One more thing about using BMF... I notice that although Q-tips are great for burnishing the stuff, you really have to watch it because they shed 'hairs' and then if you burnish over a hair that has fallen on your model, well by gum it shows up- and then you have to pull the foil off off and apply a new piece. So you have to be paranoid that each panel you do is really, really clean of any minute debris before you foil it.

I'm done! Big Smile [:D] Finished it this weekend, got it hung up as well. I'll post pictures as soon as this next roll gets developed (few more days at least).

To anyone considering building a B-29 in 1/48...be sure to have a lot of space available to display it! This thing is a monster! I didn't realize quite how big it was until it was up in my living room...good grief! But I love it (and so does my wife). Big Smile [:D]

Since I built it using after-market decals, I still have all the nose-art and tail-markings for "Humpin Honey" and "Cream of the Crop" in case anyone needs decals.

Yeah, my living room's becoming quite a museum...have data sheets in nice acrylic frames on each aircraft right underneath them.

Gear up, which was a bear with this kit (fit had some issues)...but it turned out well. Pictures are on the way, soon as I take my film in for developing. Hoping they come out okay, my camera is 13 years old and not very good...I'll see what I can do. Big Smile [:D]

Since I'm already working on it, I'll jump in with my 1/48 Arii Ki-44 'Tojo'. 10/31/04 sound reasonable even with the other two group builds -especially since 'Pear Habor' does not have an official end date :)

Okay, it's nearly 5 months until the official end date, and i just wanted to ask how people's builds are comming along. As for me, the F-86 is still awaiting the last few decals to be printed by a friend at my IPMS, and the B-17G is still in the pre-assembly painting stage.

I don't have any pictures to post just yet because my whole family made off with all the Digicams sicne they're all in New York at the moment, and i've been left behind to mind the house... Disapprove [V]

as for me still waiting the b-18 from avusk. been almost five months since i ordered it. beginning to get annoyed with the whole thing. may scrap the project and do a b-17 or something. was told two months ago that it would be sent out soon. angry words and such wont make a difference so i wont use them. however i dont believe i will be ordering anything else from them.
the p-38 is about to be started. i am concerned with the foil i am going to use to get the nmf. to that end i want to begin this a little early (it is for the dday build also). i want to have the option of using something else if the foil doesnt agree with me.

V Nice indeed,Obiwan. I'll have to learn airbruish and Alclad for next time...

Meanwhile, I am about 90% done with foiling the Constellation, and I have a newbie question: what would be the best way to get fingerprint oils off the foil surface? I need to clean the fuselage - thanks!

Very nice, Obiwan.

Fightinjoe:
Just take your time with the foil. I have found (after someone elsse suggested it) that using light coats of spray mount is a quick and relatively painless way of applying household foil.
Just be patient.

I love the B-17, but don't give up on the B-18 just yet, Joe! I've been looking forward to that one for some time! Maybe if you pray to St. Anthony, patron saint of lost things it'll turn up! LOL! Big Smile [:D]

Hope you enjoy the pictures (should they show up......I have no idea if I'm posting them correctly)

Lovely finishes on the models guys!
Will be attempting my first Alclad2 finish tonight or Friday, so wish me luck. This is going on the Tamiya 1/48 F-84G. The Tr.IX Irish Air Corps Spitfire is finished, but I used Tamiya gloss Alumimiun finish for that one.
Will get pics when the F-84G is finished. Might do a Lightening too...hmmmm.

Liam
actually, the Iirsh Air Corps had a Lysander done up in a silver paint finish. Would this qualify for hte build?

Smile [:)] Thanks 9x19mm, It was a fun project. It is the current re-release of the B-29 kit with painted insignia for the Circle R and the big 82 on the aft end of the fuse. The stars and bars are from the currently available Aeromaster sheet and the rest are home-made on an ink-jet printer or used from the kit supplied ones. The pictures wash the panel shades and textures a bit, but it still catches the eye pretty well. The interior work is really only visable by the pen-light police, but it's all in there. SnJ was the paint and then each panel was taped off and polished in different directions and level of sheen. One trick for the SnJ and probably could be done with Alclad too is to polish in the smallest circle you can make with your hand. This leaves a mottled look of burnished and weathered aluminum panels very nicely.

The idea behind the GB is to not show off your finiished models until the end of the GB on Halloween. Nice P*38 and B-29 but the rest of you please be patient and wait. Where did you get the Enola Gay markings? I still can't find any.

The Enola Gay markings are a conglomeration of painted markings for the Circle-R and the large 82 on the aft fuselage section. The Stars and bars are from the current Aeromaster sheet. The stencils, short of the small 82 on the nose and the nose gear door smoking warning are from the current re-release of Cream-of-the-Crop and Enola Gay, the small 82 on the nose and the No smoking within 100 ft. are printed on an inkjet printer using Bare-Metal Foil's decal printing paper. The stencils fonts for the 82 and smoking warning are available as share ware on the web, Enola Gay is from a scan of the original Monogram decals from their '77 release.

Howdy Fellas,

I'm a wee bit new here....but I would love to join in on your NMF festivities if I may??

I unfortunately (for me) don't have the time to read thru all 14 pages of posts regarding this Group Build (with something called "stickey's" apparently), but if you don't mind too much, I would like you to consider one of my entries in your noble cause........?

Tread.

(edit).....If I do HALF as good a job on my entry as some of you have.......well, I'll be ecstatic!! :-)
