I finished the assembly and painting of the voyager probe today.  I have only to spray it with flat clear and finish the display base.

Bish, it was -15F last night, didnt get above 1F today and we have about 2 feet of snow and 6-10 more inchs expected today and tomorrow. My garage is where I have to paint and its hard to keep it at 30F and the humidity is 75%+ most days lately. If all I had to do was heat the garage it would be doable, but the weather has me busy dealing with edlerly partents and thier needs and lack of mobility and dealing with my own snow removal and ice dams on the roof. This winter is one for the record books.

I'm west of BK, out in the valley between the Cascades and Coast Range in Oregon.  Fri. morning was 14*F.  Today a 1/4 inch of ice and freezing rain, 4 inches of snow on top of it and nowmore freezing rain.  East of the Cascades the past couple of days has been below 0*F, and I think even colder the further east you go.

Now thats chilly. The worst we have had is about -4C

The modeling gods are just not with me right now. The extreme cold has everything not working or cooperating and the weather with all the snow has just about brought life to a stand still.

I have to withdraw from this build; there simply is no way I can work on any kits for the next few weeks cuz I just can't paint. I am at a stand still.

BK

How cold has it got there. It can get cold enough here they i stick to spraying at the weekend so i can do it early in the day, especially if i am useing Acrylics, thoguh the biggest issue is often the damp.

Got the fuselage closed up and gluing the wings up.  Prelim sanding on the fuselage done and ready for a little filler in a couple of spots.  Wings will need more in a couple of seams on the undersides as can be seen from the flaps out.

Aaron, I was yestrerday handed a Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk8 to build for a friend. I intend to build it this month if all goes to plan.

Would it be OK if I change my entry from the 1/72 Hurricaine to the Tam 1/32 Spitty please?

Thanx

Sorry to hear that Bruce. It’s horrible when disease and illness strike families. You and your family have my prayers.

I wasn’t able to work on the carrier for a few days but caught up some today, so here she is so far. I have to paint the Deck Blue and Sea Blue camo and finish the Mitchels.
My vision will be having one taking off, flaps down, while the rest are waiting.

Wow! lots of fantastic progress on these builds!

Unfortunately, I will have to back out of this group build. I just found out my Father-in-Law has Cancer. He's a four hour trip from our home, so we will be traveling a lot and I don't expect to get any modeling done in the next month.

I would like to thank Aaron and the rest of the FSM staff for hosting this group build! There are a lot of diverse subject, should be a really fun finish to this GB! Good luck to all!

Lots of builds making progress, that's great.

More progress on the Airfix Meteor F.8 as well.  The fuselage was joined, that required reducing the width of the two gun magazine frames, the fuselage didn't want to close up around the cockpit until I took some material off.  I'm building it with the gun doors closed, but I wonder how well the guns would fit if a person were to choose to install them.  I can't see any way that the cockpit tub could be assembled with any less width.  Seam cleanup on the fuselage was very easy.

The wings were assembled and the horizontal stabilizers were installed.  No issues to report.  The wing was test fit to the fuselage and a gap was going to be possible there.  This was because the fuselage is a thin shell and the sides wanted to flex in along the gap over the wing.  I made a sprue spreader, a little oversize at first, and kept sanding it down a little until the fuselage would just fit between the upper wing roots.  Everybody seems happy now.

The engines have been partially assembled and painted.  I will do a wash on the inlet screens before I complete the assembly of the engines.

Hi All

I'm making some Headway on my 65 Impala. I think maybe doing the Impala Convertible first helped as they are the same chassis and running gear. Anyway here's a couple of pics of my progress so far. I was having a real hard time getting the paint to come out right when I used lacquer. I loive the way it looks, but it's tough to get right.

Wayne, You better watch those critters back there. they look mighty PO'd with each other. if they get to close they 'll destroy your tractor. That looks like it would be a cool kit to do. Every ones is coming along nicely. looking great guys

Anyway, here's the paint job, minus the clear coat

I managed to "wressle" the Hurricaine's fuselage and wings on last night with loads of effort and clamps...maybe it is just me but this kit is not the same as arifix's newer quality. No matter anyway as it was basically "free" with the swordfish I was actually after :-)

Nice work on the Spitty. Is the IP painted on?

I am busy with a 1/32 Revell Spit Mk2 and not liking it, I hope the Tamiya 1/32 Spit I will start soon will make up for it LOL

Have tohost pics on an off-site place, ie. Photo Bucket, Flkr, etc.  Then you can post from there.  Down at the bottom of the main forum page, a lot of threads on posting pics.

I was too excited to wait until January to start..... slmost done with the Hs 126, but the struts broke and were different lengths, so I;m just sitting around waiting for an idea of how im going to fix it. I already cut down one that was too long, that helped a little, but both have snapped in at least two places! Will post pictures of the build when I can figure out how to upload the darn photos off the camera!

Here is my Airfix 1/72 Sea Hurricaine. It is a REALLY simple little kit, extremely basic in the detail dept but with the framing on the canopy I dont think much will be visable in the pit anyway.

The kit supplies the rear bottom fuselage arrestor hook assemby that needs to be installed after you cut a big chunck out of the fuselage halves.

Sometimes it is just fun to build these "quick and cheap" builds :-)

You might try flickr.com , photo bucket has cut way back on free storage and got to be a PITA to work with. Flickr gives you a tremendous amount of free storage and isnt too difficult to figure out. Hope that helps.

Howdy All,

(Tamiya F4F-4 in 1/48)

I am working to get photos linked (not a fan 'cloud' things but will Borg for this) small progress so far.  I have the cockpit and all other relevant bits chromate greened. Just dipped the clear parts in Future before going to bed, that is a first.

Slowly getting reaquainted with my airbrush and trying to improve the spray patterns achieved so far.

Found a shedload of detail photos online to help me paint up and maybe detail up the cockpit, firewall and gearwell. Have to go scrounge up some thin wire and very thin solder.

Cheers

OK you FSM Staffers, we're 4 days into the month and there is no proof of life!  What's up!

Out here in the hinterlands we are laboring away in John's Secret Workshop in Northern California.  The Airfix Meteor F.8 is not quite a Tamiya Standard kit, but I am having a lot of fun building it.  The difference so far is inconsequential.  It has more detail that the Tamiya F.1 and F.3 I just finished in many areas, especially the cockpit.

I have been trying to figure out how to add interest to the black cockpits of these airplanes.  This time I put on a basecoat of Alclad Aluminum ALC 101, covered that with a very thin layer of flat black enamel.  When that was set up I took a small Tamiya Q-Tip and rubbed the black off on areas I thought would be prone to wear and chipping, and followed that with an Alclad Matte clear coat.   Weight was added on the back side of the cockpit assembly, as suggested in the instructions.

I've also done most of the wing assembly.  The fits are great.

snowing and icy roads skipped IPMS meeting. rear suspension is finished. it was annoying and i ended up drilling holes and adding wire "pins". cargo compartment is done except for the fiddly stuff.

Just a little update on the 1/48 French Hawk 75.

I got the cockpit done last night. I'll be building this one with a closed canopy, so I didn't worry too much about the interior detail, as the seat will be mostly what is seen.

I was able to close the fuselage halves after this pic, and I'll work on the seams this evening. I left the seat out for now since I want to have space to work on the three-piece joint where the cockpit meets the fuselage halves.
