Cliff, I will be posting some pics of the 109 tomorrow as I've made quite a bit more progress. Right now however it's time to let my dog out before a short read in bed and at least 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep!

Sounds good guys! I've been trying to lose a little weight myself. When it gets hot out I drink a lot of soft drinks and and have switched to diet but it doesn't seem to have much good so far though. 

Jim and Mike: I was hoping to see more work on your choppers and 109, don't keep me in suspense! 

Good for you Jim!  I am still working on my weight loss as well.  It is true, the more you loose, the harder it gets.

Just don't get caught hunting any lions!  LOL!

Still here as well. Lots of summer stuff here as well, plus time spent walking and riding the bike to get some more weight off! Seems the more you lose, the harder it gets as your body becomes more efficient, and requires fewer calories! Whew! I'm stuggling to make progress at this point.

I also did a 3 day trip out to the plains to catch up on some fishing a few weeks ago and may go again this weekend!

The other thing that occupied my time was a class I took in hunter safety. I have no current plans on becoming a hunter anytime soon but it did teach a lot about safe gun handling and responsible gun ownership. Plus if I ever do decide to take that step to be a hunter, this is a part of the process. The class included 2 sessions I had to attend in person and an on-line class that took the evenings of the better part of a week.

I guess I couldn't forget my Blackhawk ride, so I ordered this:

It's more of a utility version with weapons, rather than the search-and-rescure on I was on. No problem! I like 'em armed!

In the meantime, been plugging away here and there at the Huey:

The rotor isn't fastened yet, and the masking is still in place on those upper tinted glazing. Trying to get her painted up,

Mmmmm.... Just for fun, how does the Hawk compare to the Huey for size....

Well, one step forward, two steps back. I painted the darker color after the two lighter one yesterday and wouldn't you know, it's too dark......so I stripped it all off save for the underside and will start again. I ran out of RLM 75 so ordered more from sprue bros. This weekend I'll try again.

Bummer Mike, I know how aggravating that is to do something over again.  Hopefully the second time will go easier.

Your 109 is starting to look like a 109!   

It is really looking good.      Big time bummer on the antenna.  I agree as well.  That should be a part that is separate from the molded part.

Hey guys, getting more done on my '109. I primed and painted the light blue yesterday, then did my RLM 75 today. Had a setback when I clumsily broke the antenna attach point on the vertical stab. I'm going to drill a small hole where it attached and cannibalize from my spares. I wish they would leave small pointy things like that off the molds and give a separate piece instead. I knew that was going to happen! I still have to apply the last camouflage color which will require some masking and a very steady hand. Wish me luck!

Sorry to say, it's been hot and when I come home from work I've been turning on the AC and collapsing for a good nap. The Hellcat is about 99% done and I can't seem to get over the final hump there.

Ken: My current airbrush is a Grex of the same model, the XG. A few years ago I soaked it overnight in some mild solvent to clear out some paint and it dissolved the inner seals! The brush still works but leaks paint back into the body and is a bit of trouble to clean. Then the other day I noticed the head was dinged up so it didn't want to spray straight. Looking at the Grex site for replacement parts I noticed they'd made a bunch of improvements to this one- the XGi so I just went ahead and ordered the new brush. I mean I've painted probably a hundred or more models with the last one so I guess I can justify buying a new one eh!?!

Just a quick update on from the work bench. As I said, it's been a bit of work here and there, but some progress has been made.

In the meantime, I can't wait for October! I've wanted to go to an airshow so bad, and the last one here in Denver was a nightmare! The Thunderbirds are scheduled to perform in Grand Junction in October and I am going! This is a 4 hour drive from here, so I reserved a room for a couple of days just outside the airport. I will head out Friday morning, so I can be there Saturday morning bright and early! It will be a nice little mini-vacation trip! I just hope there will be no weather surprises as this is Colorado!

Too bad we don't live closer together.  It would be nice to go to an airshow with someone.  I went last year to the one in Dayton by myself.  I enjoyed the trip, but doing it alone got boring pretty quick.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand the pitot tube since it's tiny but the whole friggin' prop??? And it was with the Hellcat prop the last time I saw it so how did it vanish by itself???

Anyway my new airbrush came today and I wanted to take photos of it while it was still new and shiny with no paint splattered over it!

Nice score there Cliff!  You will have to let us know how well it works.

I haven't shot anything since I was a kid, guess I should brush up as crazy as things are getting. Seems like the Crazy Train just keeps picking up more steam.

I laid down the final matte finish on the Hellcat yesterday. There is a weird white stain on the nose I want to carefully airbrush out and then to the clear parts and cross your fingers I'll be done and ready to post photos! Somehow the prop and the pitot tube have vanished off the Wildcat, hopefully they'll show up before too long so I can finish her too.

I have my fingers crossed for you Cliff.  I hope the prop and pitot tube show up!

 Couldn't agree more with you on the gun issue Dave. The inconsiderate, irresponsible neighbor is a whole different story. Usually people like that are difficult to approach and even harder to reason with. As you suggested, better to let the zoning board handle that can of worms!

On a lighter note I've been making slow progress on the 109; mostly because as others have stated, it's difficult to find time during the summer months. Anyhow, here's a couple of pics. the cockpit took a lot of time due to the copious amount of PE. The only snag I've hit thus far is getting the wing to fuselage join to close up; hence the tape. Other than that, it seems to be a great model.

Yellow 6 is my choice; it's the mount of Ofw. Alfred Surau. He was shot down and killed on 14 Oct. 1943. It will have yellow on the spinner and under the radiator. With a black spiral on the nose. Along with that it's got "eyes" painted on the beule , however I'm adding them later for ease of painting. Thanks for the kind words.
