When I started practicing with my new airbrush I used something even cheaper than $20 kits, used plastic water/soft drink bottles.  I still keep a few near my spray booth to check on how well my paint is going to behave when I use it.  I cannot remember where I got the tip from but I thought I would pass it along.

Man, that Raider is looking good! Taking the time to really mask things perfectly is something I need to work on. And the War of the Worlds kit looks really slick – I’d like to do that one someday. Spray bombed flat black on the complete superstructure as a pre-shade base. Will begin to tone in the greys hopefully by the weekend:

Ok, so that flew together, eh? Lookin` forward to the final product....

Oh boy...after slugging it out with a 1/24th Airfix FW-190 for the last 14 months, I'm feeling like I'm cheating here. This has got to be the fastest kit I ever built and to tell you the truth...I needed a break.

As you can see there's very few parts to it, germs not included.

To say she went together fast is an understatement. I used Testers liquid glue on the eye beam support arms followed it up with a little super glue in a couple of spots that didn't want to hold.

The main body when pressed together is near seamless, I used super glue in just two small spots on the left and right seams next to the fwd window to close them.  I will need to cover the seam that can be view through the fwd window but that will be done after I paint her.  Added every thing else and she's done except for the paint job, the instruction sheet calls for a copper color so I need to run out and grab some.

NOW! after I get done painting it the fun will really begin.

I think the ATF limits civilian phasers to light stun only.

I have built a midgrade phaser, have most of what I need to do a hero,

but I would like to try a stunt vacuformed version as seen on the show.

Never used Tamiya chrome, Alclad looks good and is easy to use so I've been using it. That's a good idea on different metallic shades there- some variation in tone will definably look better.

FnH: Haven't used Alclad's Aqua Gloss- will have to give that a try- thanks!

GAMERA i was thinking doing different panels in different shades of tamiya chrome, aluminum, metallic gray, etc and than do artist oil filters; some blues and greens and browns. maybe i should gloss coat the paint or future it (never done that before either) before washes.. 

But you will definitely need some kind of sealer over the High Shine paints because they rub off very easily, even from basic handling of the model, and do not hold up well to masking.
