JOE RIX

Intervention? INTERVENTION? Oh. no, no ,no. This, brother, is a time for raising ones arms in celebration and shouting HALLELUJAH!!!! Allen, you have stepped into the light of the styrene and begun to walk into it. Embrace it! Acept it! Let it fill your very soul with its allure and power. Cast aside your sensibility and silly need for financial security. You are amongst like brothers now. Allow it to infiltrate every ounce of free space you have. Can I get an AMEN here!!

The Reverend Joe

lol Rev Joe, I shall henceforth walk towards the light....grey styrene.Lightning

Amen.

I'd been wondering about the 'Reverend' Joe thing. It is becoming clearer now. Thanks for making me smile over during my coffee, Joe. Toast

Sadly though brothers it seems one of our flock has chosen to wander. He has seen fit to impose his self will and "weed" his stash of styrene. I fear there may be no hope for his lost soul. Regrettably, I feel that there is but one ultimate result of this heinous act...Joe will burn in hell for eternity.

Hey greg... Yes its multi layered, The original picture of the actual aircraft looks almost as if it were hand painted. So what I did, was started with red, cut a thin strip or tape and layed it on the red, then painted white, then removed the tape strip exposing the red, then cut a bit wider strip of tape and tried to lay it over the red keeping as close to center as possible without smoothing edges too much, letting it look a bit rough, then sprayed black over that. Remove the tape and there you have it. Like I said, the actual spinner on the picture looks kinda rough like it was hand painted and I'm trying to stay close as possible to the picture.

Nice start, Doug! This one's gonna be awesome!

Greg: Same here! I got myself one 190 and after joinining this GB I have a total amount of 12 190s in my stash (including that big ol' ZM 152) and 2 more on their way to me: Eduard's Grünherz combo which includes decals for Walter Nowotny's aircraft - the highest scoring Austrian ace with 258 kills (a little bit of patriotism aint gonna harm anyone, right? Wink) That makes for a total of 14 Fw's (weren't we all talkin' 'bout resistance? Nah, no chance...)

Looking good there, Doug. I'm baffled how you started with the red spinner and ended up with a white spiral with a red stripe in the middle though. Two separate masks perhaps? Whatever the answer, I say Yikes! Looks great, though, however you did it!

Allen, yep. Wink As I've mentioned before, I got a 190 just to join this group, thinking it would be the first and last I would likely build. Started my second and one more on my shelf.

I'd blame you guys when the boss questions some day why 3? (Hasn't noticed yet), but it wouldn't work. Whistling

I'm happy. Just pulled off a LIGHT dullcoat on my cockpit. Y'all were right, slow down and take time to let the first coat dry, see what it looks like! Might be hope for me afterall?

Cool. That new Airfix kit sounds like a good one. I love the Typhoon and have the Hasegawa 48 in the stash with every AM possible.

Hey Nathan,

It is Airfix's 1/72 Mk IB.

I was in a hobby shop while visiting my folks one weekend and had given myself a set amount to spend.  By the time I'd picked up everything I originally went in for (no models were on the shopping list that trip) I had a few bucks left over, so it went into the pile. Whistling

Chanter

So here I sit eyeing the various 190 kits out there, trying to decide what I'd like to build next, when I haven't even finished my current one.  PLUS - I just added a P-38, 2 109s, Typhoon and Skyraider to my collection.  So, when exactly does the transformation occur? - used to be Buy a kit, build a kit.  Now it's Buy 10 kits, look at them and buy something else to maybe build.

I may need an intervention.Smile

Allen

This is good! I found myself in the same predicament. For a while my stash was considerably bigger than what it is now. I ended up weeding through them at one point like a gardener weeding out weeds and being totally honest with myself whether I was going to actually build some of the stuff in my stash or not. For me to acquire a kit nowadays I have to approach the purchase with the same self honesty I used on the weed-out task.  It has to be a really good kit too.

Allen,

Sounds about right.  Don't worry it happens to all of us, in 20 years you'll have 300-400 kits in the garage,  and 9 started on the work bench and wanting to get the next newest one out there and start on it right away, Oh wait that's me!Surprise  I have about 9 kits on the hold shelf at my LHS,  three spacecraft a spitfire a submarine with another one on the way and I can't remember what else.  Help! Help!

Sweet start Doug! I want me a 190G series now. Kind of obscure theater the schlategruppe operations, and different markings too for the 190As.

OK friends... moving right along and hoping that Photo Bucket keeps in the order I down load in.... Pictures!!!

This is the scheme I want to attempt...The lower gear doors will be removed to avoid ice dirt and sanow build up. For some reason as usual Photo-Blunder wont allow the actual picture to be posted.

And this is what was left of the box... Believe it or not, decals were fine, but I wont be using them.

Not sure why the shine all over (speckles) likely from the oil gloss wash, I really do need a new camera, and maybe Mrs Clause will be nice this year... Nahhh, probably not.

The spinner looked a little rough in the picture, and I tried to duplicate by not pressing too hard on mask when applying paint. I believe the red inentifies a 1Stab. aircraft.

Thats all for now... Take care

Doug

Clemens in one of his "rational" moments... (grin) Sorry my friend, I keep thinking of you doing 9 builds at once and wonder how you keep your sanity! Ha...My feeble capacity might could possibly manage 2, but with great strife and angst! LOL...

Joe, wish I could be there to see the effect in person. I think I can see the effect from the pics, and it looks great! Thanks for sharing the needle/pressure tips, i'd wondered about that.

And thanks for the encouragement on my start, gents. :)

Joe... She come out great. it softened the lines and took the gloss out of the decals as intended. Sometimes "subtle: is fine, and thats the beauty of that mixture, you  can do light or heavy just by adjusting the paint thinner mix, and or the number of coats! Very nice.

Alrighty, I've got some pics for you. Although they're not real good you can kind of see the effect. Once again, I was simply trying to soften the overall camo not go for an extremely faded look. I used a very thinTamiya light gray XF-66. I broke out my Badger Renegade with e fine needle and set the pressure at about 8 psi. I then traced each of the decals. I then applied an overall light misting. Also, while I had the gray loaded, I  started the exhaust effect by by shooting some of the gray mix on the exhaust plates.

It's just a bit subtle but, achieved a desirable effect.I did not want mess up the model by over doing it.

Greg - Alright! Looks like a decent start. You certainly have more than enough guidance on this GB to be able to bring that Eduard beast home flawlessly.

Doug - Hoo Doggie, I'm definitely looking forward to your winter camo 190. That "zebra" pattern, Red 9, you refer to is an awesome looking scheme indeed. I have a how to book, Focke Wulf FW 190 A/F, Assembly- Transformation-Painting-Weathering, in which a gentleman walks you through his Red 9 build and it is really awesome. Also, I have the decal sheet with Red 9 and Red 2 on it saved in my ebay cart that I have been sorely tempted to buy.

I applied Doug's thinned gray formula today and I will have some pics and details here right directly. It went quite well.
