That's wild Wayne, The ammo come in parts? That is a very detailed kit.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Sorry to hear about your "hardward hassles" Wayne.

When we moved into the apartment complex I could no longer use my noisy compressor so I made one from an old fridge compressor and an LPG gas container.....not the prettiest but is is silent and works great.

Here is my sugetion. by let's say tomorrow evening (US local time) (pretty darn early in the morning here LOL) we tally the votes for the badge.

I totally agree that only "words" will be the best to go woth this one.

After I recover from the 48 hour "bug" that has me in bed I will start on my build.

Wayne. it is all of our GB :-)

Lets put it to the vote, the most popular wins....I am totally happy with that.

Theuns

ah yes the inevitable confusion which arises when reading print instead of talking or face to face. my intention was to give my vote equal weight with everyone else and not go all graphic artist postal if my favorite isn't picked. i see we have some votes including mine so, whatever the verdict is i will jazz it up a bit. i assume we are discussing wording. i don't see using a cool picture since the subject is too broad.

my harbor freight 3 gal tank compressor died this morning. really good death rattle. it was 6 years old. probably get another one since they are inexpensive and noise isn't an issue. spent 20 minutes connecting permutations and combinations of brass fitting thingies to my non variable back up compressor. i can wait for the next sale price as i am not doing detail work.

Kind of partial to the aim big, but the build or go home is a close second.  Other than that, either is great.

With someone like me with big catchers mitts and 10 thumbs that work like 12, need to get as big as possible.

i'm partial to aim big build big (like aim small shoot small from THE PATRIOT) but it's not my GB so whatever you decide i'll work with. i'm to old to care about "ownership" o\f graphics work.

That is a beautiful engine indeed! Did the kit come with the stand as well? That is the proverbial kit within a kit there!

Using the4 25% loophole rule I also cheated a little and built one of the MiG 19's engines for a special catagory for or IPMS meeting tomorrow

1/32 Tumanski RD-9B fitted to the MiG 19 PM

Out the box it builds into a nice little model on it's own.

With the little Fokker done I 'm getting ready.  And since I can't sit on my thumbs for 3 days and the rules allow for up to 25% already completed, I might start snipping and cleaning up tonight

When I opened the box and took out all the bagged sprues I didn't know how I would ever get them organized. My little files sorter looked so...well... little. But I managed to get most of them in order with just a few that will remain in the box until needed.

AM stuff collected, so far, are the Fundekal sheet for Marine F4U-1a's, Barracdue tires amnd Vector cowl flaps

and doing this bird...

I know some of these were posted already but I'll make this the official start set of pics.

Was an article on the supers in a classic or racing bird mag a month or so ago, and which ones were used and where they are now as far as can be determined.

Love the big or home badge.

First signs of life from this side...

Body and wings pre-assembled amd ready for primer and blue. Cockpit will require some alu, but at this stage the plan is to do that after the blue so that I do not affect the body colour (colour is quite translucent).
For those wondering WTF is going on in front - it's the P34 six-wheeler F1 car, which was the only of it's kind to be allowed to race. The big gap is for the four (small) front wheels. Told you it was a different subject to bring to this GB! Wink (If you have any questions about the subject, feel free to ask!)

Current state of the Cosworth engine and gearbox. More transmission work commencing shortly, but wanted to build the body bits (above) first and get them to the paint stage. Out of sequence, but allows for proper drying and no impatience for waiting times when it is actually required.

I really doubt development would have continued. It seems we had pretty much reached the pinnacle of propeller driven fighters. You can only get so much out of a spinning prop. Physics, blade tips reaching the speed of sound and such ya know. The jet engine just showed too much promise.

I was wondering the same thing myself about the Wiki article on the F2G. I just know that she is a gorgeous looking bird! I wonder if development had continued if they could not have squeezed more speed out of it with more time to fine tune the design.

Lord knows I don't know much... so i don't know if there ever was a Corsair with a bubble in the true sense like a P-51D, but the -1a was the 1st variation off the original with the bird cage and that was eliminated.

Ah but there was, the F2G "Super Corsair". The F2G was developed as the ultimate answer to the Kamikaze problem of the Corsair family, sporting a true teardrop bubble canopy and 28 cylinder P&W R-4360 3000 HP engine. The end of the war and the F8F brought it's development to an end after only 10 had been built. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj241/jaepton/046F2G-2TaxiStarkes5X704-15-46Album.jpg

See, I was right when I said, "Lord knows I don't know much..."  LOL  i always thought that was nothing more than an air racing mod version.  Ya kNow, like when they take an already gorgeous P-51D and mod it with extra streamlining, reshape the flying surfaces and add a tiny little funny shaped bubble canopy.  IT"S BLASPHEMY I TELL YA!Big Smile

Of course I had to go look it up. An interesting comment (that I am paraphrasing) on Wikipedia that the concept was more of a wrapper for that massive engine.  I do wonder about the number Wiki reports though.  They list the top speed of the F4u with a PW2800 @2000 HP as 417 and the F2G with a PW4360 @3000 HP at 431 MPH.   While I realize those were the times when every MPH could be what put you on top in a fight, it seems like a lot of development for a 3.5% increase in speed and a surprise that's all with 50% increase in HP.  Are these numbers accurate?
