addition to the Revell kit for the money I'd pay for the bare Hasegawa kit.
Clemens, I can't say as I know a great deal about Classic Airframes beyond that they have been around awhile and specialized in molding lesser mainstream aircraft. Not even sure if they are still in business. How goes the mass assembly?
Joe: Thanks a lot for those links. 95.50$ is indeed way too much though. Now I know there is a 1/48 kit of this plane at least! I never heard of Classic Airframes. Is it a short run kit?
I can see where doing the same thing constantly would get boring and get to you. Every now and then it's nice to have a challenge!

Your absolutely right! That was exactly what they were run on. For a little while I was a tool maker, and did enjoy running a Bridgeport mill but grew tired of standing in front of the same machine day after day and went another path. What was cool about these dies were they were innerchangeable. with other dies.
I'll bet it WAS fun watching that, Doug. At about the same time I would have been creating our first paper spool tapes for our first CNC machines. What would have really been a hoot would have been watching mold makers produce injection molding molds before CNC. Mind-boggling to me.
And 50% off, cool!
Handi... Have missed seeing your work here... welcome back, and Herman too!
Chanter, I'd test it first on a test panel, (ask Joe R about that) I use lacquer thinner alot to thin my acrylics that will accept it,(not all will) but if you have finished with enamel, you may be in for a an un plesant surprise. I painted a "Tru-flame" paint job on a guys roll around tool chest one time using a gloss black base claiming to be lacquer safe, and epoxy candy for the flames, sprayed lacquer top coat over it and the thing "after about 5 min" began to wrinkle! Ruined the entire job. Had to strip off and start over from scratch.
Joe and Greg, We were able to get any thing they produced at 1/2 off, That was about it, Oh and we could rummage through the returned or damaged goods for free as long as you had permission from your super.
Greg, It really depended on the project, Some were done inhouse on CNC machines which was very cool to watch, keeping in mind that this was in the computer infancy stage of machine working technology.Others were farmed out. The cool thing was watching them work in the screw ram and I would marvel at the accuracy and strngth required , being that most of the rams operated at up to 50,000psi.
Great to have you, handi! I'm also looking fwd to watching a 190 in 1/32nd. I think you won't be able to help having fun here, truly a great group of folks.
Doug, extremely interesting that you worked at MPC! Were the molds made in house or were they farmed out? Always thought it would be neat watching a set of molds being made.
Welcome aboard Handiabled!
Fellas, I have a quick question about flat coat sprays. I have a rattle can of Testors, but it is laquer. Is it ok? I painted (and futured) with acrylics. I'm thinking I'm just about ready to dull her up. This will be the first time I've ever done this, so I'm a bit apprehensive.
Thanks,
Allen
Thanks Everyone,,, haven't been far away just been a heck of a year , sold house, moved, blah blah blah,,, anyway I will let you know which kit it will be as soon as the boss clears it,,( I know weak but true right? ) Herman of course says nothing..... but he did stare at me for a bit.....
Welcome aboard handi! We haven't had too many large scale 190's. Can't wait to see your work!
Eric
handiabled Hey Joe,,, So,,, since you made this a bit longer I'm gonna (and by me I mean Herman) will throw a kit at this GB as well ,, not sure what,, not sure when ,, but .... sometime

Doug that would be absolutely cool to work for a model manufacturer for a number of reasons! Any perks with the job?
Morning Joe and Joe... Joe M , Yeah I think your right, Either a monday or a friday model., sorry!!! No telling, I guess it happens all the time and I just received a Ju87 kit I bought on Ebay by Hobby Boss and as you said, as much flash as an atomic bomb! lol...
Joe R, I worked for MPC for 7 years, when it was the "Fun Deminision" of General Mills. We had controling interest and owned Airfix of England, Lionell Trains, Estes Rockets, Crafts Masters paint sets and a few more. Most everything was under 4 huge factories in a row in the same buisness park in New Baltimore Michigan, After we consolidated from location in Mt.Clements Michigan.I started out stocking the assy lines, then went to the warehouse working on the shipping and receiving docks, Then to the plating dept and finally to the molding department keeping the Screw Rams going. It was interesting work for a young guy just getting started, and I at times would work over in most any dept. just to see how it worked. That was back in the late 60s and early 70s.
Hey Clemens, Does it matter what scale? I found that Classic Airframes did one in 1/48 and Pavla one in 1/72. I just took a look on ebay and found one of each available. Unfortunately, the seller advertising the 1/48 Classic Airframes kit wants $95.50!!! Yikes.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Airframes-1-48-Republic-P-43-Lancer-/190989710806?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2c77dfb5d6
You might do a saved search on ebay for "1/48 P-43 Lancer" and maybe you'll get an email alert of one more affordable. That particular feature on ebay has netted me numerous hard to find items at affordable prices. It just requires a healthy amount of patience.
In case you are interested here is the one 1/72 Pavla advertised:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-72-Scale-Pavla-Republic-P-43-Lancer-Model-Airplane-Kit-/201003488037?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2eccbdd325
I will continue to keep my eye out for any other options for you Clemens.
As we are talking about rare model finds already, maybe you guys can help me out:
I want to build some kind of aircraft displayin the not-so-near future with the history of Republic Aviation as the theme. I basically want to build every aircraft they built (no experimental ones) in 1/48 scale. Here's what I need:
P-35 (Academy)
P-43 Lancer
P-47 Thunderbolt (Tamiya)
F-48G Thunderjet (Tamiya)
F-84F Thunderstreak (HobbyBoss)
F-105 Thunderchief (HobbyBoss)
A-10 Thunderbolt 2 (Tamiya)
Now what do I need help with? I found a kit for evey plane on this list, but I didin't see any kits of the P-43 Lancer in this scale. Are there any?
Hey Joe, maybe the date you bought it caused so much trouble: If you got it less than 6 hours before posting your find here, the date would be Friday 13th here in Austria... Just sayin' That "Wulfstang sure looks cool btw!
RigidriderI think I told you I worked at MPC models when I was a younger guy.
Handiabled looks like he's going to join the build here with a 1/32 scale offering.
Doug, You worked at MPC? How cool is that. What did you do? Funny, I still have an MPC B-29 and MIG 15 I got back when I was in high school. They are stored away in my school bus with my other older models.
Joe (Mustang) ... Brother I dont know what happened to your MPM kits, but just to make sure, I got all 4 of the ones I have out,and checked again, and I swear there is virtually no flashing on either of them. odd, Usually that is caused when the die press has insufficant hydraulic pressure to keep dies firmly together during the pressured injection phase, or the plastic is at too high a temperature (too liqiud) as the styrene enters the screw and is forced into the dies, Oh well ... sorry I went off on a tangent, I think I told you I worked at MPC models when I was a younger guy. Any way... I'm looking forward to some day building the Fw189...Take care!
Doug
Doug, thanks for the additional info on MPM and ICM. I like Eduard stuff, so I've already figured I want to try some other Czech stuff.
Well well well if it aint ol handiabled!!! Man it's great to see you around here again and you are MORE than welcome in here!!! Lemme know what and when pal!
