I just got my AccuMin kit in the mail this morning and I took it to work with me so I could drool over it during my lunch break and.....man!!  I don't think this is the original molding of this kit.  The detail is much nicer than what I was expecting.  The plastic is molded in light grey, the props aren't thick like I've seen in reviews, and most of the detail I'm seeing now must have must have just been difficult to see in photos.  I think this is finally going to be the quick, easy-going build that I've been looking forward to. =]

Let's hope I don't screw it up.

I may have to look into that one.

Pete here speaking of screwing it up. .oh buy the way ..thanks for the information on the invasion strips. Well as I was airbrushing the white on the stang ..I looked at the exhaust and thought as I airbrushed. ..something was not right so I kept.ed on going (once I start I Finnish )..after a stellar paint job .I looked at the exhausts again. .....then it dawned on me Censored!!!!#@#!!..Eugeniusz Horbaczewski's mustang has no exhaust stack heat shields ....aww Man.!!! And there glued good ..I should have noticed earlier but missed it ..great

Quick question for any Mustang gurus out there.

JJ England's "Jackie" was flying in the PTO late in '43 and into '44.  Even though it was a -A, I've no doubt the radio was changed out as different transmitters came available and with mission specific needs.  I didn't want to only build the typical A arrangement if I could learn about what his FBS was flying with.

Any help is very much appreciated. =]

Britt I don't know if this will help but this is from the Allison engine Mustang Walk Around book

Also said in the book that they didn't get A until mid '43 so England's plane was fairly "new"

Greetings All,

Manged to finally get my AM wheel well in and get this far. My first time spraying laquer. I'm glad I took the extra time to practice on the wings from the failed wheel well mess. Learned alot about the right thinning and had some splatter and dry tip issues, but managed to get a coat on. Revealed some more work on seams and a few blemishes from improper handeling while spraying. Will sand down and reshoot after this dries a bit more.

Made the decision to give AlCLAD a go. Might as well jump in with both feet.

As always, great looking work being done here. This rookie has learned a great deal from following the builds. Thanks to all who have taken the time to explain their methods and processes, it really helps us newbies a great deal!

Hi ..

Got all my wip pictures downloaded to photo bucket so I hope I'll get the hang of posting pick for you guys here on the GB.

I'm wondering if I should remove the exhaust farings on my trumpeter mustang lll  ..and wondered the best way to do it without wrecking the details.  Any ideas on how to proceed on this surgery. .or should I just leave it? ?..

Hay modelcrazy .

I know I've seen a few with them on and some not ..wondering why thay removed them ....better cooling I suppose. I did not build it with the engine so I geuss that's why I went ahead and installed them ..next time I'll have to be careful with my references. .

Thanks Johnny!  I think that's going to help a lot.  I have a photo with that top transmitter visible, but I couldn't determine what it was.  It looks very similar to this.  I have no other pictures of the receivers on the bottom shelf...so I might have to do some more digging or just go with what I've seen done for the -A over and over again just like above.  Many thanks! =]

Pete: I believe the fairings were later added to the P-51 exhaust stack to improve aerodynamics a little more. Just tweaking things I suppose.  Any time a fairing is added to  some feature that's often the case.

Thanks bvallot

Like modelcrazy said I should leave them as is . I'm in the middle of painting. It bugs me ..it's not what I intended to depict  (a mustang lll ) not a p51 b/c..Hmm

No worries.  If it matters to you still, you probably still have time to order an exhaust stack aftermarket piece that should just drop right in.  Ultracast often has the best around especially for the the Mustang.  Costs about $7-9 or so...plus shipping of course.  I try to combine my purchases when I can if I'm getting AM parts.  Or I just scratch them out myself.

Spruebrothers is an online store that has virtually everything and is reasonably priced.  Check em out. =]

Hello Folks!

I got started on this Accurate Miniatures kit, and progress has been pretty fast.  So far, it's a pretty straight forward build.  I'm going to build her as an OOB project, so there won't be too many bells and whistles.  I may try to find other decals to use, just because I see so many A-36's in the "To be built" list!  Anyway, here are pictures of the build, so far.

Thanks for reading my post, and as always, questions are welcome!  Have a great evening everyone!

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Hey, gang,

I've made some progress on my Tamiya B. I've finished up all of the interior bits and I think I've got it just about ready to close up the fuselage. I plan to do that this weekend.

Nice Larry! Can I ask, is the white wiring next to the microphone on the interior fuselage part of the kit or did you add it? It looks so good!

George,

I'm using the Aires resin P-51B cockpit set. The wiring is part of the replacement parts included in that set.

I finally got back to my Mustang and sprayed The Alclad, Airframe Aluminum. I’m not happy with it, but short of stripping it, which is not happing, I’m going to have to live with it. I’m hoping the weathering will help out. It may work out to my advantage.

Pete, it's a 1:48 Tamiya kit.

Steve, hang in there. I'm sure that you'll find a solution.

Steve,

That ended up happening to me in some spots as well. I ended up re-priming with Alclad black primer and spending hours polishing it. Even though I lost some surface detail that needed re-scribing, I was much happier the second time around.

I'm going to keep plowing forward. The aircraft is in maintenance so there will be some weathering to it. I am anxious if complete this build and move onto the 1/18 Merlin engine.
