Couldn't agree more with you on the gun issue Dave. The inconsiderate, irresponsible neighbor is a whole different story. Usually people like that are difficult to approach and even harder to reason with. As you suggested, better to let the zoning board handle that can of worms!

On a lighter note I've been making slow progress on the 109; mostly because as others have stated, it's difficult to find time during the summer months. Anyhow, here's a couple of pics. the cockpit took a lot of time due to the copious amount of PE. The only snag I've hit thus far is getting the wing to fuselage join to close up; hence the tape. Other than that, it seems to be a great model. 

Jim, we are living in dangerous and 'interesting' times....better to have a firearm and not need it than to not have one and REALLY need it!!  Sounds like your neighbor would benefit from your local zoning office, to 'encourage him' to clean up his act...........nice looking magazine, BTW!

Just checking in. I've piddled here an there on the models, but haven't made any great strides to report. Much of my time seems to be spent on various activities, including a re-interest in an activity that I've dipped into a little of the years, shooting and firearms. Not hardcore, nor do I intend to go out and blow Bambi away away anytime soon. Just as a sport. As if I needed another interest to occupy my time (and money!). Then there is all the other things, such as yard work, house chores, biking and walking to combat weight issues, and occasional fishing trips. Maybe winter will be the time we all return to the workbenches, when the cold winds blow and snow falls....

Did run across an interesting special addition mag on my grocers news stand....

When you get a chance to read through your new publication, please give us a review.  You know I will be very interested in getting a copy if it is worth the money!

I will also admit to having other motivations for this interest, first being the whole political situation and gun control, which I won't debate here. The other being the fact that the neighborhood I moved into over 20 years ago has seen some major changes. Although it is is a 'manufactured home' community, it was one of the more decent ones in the area. They managed the park then, having residents responsible for keeping their lots and homes maintained, bringing in street sweepers monthly, repairing streets as needed , replacing driveways, etc. Now I can look out my window and see two empty lots overgrown with weeds, with many more throughout the park. There have been 3 drug distribution issues on my block, one of which is my neighbor, who is now a two time loser.  The second time was a parole violation. He is also a junk collector, and at one point had 7 lawnmowers, a number of bicycles and other crud along the fence next to my yard. I won't even mention the VW bug parked behind his shed. There is a house down the street that there are no less than 9 people living in.

I keep a gun now because......?.

Just checking in with a quick update. I've been pretty busy at work and fell a little behind in my build but just finished glueing the fuselage together after toiling away with PE in the cockpit. I'll post some pics this week as time permits. So far this one is going together well albeit with a few minor setbacks. Hope everyone's doing well on their projects and having fun on this GB. I always enjoying seeing the progress here.

Gamera, I know what you mean!  My buddies taught me the trick of setting up a team even while just playing by myself.  That way you don't have to listen to the idiots....although it is fun some times to talk smack......LOL

It's funny; after 18 years of being on the job, I finally got my Taser last October.......luckily, I haven't had to use it (yet).  Hope it stays that way!

Dave, it is actually an Italeri kit, though I have seen it boxed as a Tamiya kit as well. Hard to say the origin of the kit. I've had it for probably 20 years.

Thanks for the big welcome back!! I have truly missed the comradeship found here in the forums!

Ken- my model is the Monogram A-1H Skyraider in 1/48th scale.  It will be mostly out of the box and in Special Operations Wing SEA camo from Vietnam.  I have some ancient decals that i hope will work.  I'll also be building an Esci A-1H in South Vietnamese colors at the same time....that kit is pretty rough and has been a bit of a challenge.Ken, this will also be a crossover to the Vietnam USAF build.

Gamera - I hear you on the video/computer games.  My personal addiction is Xbox Live's "World of Tanks,"  also a great beer and pretzels game.

Jim - Great work on the Huey; is that the Monogram kit?  If it is, my hats off to you!  Had to take a stab at improving my 'marketability' by getting in a few college classes before my GI Bill expires or gets taken away by budget cuts.  Hope to eventually be a history teacher somewhere and get away from the law enforcement field all together.  I'm getting too old to be wrestling guys half my age, or younger!  They keep getting younger and more dangerous, and I just get older and more beat up!  But for now, I'm holding my own......

Hey Jim the chopper looks terrific! I've gotten to always masking and spraying canopies, I can't get a straight line otherwise to save my own life. Good to hear your hand is on the mend too.

I've been inside more though in the A/C- it got up to 94 degrees yesterday. I mowed part of the lawn and that was it for me!

BTW: The game is Order of Battle: Pacific and it's a 'beer and pretzels' type wargame- not too complicated. Seems I don't have the patience I used to have back when I was younger.

Well, slowly the hand is healing, though it is still sore! The cuts are closed up ok, but the picture that attacked me was fairly heavy and there was bruising as well!

Seems a lot of us are finding it hard to be able to sit down ans work at the bench, esp. with summer being here and all that. My weekends have been all about trimming overgrown trees and multiple trips to the city recycle center to drop the cut branches off. Then there is still the usual yard work, house work, work work, etc. etc. Then getting out for walks and bike rides...

Even weeknights I find projects, like tonight I sat down with my .22 caliber 'plinker', doing a thorough cleaning and replacing a couple of parts inside that just arrived today! Watch out tin cans! I'm ready for ya!

I did sit down here and there at the bench and got some work done on the 'Huey'! As you can see, some parts of it have been pre-painted. The windows on top have been covered with parafilm for now. The wind shield and top are not cemented yet.

One thing I'm trying to do is paint those wipers. Hand painting just made a mess, so I experimented with actually masking and spraying them! I only did the blades for nor to see if it would work. The center pillar gets painted and I will also paint the edges of the clear part so you wont see that annoying edge through the glass.

The Skyraider is cool, I've been playing a wargame set in the Pacific that includes the invasion of Japan (Operation Downfall) and in 1946 you get to upgrade to stuff that missed the war like the Douglas Destroyer and Martin Mauler- seems the Skyraider was the only one out of that batch that wasn't sorta a dud. Yesterday I took the Imperial Palace with Marines backed up by T29 heavy tanks and ended the war, interesting stuff there.  

Wow! Sounds complicated! I haven't been into too many games lately. If I do, it's usually something where I get to go in and shoot a lot of stuff!

Holy cow Jim, your luck seems to be all bad recently; at least the models looking good! As far as those yellow jackets; they're born mean and just get more so. I don't mind bees too much as they usually don't bother you if you don't bother them but wasps and jackets seem to always be looking for a fight. I slaughter them wherever I find them!

Ken, you're so right about needing more than one day off.This weekend I'm going to get my 2 days regardless of the work load; someone else can ruin their weekend not me! I did get the interior of my plane painted RLM 66 this evening and should be able to start putting on the photo etch stuff before work tomorrow. At least I'm making some progress. Well, time for a cup of herbal tea and then some shut eye.

Ahhhh! I swear the stupidest crap happens to me! I went to the hobby room, actually a spare bedroom, to do some work! I visited the bathroom and when I came out, I saw the closet door was partially open. I went to push it shut, but there was something blocking it. I gave it another shove and jarred loose a metal framed picture I had on the door! It fell, hitting my hand and opened a small gash in the back of my hand! It was a little deep, but I was able to close it with a butterfly bandage!

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Now I am wounded in the hobby room! I thought this was a safe hobby!

Good progress on the chopper Jim. I did a Huey a while back and painted the rear interior a grey and red. That's what the directions called for though they may not have been accurate they looked cool that way so I left them as is. Your's looks quite realistic and as Ken and others mentioned the detail is great!

My weekend was a wash as far as getting anything done on the 109 as I had to work on Sat. and Sun. was yard work. By the time I finished with the outdoor stuff I was too tired and sweaty to do anything more than shower and drink a couple beers. Made myself some tacos for dinner and took the dog for a walk. Now it's bedtime so hopefully this week I can get back to my airplane!
