Just a quick pic of the intended stance of the '71 Cuda with the wheels I will be using.

Nice update, Joe!  Progress is always progress, and then you get to work on it some more.  :)

There are 4 lights that will go in the booth.  The top has two surfaces at different angles to shoot light from the top, front and back.  Both sides will have lights as well to cover all the angles, I just have to go buy the lights today and mount them in place.  I will probably wire them with a dimmer switch, maybe, depending on what type of light I buy.  Total dollar amount is less that $50.00 by the time its completed.

Hey Tim. Don't apologize for that as it's constructive in nature and I'm curious how you are going to set that up anyways. I have a backdrop made out of white poster board and three different angles of lighting. lol

Well folks I made some small progress in the way of the fuel cap and outside rearview mirrors this morning. I drilled out the bottom of the mirror bases in order to pin the mirrors into the body later. I had to use mirror "glasses" from both of the spare kits I've bought for this build due to a large sink hole in one mirror from each boxing. Rather than use my AB or spray some clear gloss on the mirror housings, I opted to use the self-leveling feature of Future floor polish. They both came out great using this stuff. I also managed to finish the fuel cap after two applications of black wash. I accidentally scraped off some of the black background in the center of the fuel cap the night before last while trying to bring out the "FUEL" lettering. I've got it fixed though. The progress pic:

and after cleaning up and tidying up the piece, I opted to replace the original grill and start over. Got a couple of "upgrades" to do here.

Being that tomorrow is a snow day (Federal) in the D.C. area, I bought some stuff to keep my busy for the next few days.  Before I started on my next two builds, I wanted to build a proper photo booth.  I bought some Elmer's foam board while out at Michael's today and that was my "build' for the night.  lol I've been wanting to make one for a while since I'm really into the presentation and picture taking of the models when they are complete.  The plan is to build/buy some diorama and swap scenes in and out, that's why I made it as big as I did.  A few people were asking me about my photos, etc, so if you are interested in knowing how I built the photo booth, or any of my pic techniques, just let me know.

I just have to mount the lights in after I pick them up from Home Depot tomorrow.

Sorry... I know its not build related.

Tim

Just to give you an idea off the size.  It's pretty big, but should tolerate a few different diorama scenes in there.

Michael's had a big President's Day sale and I couldn't pass us the deal.  Two models for $15.00.  Big Smile

These are the ones you can add to the build list.

Powel - the white paint on my Sierra is Tamiya TS-26 Pure White, over their Fine White Primer. Both were sprayed from the rattle can.

Eric - The Ford Sierras dominated Group A (Touring Car) racing in Australia and Europe in the late eighties, and into the early nineties. For a few years in the late eighties, they were unstoppable in Australia, although the road version was never marketed here. This was during the era of the global 'Group A' rules for homologation of touring cars. Eventually, it all went pear shaped and Australian Touring Car racing went to a local set of rules that resulted in the 'V8 Supercar' series that still exists today as the premier motorsport in Australia (Grands Prix excluded).

V8 Supercars is no good for modelling, you can't get the right cars in kit form, so I have to revert to these older ones to do some of the famous Australian racers of that era. There are decals around to do about ten or so different ones, and I have most of them now. The problem is that Tamiya haven't re-released the kit since the early nineties, so they attract a collectors price now. Every now and then, I manage to get one at a reasonable price at a swap meet, so I've got this one and three others in my stash, and two on the shelf from 25 or so years ago.

The main competition in that era were Nissan Skylines (Tamiya and Fujimi), BMW M3s (Fujimi) and the Holden Commodore (can't get, or maybe rare resin kit) so there is room to build an interesting collection.

Cheers

Tony

That Sierra finish looks great Tony!

I held Monogram above all the other model manufacturers for a long time until this time around in my modeling career. It seems a lot of other manufactures think of thinks like that decal cut out way further in advance than Monogram does. It's a good job on the Cuda' make no mistake. It's Monogram that I question.

Mustang, Tim,

The decal is fairly easy to work with. I do recommend trimming out the notch for the door handles before putting them in the water. I didn't on the first one assuming they were good but then had to trim it while trying to fit it. They lay down well and after your clear coat them they look like they were painted.

Tony,

I've never seen a Ford Sierra. It looks fast hehehehe.

Eric

Joe - Good question.  I really like the 71 Plymouth GTX... decisions, decisions.

My wife wants it purple, so purple it is.  Probable Tamiya acrylic purple... I'm sure I can make it look like glass somehow.  lol

Tim: I'm assuming that's the Monogram  or Revell kit. Lemme know and I'll get it posted.

Eric: That Cuda' build looks great!!! How hard were those decals to work with? BTW I've got your AMT build posted pal!

Thanks Tim,

It's a decal that came with the kit. It has 2 coats of crystal clear on it. The paint is Testors enamel purple metallic sprayed over red primer. I didn't paint it an original color. I think Mopar called the original Goofy Grape and I believe it was non-metallic flake. I have seen the factory colors at HL in the spray cans.

Very nice, Eric!  Is the black a decal, or did you paint it?  Also, what sheen is it and if it is painted flat black, how'd you mask, paint, etc?  Is the original color a metallic purple or just purple?

Thanks a ton!

Tim,

Excellent choice. I built that kit in the 2014 GB. It is a fun kit.  Here's a few shots of it . I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Thanks everyone!  I told my wife that she could pick my next build, to include color.  Guess what she chose? Big Smile

I've been wanting to do this one for a while.  She wants it purple, too, but it be modified with a different stance and different wheels.  Yes!

Joe -  You can add this one to the build list for me.  I still have to order it, but I should get a jump on this next weekend.

Mustang,

Can you add the AMT Dirty Donny's Superbee to my build list. It's too cold to work in the shop so I'm going to start cutting out and cleaning up the parts while I'm watching TV hehehe. I'm going stir crazy not being able to touch my plastic lol.

Thanks.

Ewheeler454 thanks it's getting closer to the finish.

Joe thanks to man it would be great if you can make it to the show in April. I would like to see your Challenger  and meet you to. Just let me know if you need any information on the show.

Lee, there is a lot of scratch building using these kits in the picture to start with.

Thanks Powel.
