Ardvark,
I notice one of your responses regarding lowered flaps on the 51. What I understand, and some of these really knowledgeable Mustang guys can correct me, is that the flaps were lowered so the pilot could mount and dismount. They would raise the flaps for taxi so prop wash wouldn't throw rocks and such and dent them. The landing gear doors would bleed down in a matter of hours so you will almost always see the gear doors dropped.

Are you just starting the kit or are you in the middle of it?

Love the color Steve. Check this out, the interior components of the 1997 SVT Cobra.

Not perfect but not bad at all I'd say

Thanx. Here's hoping I don't screw it up lol. And the colors are Tamiya's flat black and SP daylight red from Floquil's railroad line. The daylight red actually looks like a matte Orange when you apply it. And I believe the SP stands for Southern Pacific

Yes, that's correct. SP is the railroad line Southern Pacific. SF, Santa Fe, NP Northern Pacific and so on. Each railroad has it's own mix of colors. I used to work at a locomotive manufacturing plant here in Boise.

Hey FSM, I'm back with a small update.  Before I share I just wanted to say a few words to those that are hackin' plastic.

Bob - That primer looks good.  If you haven't shot your Alclad yet, allow me to offer some unsolicited advice.  I've been using Alclad on my NMF builds, and I've found that if you hit the primer coat with a 3000 or higher sanding pad before you spray your Alclad, the final coat will come out much smoother.  Good luck!

Freddie - Your AM Mustang's looking sharp!  Reminds me of a WIF project that I have buried in my pile that I've forgotten all about.  Maybe when I'm done with this HB Mustang, I'll pull the AM kit out and finish it up.

Larry - That aftermarket cockpit looks nice!  Your painting has done its detail justice.  Nice work!

Steve - Bummer about your paint, but I think it'll lend itself well to your idea of making your Mustang look like it's in maint.  Could be a blessing in disguise.  I'm looking forward to the finished product.

Kyuzo - Those colors really make your interior pop!  Can't wait to see what you do with the car's exterior.  Keep it up!

Now, I'm in the home stretch.  My Mustang has its decals on and it's been flat coated.  It's sitting on my table drying.  Once the flat coat's nice and hard, I'm gonna go back and weather the build to finish it up.  All the small fiddly bits are done and awating installation.  The only thing is I lost the dorsal antenna mast.  I'm gonna have to find a replacement or make one somehow.

Anyway, here's where Miss Marilyn is at:

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure to drop your two cents into the bucket on your way out the door.

Cheers!

Hey Guys,

Well, I think I am done with Old Crow. This was my first attempt at a natural metal finish, and although it was a rough adventure at times, I think it turned out pretty well. I am always looking for critique to help me strive to be as good as you all are. I appreciate the wonderful help many of you gave in this journey. Most of all I hope Bud Anderson would like it to.

Best Regards,

George

1st attempt? Wow! That looks great! I've been working on my NMF technique for years. I should probably just hang up my airbrush.

Thanks O! Believe me, I feel like I have a lifetime of experience wrapped up in this one model! Sanding, priming, spraying, fixing, re-priming, re-scribing due to layers of primer, touch ups, etc...I learned a lot and am very lucky it finished the way it did. Alclad is tempermental if the primer is not like glass, but I think it was worth it in the end. I do believe I will do another one some day...but not next probablyBig Smile.

Wow George, very nice Yes. Stunning build my man!!! I don't believe I can give you any advice, you should be giving me advice. That is a build I would be very proud of and show at a contest.
Cody will get you up on the wall as soon as he can. He has been very busy as of late. I will update the roster though.
The build still has 6 1/2 months left, wow wait, a year sure went fast!!! Well anyway, the build is going until the end of July, so if you want to jump in with another, your welcome to.

Finally getting started on Miss America.  MC said that he found out the pit was a light gray, so I just went with all interior areas the same.  Gloss Gull Gray, witll brush some contrasting colors to pick out details and use the kit IP decal.  Planning on painting the red white and blue and just using the stars and small decals from the sheet.  Click on tghe pic to take you to the gallery for the rest.

Thanx for the compliment. But my interior is nothing compare to that bird. You paint work is sweet. And not to disappoint but for the most part the exterior of the Mustang is going to be solid color with some black accents. It's going to have aftermarket rims that are either going to be black with an accent color to match the body or black with a chrome lip. haven't quite decided on that yet

It's very obvious that I didn't take the time to sand between the paint and the glass coat. I'm still learning about these things & that daylight red paint doesn't help at all. It's extremely gritty and I don't know if it's the paint, because the paint is old, if my mixture of paint and thinner was off, or if it was my airbrushing techniques that caused it. However the product that I am using for my glass coat is awesome. I mean look at that shine. and I haven't even polished or buffed it yet! Do you factor in affordability and it's like a second to none. At least in my experience which I know is very limited.

Also guys, I was having a thought yesterday. I was thinking about painting one of my remaining Mustangs in a p51 Mustang fighter scheme. So to all of you who are dabbling in the world war 2 fighter scene I am seeking advice in every aspect of that idea from colors to patterns to markings. As of the moment I kind of have a picture in my head.

Kuyzo,
No I wasn't the janitor LOL, I was an electrician and worked on the high voltage cabinets which contained the high voltage (10,000 V) contacts and 1/0 cabling.
As far a glass coat or the high gloss coat, and I may not be the best one to give advice on this, but I always wet sand the previous coats with something like 2000 grit. It tends to knock down the rough areas and makes the next coat a little smoother.

That would be cool. Some of the better 51 markings, IMHO, are the blue nosed Stangs.

Ok. So for the Mustang (car) with a WWII paint scheme on it I think I'm either going to use this '06 Shelby GT-H I have here or I'll buy this '71 Mustang kit I saw that I was already plotting on. Maybe even do both, we'll see

Thanks Kyuzo! I appreciate the feeback. I can't wait to see your Mustang done! I would be scared to attempt a car at this point. Getting that gloss paint done right must be tough. Some day I will give it a go for sure.

George
