Jimz:
the Irsh Air Corps had a Lysander done up in a silver paint finish. Would this qualify for hte build? Would like to consider doing it for the build.

Okay! I've just finished the F-86F Sabre in Philippine Air Force markings, and i can now claim that it is (quite litterally) a work of blood, sweat and tears.... Sweat is easy enough to come by but as i was moving the model, my arm snagged on my pinvise with the fine needle tip attached and it fell on my foot... OWW!!! Shock [:O] This is where the blood and tears kick in... As I am typing this i'm chanting "ignore the pain..." Did i say "Oww!!!" already?? Dead [xx(]

What's the rule on posting pics, Jim? Do we post pics, or links, or save the model 'til the deadline? Can I post them outside this thread? Big Smile [:D]

On to the B-17!! Smile [:)]

(Ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain, ignore the pain.......)

Well, the alclad went on ok on Friday night, or kinda ok. There were flaws in the paint job underneath that gave a rough, flat appearance in places, so it didn't work quite as well as it should have.
I'm going to use Alclad2 duraluminium on these areas, and I think some of them might be covered with decals. And weathering.
And strategic lighting. Ah well, it was the first time..... and were it looks good, it REALLY looks good.

Am taking a break from this GB to begin a Spitifre for the D-Day GB on the armour forum and this is interesting as I'll be making ML407 which is a "before" version of the Tr.IX i have done for THIS group build. When It's finished, I'll post pics of te two together.
It's interesting in that with these two models, you get a look at a kinda condensed history of one machine.

Am thinking of doing a Lysander next as the IAC had one in all-over silver as it acted as a target-tug apres the war.

Been working alot on the mustang to catch up hehe. Almost ready for painting which with any luck will start tommorrow. I was hoping to try Alclad2 but looks like it will be SNJ and MM non buffing metalizer.

AARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

A drop of CA glue on my wing!!!!. Angry [:(!] My Arii Ki-44 got a 1/4" drop and I'm trying to gently sand it off and I'll have to replace the recessed rivets! I don't know If I can effectively replucate this good enough for a NMF. OR I'll just use a kit I just purchased of Ebay and save this one project with a different paint scheme.

Guys, I'm back on the group build. I've started back on my F-89 and I have a little lesson for you guys.

If you're using SNJ, make sure you cover the model well. I accidently got one section of the model a bit light on a few passes and, when I masked over that area, it pulled the SNJ up. Opps! Oh well. We live an learn.

Finally finished foiling the Connie. As it is my first model in over 35 years, and my first foiling job, it won't bear the scrutiny of some of the others here, but jeez it sure does gleam and glow and look just fabulous. Now all I have to do is getmy fingerprint oils off the surface so I can properly apply the decals. I know next time to use latex gloves to prevent soiling the surface, but for now, what is the preferred way to clean foil prior to decaling? Thanks.

Since this is the NMF group build. let me ask this question here. Do you buff or leave it as is?

The MIG-19 in my sig pic is unbuffed with the exception of a few panels. I guess you would only buff if the aircraft was new. But then again, unless it was seriously neglected, wouldn't it be pretty shiny anyway?

Just trying to decide how I want to do this F-89. I have also been experimenting with adding black to the SNJ to spray indivdual panels.

jim a question, was going to email but want to get it out for all in the build. the p38 i have started is for the dday build also. the end date on that build is aug 6. instead of posting the images in the forum i am planning to post the url to the page that it is on. is that cool with you? it bends your rule a bit and i apologize for that.

Looking good, Joe! How about a closer shot of the interior? Oh, and you wouldn't happen to be a diabetic, would you? Big Smile [:D]

Wow, I just stumbled onto this thread, 'cause I was looking for help on the BMF for my P-51. I just stripped off my first attempt with Testors enamels and I'm getting ready to try again, I hope that the masking tape I choose this time won't leave those da%#$able adhesive streaks. If it does, I think this P-51 may encounter some heavy Flak, like a framing hammer... Any how the deal at SnJ sounds too good to resist!

Anyway, I AM doing a BMF come hell, high water or my wife. So I was wondering, "Can I play too?" Big Smile [:D]

shrikes not a diabetic but that disease runs in my family. sorry about the pics the camera is great for overall but horrible for closeups. seems the closer i get to the piece to show the closeup the blurrier the pic turns out. but i am working on a solution.

Hoping to post pics of the B-29 tomorrow when I get my film back. Should I post links to them, or put them directly here in the forum?

Me too! I'm the only one who's not a diabetic! I asked because i was wondering if the Lancette device in the first pic has a practical modeling use... Big Smile [:D] Has the B-18 arrived yet?

shrikes the object in the first pic is a dremel like tool that my wife gave to me. although i believe we still have needles and lancettes from my father. in our family diabetes sets in late in life, early to mid forties.

ok three days into the build here is the progress. the body is basically together, however the fit is not very good. i have had to use a lot of filler to fill the gaps. but pics speak better than words.

this is the first time for me and nmf. i am going to buff it. i think really it is determined by the build you are doing. sometimes a buff just wouldnt look right.

Joe: Wow, it looked like one of those fancy lancette thingies to me! Thank god, i don't have diabetes... My sister was 11 when it hit her, and my parents were into their early 50s when they got it. I'm the only one in the house that doesn't have it. I must also add that I'm almost (but not as) anxious as you about your B-18... I can't wait to see it come together! Wink [;)]

shrikes i have my fathers diabetic testing stuff yet. some of the needles and strips are a constant reminder of the way he died. it also reminds me of my potential future. really is not what i had in mind for my life but reality sets in.

the b-18 has me frustrated and angry. makes me think that they really dont need nor want my buisness.

Fightnjoe:
I am a diabetic, diagnosed, funnily enough, Sept, 2001, a week or so prior to 9/11. It does come as a complete shock, but my father is diabetic, diagnosed in his 60's (i am 38 this year). He's had 2 heart attacks, and I have managed to shoot out my left knee.

We're both still here.
Buut despite the changes in life style and so on, if you take care of yourself and follow the mediacl advise, generally you'll be ok.

If it bothers you, take a medical once a year, tell them about the family history. If they catch it early, it'll be fine.
If you want to talk about it, e-mail me. Always happy to chat.

Liam
ps, resprayed the F-84. Looks a bit better. Any suggestions re: darker panels and which shade of Alclad 2 to use? I've used Polished Aluminiun and Duraluimiun....or something splelled similar. Apologises, but had another Age of Empires/ Ghost Recon marathon last night...this is where the diabetes plays havoc. Very unforgiving of late nights.
Seriously tho, Fightnjoe, drop me an e-mail.
