Tempestjohhny,

I like the camo paint job. You are thinking about it all wrong. You are not three weeks late, you got it done on Jan 50th!!

Cheers

Chris

Aaron and all, I have not forgotten this. I have completed all but the decals. I had to work the last 6 days of January, which was unexpected. I will do the decals wednesday or thrusday and post pictures and a little 'What I Learned' commentary

Chris,

Looks great, and don't worry, I think we all can never consider a project completely done, I know every time I look at my display, I see in my mind things that can be added or improved, its part of the fun.

Thanks to Aaron and the FSM staff for hosting this GB and allowing us another way to be in touch with those who work on the magazine.

Cheers,

Scott

Howdy All,

Whew!  Just in time, I finished at the deadline 35 January!  Noithing like waiting until the last minute!

I call her done now. Sure there are improvements I could make, but I figure I can learn on the next model.  Never did get the fuselage decals to settle down even with microsol.  It helped but just not enough.

Had a great time, thanks to A. Skinner for hosting.

Cheers

Chris

I'll second that sentiment.  Even though time ran out on me, I'll put up a couple of pics of the BUFF when done.

Unfortunately I was beaten by own challenge and only completed the wing and cockpit on the Spitfire. (Month wasn't a complete loss as I did finish four other models, but that's another story.)

On the other hand, Elizabeth mostly finished her Seaview in time. It'll be getting a little detail painting later.

Mark Hembree had some fun finishing the Dragon 1/72 scale Flakpanzer:

And whilst poor fits and missing parts almost defated him, Mark Savage just about finished the IndyCar in time.

Mostly we had a good time spending more time in the FSM workshop and plan to make it a regular occurence.

I hope everyone else enjoyed the GB. I'll get a badge up today or tomorrow for everyone who finished.

Cheers, Aaron

I have to call it on my Airfix multi pose British Infantryman too, as its already Feb 1 here. I had a two week vacation and came back ill, so I've only just started back with things now.

I'll move it over tothe SHelf of Doom GB, so I can finish it off.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Howdy All, I have call it, the Wildcat will not be done by tonight. So sad. I'll finish her this weekend assuming I can get what I need delivered by then. The two fuselage national insignia have not layed down at all, wrinkled and not even close to conforming to the small raised lines or rivets. Also my first attempts at stretching sprue (something i thought was going to be easy) have been un-good and I am running out of good sprue to try with! I stripped (used rubbing alcohol) the windscreen and just went back to my childhood and hand painted the thing and glued it on. So sad I didn't get it done, too many unforced errors and setbacks, but I am finishing a model! First one in over 3 decades! I also tried some new tools and skills so a good deal all around. In the spirit of this GB, I plan to complete at least four plastic models this year and a few model rockets. First up after the Wildcat is a 1/35 Renault FT-17 in the ongoing centary celebration of tanks. Cheers to all, had a great time Chris

Well, no chance of finishing this one on time.  My fault.  Started too late.  Then broke the canopy in half.  I will finish it but I won't rush it in the one remaining day.  If we are going again, I'm in and I will start immediately this time!

Great work and congrats to all those who finished.

In short, I have come up short!  A week out of town on business and another week spent working on review items for another site put me in a predicament such that my figure is not quite finished.  This was a great motivator, and I am really impressed with the work others were able to complete.

I will photograph the stormtrooper as he is today (the figure is painted, the base is base coated only, and the accessories are painted).  I need to finish the base, attach the figure and accessories to the base, and then add appropriate weathering to my figure's clothes for a trench environment.  I will figure out how to attach photos, as it has been a while since I did that on this site.

V737D

sorry everyone I was typing in haste before bed time, I don't know what PFM is either! I meant to type out Pledge Future! Someday I'll need to fix the mangled and cracked iPad mini screen,

Cheers

Chris

Right, so the canopy has a layer of future, and you want to clean off some risidual masking agent.  I wouldn't suggest anything harsher than a cotton stick dipped in water, and don't even try warm water.  I find the Future product is not as resilient as it once was.  You can also try a tooth pic for areas along window framework.

------------------------

William, good job on the figs.  Yes  Now you're all set to create a dio.

----------------------

Still a few hours to go before deadline, but will have to announce my entry won't finish in time.  Just don't want to rush things any more, otherwise stupid things, murphy's law et al tend to happen:

I had four markings to fix as the decals tore from being delicately masked with tape, but the above was the worst of the bunch.  I've had the torn pieces soaking in water all night as they are stuck onto tape.

Otherwise, quite happy with how my homemade decals turned out for the kill markings and fuselage codes.

The undersides also had codes, but in photos they appear to have been painted over with a darker paint - these too were made with decals.  If you look closely, you might be able to see some semblance of the individual  lettering  - SGGW.

regards,

Jack

dwsrazor, great looking  KV monster. Yes

I've also had the same experience with earth pigments going red in digital photos - but yours still looks fine.

-------------------------

V737D, wildcat is really looking god.  Wish I could help answer your question, but unfamiliar with PFM.

Congrats to everyone who is finishing up.

I've been working on mine and have the interior done, painted the exterior, and clear coated it and decaled it. then tonight I started Ultra Bright Chrome Bare Metal Foil.

Question????? Is anyone else having trouble with the foil. It doesn't want to stick. Did they get cheap with the glue on it? I've painted Testors Chrome before and was never satisfied with it.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Well, calling this done.  The pigments look really red in the photos but not so much in person.  I was hoping to get some stowage and a base on this thing but I am ready to move on at this point.

Thanks for looking in!Propeller

Howdy All,

Thanks for the complement BranonD!

Got the Wildcat decaled (there were not too many) I think I need a stronger decal solution as it looks like some silverinmg going on.  The starts on the fuselage don't seem want to lay down over the surface details.

I don't think I'm going to finsh on time.  I only have a few hours after work and I need to coat the plane with PFM and then an overall flat or matte spray.  Not time for both tomorrow.

As a quick question (no time for research given the deadline or I wouldn't ask) how would y'all remove the leftover sticky stuff from my canopy after removing the Bare Metal Foil masking?  I painted acrylic over PFM

Anyway good luck to all the fellow straglers out there!

Cheers

Chris
