I may as well admit it, To myself as well as everyone here. I am a little intimidated by the B-52. I've had the box open a couple of times, but then I put every thing back in the box and put it away.

I guess, I'll just have to clean off my desk and get it out and throw some glue and some paint at it. Geeked

Okkkkk! A bit of background first. I worked on F-15's at Robins AFB, Georgia for a few years both USAF and Civil Service and have seen them stripped down to just a carcus. Then put back together, tested, then hearing one taking off for a test flight with the accompanying sonic boom later knowing another job well done. Soooooo hehehe when I opened up these kits and compared them, hands down went with the Italeri kit as the details were more accurate. The vertical stab tip bullets are scale being one larger than the other and correct size. Close enough to right engine nozzles, much better looking seats and relief moulded office panels. Hobby Boss may be a quicker build, however, slab/decal office panels, engine nozzles that haven't been used on these birds since the 70's (yes the turkey feathered ones) and one piece bang seats. The vertical tip bullets are almost the same size, and the kit has very crisp and clean mouldings, Italeri must have had a heating problem when injecting theirs but as I said is more accurate. Anyway lol here are the current pics and the parts tag of the Desert Storm vet of 49 missions that I am doing that I worked on post war. Enjoy!

88-1683, the stamping machine didn't have enough spaces.

That would be awesome!

I'm going to have to ask my buddy to send me the picture again. He had it posted on FB a couple of weeks ago and now it isnt there. I'll see what I can get, its worth finding it for sure! It showed the birds from the 391st, 389th FS's and the 428th FS F-15SG from Singapore.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

Ken,
at 1/72, that B-52 must have a wingspan of what? 3 Feet or so? That in itself would intimidate me.
Simplot,
with as close as you worked with the 15E, you should know.
Hopefully Jelliott can get another copy of that flight line pic. You probably would like it as well.

The real B-52 has a wing span of 185 feet. so at 1/72 scale, it would be 30.8 inches. If I did the conversion right. For some reason, I felt brain dead today. Or would that be drain bed. LOLIndifferent

I have no idea where I'm going to put it when its done. It looks like I might have to hang from the ceiling. I have the 72 scale Submarine on the entertainment center and the 48 scale PBY Catalina on a book case. I do have another book case. Maybe I can put it up there.

I was just guessing. I haven’t the foggiest on how to figure scales. That is a big kit. I've always wanted to build the B-36, but I would need to buy stock in Alclad and have a place to put it if I did.

Simpilot, nice start on the eagle.

greentracker, I would love to see some photos of your B-52 kit, that thing must be huge!

I was away on vacation for the last week, I'm back but off too work.

I did manage to fix a few spots on the paint that I messed up. Sanded and repainted.

It's VERY black! and very shiny. So much so that its hard to get a good photo.

I'll hit it with semi matt after the decals are on.

Welcome back Mach. Yeah you may need to tone that gloss down after the decals. That may blind the pilot.

Got Crackin on the AWACS, Trying to juggle this and another couple group builds

I did the normal gluing the halves together and adding the wings. I filled the seams with putty to hallow them out because they were rather deep. I added the side array antennas, nose and tail sensors which I purchased thru Contrails models. I had to sand and shape the side antennas to match closer the profile of the real deal. It will look much better once paint is applied. I am in the process of sealing gaps and working the flaps and slats.

Simpilot,

Would you, by any chance, have pics of F-15s stripped down? Might make a good modeling subject.

Mach,

Could be you're having difficulty taking pics because, well, it's stealthy? Nice job, btw.

B_One,

Really shaping up. Very interested in your build. Got an Italeri KC-135A in my stash and will use your build as reference in the future.

Sorry Allen no such luck with pics of that sort. indeed it would make a very interesting project. I can tell you that the primer color in the area where the wings attach to the fuse is very close to the metallic green seen on Japanese planes of WWII.

I finished the chopper, I think. I'm not calling it done yet though. I'm doing a base for it, plus I have on order 2 wounded men for it. Yes, I know the pics are dark. I'll have better ones when its finished. I ended up deleting some pics then this post disappeared on me and I had to start all over again.Tongue TiedBang Head

simpilot, nice start. I currently work at RAF Lankenheath so I am getting rather fond of F-15's, looking forward to seeing more of this.

Ken, i know what you mean. I first bult one 20 or so years ago. I have the wings and fuselage together and ll apinted but then put it to one side simply because i had no where to display it. It is a bit awkward to work on, but iam sure you will have fun with it.

thanks Bish! Yeah I've worked on a few LN birds when they came in for overhaul. Brother did a couple TDYs over there when the 111s were there.

Now those where the days. The F-111's were a common site over my home when I was a lot younger. Its largely why those and the a-10's are my favourite modern aircraft. But the 15's are growing on me.

RAF Lakenheath brings back good memories! I used to fly into there in the '80s.

The F-111 was one impressive aircraft. Does LN have straight F-15s or the E strike model?

Last known to me, they had compliments of both C and E's. But my knowledge is dated lol. Yes the Aardvark was very impressive! You should have seen the Aussies do their demo! The dump and burn being a trademark.

Yeah Bish those were the days!! My brother used to work on the 111 and A-10 at McClellan AFB when we lived there. Then years later when I joined the USAF I ended up working on the F-15, amongst others.

Got some progress happening. Got the bang seats done installed, and office together. Tub also attached to lower fuse. Wanted to button up the fuse but was getting late. So look for a few more pics in a couple days. Anyways here they areToast

Sidepanels aren't spot on, just something to look the part to busy them up a bit.

Thanks MC! When I get around to doing a D model or earlier one day, am going to add skin patches and other things that I have done before. One I know about weasel a little bracket behind the outer skin just aft of the intakes that often had a patch on the outside where a hole was made for easier access.

Steve, I'm back but I'm in a modelling slump. I dunno, it's like writer's block, but, with model building. So, with my epic fail on my 707, i'm gonna take it back to basics and try to knock off a 1/72 P-26 Peashooter to try to get over this slump. A (hopefully) nice quick build, get the juices flowing, then take on another airliner. I've got my eye on a nice 747 at the LHS I may get. Anyway, plz put me down for a Revell(G) Boeing P-26 Peashooter 1/72. Cheers...Indifferent

Welcome back buddy, I was wondering about you just today. I updated the roster to the Peashooter.
You'll get out of the slump, sometimes I need to watch something like Great Planes or Wings on YouTube to get in the mood. It took me a couple weeks to get going after my move as well.

Got a great start on the Peashooter. Here's the familiar to lots box:

Extremely low part count and very basic construction. Not bad detail. All raised, but that's to be expected on this old 1982 kit:

Blue and yellow went on easy enough:

Gonna leave it with these coast of Future and start decals tomorrow:
