Thanks Joe.

Did a little research on Ernest "Feeb" Fibelkorn, the subject of my build. He was actually a little big for a fighter pilot at 6-4 and 220 lbs. He was the top scoring Ace of the 20th FG. On Nov.8, 1944, he and Edward Haydon from 357th FG teamed up on a lone Me 262 eventually shooting it down. The pilot never bailed out and was killed. That pilot was Walter Nowotny.

Feeb went on to fight in Korea where he was killed while flying an F-82.

Can I join up?  Scale is 1/72, country is somewhere in Latin America (Guatemala most likely), don't know which kit, either Tamiya or Airfix.

GREAT news -- more or less lol  The person from Craigs List finally got back to me about the AM A-36.   They told me it was still available (score!) after a month of being listed.  I asked what was the cheapest shipping possible, and they said $5.95  (the kit itself is only $5 still sealed!).   That brings the price to $10.95, which is right in the sweet spot for me.   I told them last night that I would take it.  I am still waiting on their reply.     So don't put me down as of yet, but i'm 95% sure i'll have it soon.  It takes them a while to reply to my emails.

Lewbud,

I have you down with a 1/72 TBD, welcome aboard

Mike,

I have you down as a possible entry with an A-36. Just let me know when you get the kit so I can update the front page

Mike, not sure how you feel about eBay but I found almost all of my accurate miniature kiss on there. The only ones I usually see over priced are the B-25 kits. Just a suggestion if your deal doesn't work out.

I had planned on starting my A-36 this weekend But I got a stomach cold Friday night so I'm not sure I'll work on anything this weekend.

Some progress on my 51 (Tamiya 1/48 P-51B), I was able to apply a wash on the cockpit and close up the main fuselage last night.  With the exception of decals, this one is going to be OOB for me.  Not to worry though, I'll be trying some new stuff on the finish to see if I can make it work.

When I finish the build, I'll try to talk my wife into letting me use her nice camera vice my cell phone (flash is a little overpowering).

Your moving right along Groot,

Nice job on that OOB cockpit. It takes a real artist to make a kit cockpit look good without PE help.

lewbud,

I got you updated.

I like those colors, that's going to look sweet. I like OOB thinking.

Groot

Great job on the interior. It's shaping up nice.

Hey did you guys know that the P51 was fitted with ramjet engines as an experiment? I was exchanging Mustang  info with Jessie Cooper over at Aeroscale and she's doing this weird looking Mustang. Check out the kit review::

I didn't. That may be an idea for Bish's 1946 build next January, and since the Mustang build goes well into 2016.........Hmm

Yes, I do believe that was done in 46 so it may be just what Bish needs for an unusual subject.

A couple of things to do before sealing up the fuselage.

I drilled out the exhaust stacks. Left  one is drilled out with my mini drill bits which add more detail as compared to the undrilled stack on the right.

The tail wheel got boxed in with a couple of small plastic sheet pieces. I save those junk advertisement plastic cards in the mail just for something like this.

Next will be attaching the stacks and painting the tail wheel bay before attaching the pit and gluing the fuse halves.

PJ,

I had a hard enough time drilling out the stacks on my 1/32 scale.... nice.
I'm going to try a new method for me. Check out this other thread,
http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/164113.aspx.
The discussion is regarding stressed skin. I am really bothered by the fact the this kit, while very detailed, is covered by hundreds of micro raised rivets. Once I fill and sand anything I will erase them and I'm not sure how to replace them, so I'm going a different tack. I will sand them all off, do this stressed skin approach, and may try to reapply them as dimples.

I have now idea if this is going to work or not, but I have the time. I also broke down and purchased a PE cockpit, which cost more than I bought the kit for. The office it came with was not as nice as the rest of the kit. Sheesh I hate doing that.

MC

I'm getting an error code with that link. Archer makes raised details in a decal form that may be useful to you.

Sorry PJ, try this,

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/164113.aspx

I don't think the decals are this small, I mean they are MICRO. You can barely see or feel them, but they will definitely show up, present or missing, with Alclad.

PJ, like the idea of keeping that junk plastic...thanks for that!

One of the articles in the latest issue mentioned using a pounce wheel to dimple in rivets, but don't know if you could find one with close enough spacing. for a small scale model.

Those junk cards really come in Handy for a bunch of other things too such as mixing putty, paint. spreading tool, even a paint chip card.

I have a wheel set from Micromark that I bought a long time ago and it has 3 sizes even small enough for 1/72.

Well krud! Let's try it this way.

Flawless finish :-) in the aircraft forum.

I forgot about Micromark for a wheel. I look there since I just received a new catalog.

That's a lot of work to model stressed skin. I thought about doing the same thing to the 1/72 Type XI U Boat I have one deck  but the amount of surgery is a bit complex.

However, I don't want to discourage you so go on ahead. I'm sure it will be a stunning display piece.
