I don't think I'm going to get finished on time.  Problem being, I broke the canopy in half while masking it.  Held up the painting stage.  I wasn't able to source a new canopy until late today.  I will press on, but I may be a day late.  So many stencils.....

After seeing this thread I owe Aaron a BIG apology. I didn't even know this one was going on and it's nice to see the mods active and involved with the forum. I may just have to join one of these. Now to pick out something that will only take a month......That's gonna be a toughy.

Doug : It's great to see you. I wondered where you had gotten off to.

Howdy All,

BadLanguage I hope you know how all those parts go together! I know how it would end if it were mine!

Sooooo much better today, pretty good progress made.  Going to let the paint dry just a bit longer than I will spray it with PFM so I can decal and do touch up tomorrow after work.  Right now washed and wx will be the last thing done if at all.  Both wont bother me as the first pastic model kit completion since senior year of High School!

Painting the recognition lights straight from the bottle was a mistake, should have known better, those will be dulled if I can.  Tried to free hand the demarcation line but it was about 70% effective.  I need to play more with my new airbrush as I think the air pressure was too high for what I wanted.  Fine line control was OK.  Need a better model holder, something above and beyond my left hand!

Cheers

Chris

More progress....painted the upper/lower wing sections as well as the fuselage and vertical stabilizer.

More to follow.....after some touch ups.

Chris, that sucks. Like you said not as bad as the RV on fire, but sucky still. I hope you recover and finish up!

I'm hoping I'll get finished up too. I should be able to! I buffed the magnesium parts yesterday, and dullcoated the dark blue parts to match the flat of the cobalt blue. I was really shocked at how flat the cobalt blue turned out to be, but that's the finish I was looking for anyway so no problems there:

I also sprayed aluminum plate on a few other parts:

Those need to be buffed. I'll probably do a light wash on some of the metal parts, as well as some detail painting. But I should be able to start actually assembling tonight, I hope!

Howdy All,

I see many who are completing thier builds (jealous) with very nice finishes/decals.

I however have suffered a few modeling diasaters (all self inflicted) starting Last Sunday. My paint booth is outside as the weather here is mild in the winter someone if a day or two is bad for painting you just wait a bit. Well with work schedules M-F I figured I had at leat get the Wildcat in primer. Oh, did I mention the 45mph winds? Basically had the compressor sitting on a foldable picnic table and using an old dog comfortor as a pad, turned my back for a second and woooooosh comfortor, compressor and the Wildcat parts just flipped right on over. I saved the paint jar.

Wildcat unscathed, compressor px adjustment lock knob broken, px gauge broken, supply hose (plastic fittings) broken.

Oh, first primer coat, horrible I way overthinned it. Very runny almost water, so it ran and hid in all the panel lines.

No one in "after work drive to and get home for six hours of sleep" distance has airbrush supplies. Amazon mail order.

The end result is going to be interesting as what is going to be the end versas what I envisioned when I joined the GB, not even close. I'll see what can be done, luckily acrylics dry fast!

In perspective my weekend is still better than the poor *** I passed on the way back from buying a new px gauge whose RV trailer went up in flames and took his truck with it. Just sad.

Fingers crossed I get done

again , Congratulations to all who have finished

Cheers

Chris

Hi Doug, sweet build of the Dora. Yes

Wouldn't worry about the lack of progress picks, given that the FSM staffers only have the one  post from their whole crew.

Jack

Afternoon all... I've finally finished... Need to explain lack of pictures, I was at the applying decal stage and went to dowm load pictures and for some reason only a few had taken, not sure if it was a camera issue or memory card fault. I replaced memory card and am keeping my fimngers crossed... Any way, here is what I salvaged, I'll do better the next time.

Well, again, sorry for the lack of pictures, The kit again is a Fujimi, 1/48 Fw190 - D All paint is Model Master Acrylics. Decals are various spares from past builds. Pretty much OOB. Thanks, and looking forward to the next time. Doug (RR)

Jack, Bish, Theuns, dwsrazor and Jeaton - thanks for the kind words. It's a fun little kit.

Jack - that 109 is looking great. Love the yellow nosed birds.

Bobby - great job on the I-16s!

Hi Bobby, looks like a very good job on that pair of seasonal Ishaks.  Yes

--------------------------------

I'm at the painting stage on the 109f ...

After primer, I looked over for any final fixes.  The riveted strips that I scratch built on the wing roots need further attention.  The one on the fuselage was too prominent, so that need sanding down.

Main colours are blocked in.  Fuselage sides need mottling, and I need to create my own decals for both the rudder kill markings and the delivery codes - originally in black, but they were wiped off after delivery.

... and some further clean up on the exhausts:

Just some excess plastic needs removing between each stub.

regards,

Jack

Hey Bish, thank you sir! Yeah, they are pretty small.  I'm going to take a pic of them on the shelf.  They will be with 1/48 Stukas, 109, and a Do-335!  It is a funny site to see, especially next to the 335!

I painted my light blue parts with cobalt blue. Sorry, my pics are blurry!

Getting there. I should make some good progress this weekend.

What a fun GB and what awesome work!  Very inspiring everyone!

Well, I'm calling them done.  It was fun doing both at the same time.  If I'm honest, I'm not crazy about either kit (fit issues and lack of detail mostly), but they were fun and they turned out well I think.  First time I did an aircraft with skids!  Very cool looking on the shelf!  The I-16 is a perfect little plane to start my Russian WWII collection off with.  I'll be doing a Yak-3 next!  Hope you enjoy the pics!

Thanks Aaron for hosting the GB!  It was great!  Can't wait to see what your next one will be.

Ok, it's wrapped!

This is of course the 1/48 Hobbycraft French Hawk 75. It's out of the box except for the seat, which is a resin one I had lying around.

Colors are:

Tamiya Flat Brown
Model Master French Dark Blue Gray
Model Master French Khaki (the green on the topside)
Model Master French Light Blue Gray

The tricolor on the tail is Model Master Intermediate Blue, Insignia White and Insignia Red.

I used some Vallejo pigments, streaking effects and engine oil for weathering, along with Vallejo chipping fluid for the wing root (not the biggest fan, but it works when you get it spraying right). I also used oil dot filtering with some artists' oils and some ground up pastel chalks.

Thanks for having me inthis group build. I hope you like it. The top photo is fine for the front page.
