Yikes Guys !

Had to go back to page 35 to catch up !  We just had Noreastcon this past weekend so I've been in more of a building and clean-up mode and I haven't been posting much.  This is really a "Worker Bee's GB" !   The only thing I have to report is that I finally found a nice decal sheet (at the Noreastcon show) to replace the French decals that came with my kit.   There are several nice BoB schemes in here - gotta make a decision:

Castel - That Harvard is very nice.  An attractive scheme and a great finish.  Can you see the detail you put into the cockpit ?

Scott - Nice wood effect and Engine detail.  I take all kinds of notes on my instructions as well.

Johnny - sweet job on the camo.

Greg - I had a similar experience with a photo etched throttle quadrant on a 1/72 A-20 Havoc.  Levers ? . . . forget it !   I couldn't apply superglue in a small enough amount.   That's just crazy.

Justin - Great work so far - just a question about the dio.  It looks like there is a depression on the water side of the dam - are you thinking of actually having the bombs detonating on the backside of the dam ?

Beav - That is very nice detail work on the interior.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Looks really fine to me !

Steve - Nice finish on the flame spewer !  And a Tornado - cool.   Even MORE variety in this GB !

Bobby - Nice Bucc.  Can't wat to see what you do with this trio.

Check - hope those greenhouse canopies come out nicely - some tedious work right there.  Shucks !  I have 2 or three nicely detailed Airfix Lewis guns that were spares leftover from my Blenheims.  They give you three per kit and you only use one or two per kit.  Lemmee know if you run into probs with the resin ones.

Toshi - what a serious project. The fit looks great, The pit looks great with the electronics, The gear looks great, the bombs look great, the guns look great, and personally - with the way those covers are magnet attached - I would probably have painted over those clear parts if I was building it.   Awesome !

Chris

Thank you for the kind words.  I'm most humbled!  I will and have decided at this time to display the Mossie bare naked.

Sorry Gamera, it just didn't work.  The frosting is in side of the plastic.  Thanks for your time and info.

1:72 PE levers? My goodness. You 1:72 builders amaze me, but ...yikes, Chris. I don't blame you for taking a pass on those.

Toshi: As Bish and Crown pointed out Future can remove frosting as long as it's not too heavy. If you do put it on and want to get rid of it a little ammonia will strip Future right off.

Gentlemen, thank you for the kind coments re. Harvard. It was my first airplane in a great while and I really didn't know what to expect. My chief fier was painting the canopy frame but I guess it turned out well.

Cheers...

Here's a good example of masking.

Greg

Justin, add me to the list of those interested to see how you paint the PE blur props.

Toshi, ha re the engineer. :) But as I see it, the covers painted and sitting on the 'ground' will look more realistic than clear plastic anyway. And you do have those handy magnet mounted to take them on or off at will. Win/win?

As you can see, or cannot see, LOL!  I'm going to use the so called clear cowlings as masks for the entire Merlin then when I'm done AB the Mossie I'll simply remove the panels to show off the Merlins.

Perhaps some headlight polish would help. That cleared up a hazy canopy I had once.

No, unfortunately it's just frosted from within.  I tried polish, clear spray, etc. to no avail!  Oh well, it will be built and displayed open as is of which is still cool.  I can't be upset as I had a great time building the Mossie.

One does wounder that after putting all that effort into this kit, the clear parts are so poor. Do you think a dip in future would help.

I just can't understand with such detail, you would engineer such a ridiculous and silly part.  It's like a really bad joke!  LOL!  No, unfortunately future will not clear so to speak the clear part.  It's just frosted really bad.

Also looking forward to seeing the prop blur, Justin.  Haven't tried anything like that.

Toshi:  Unfortunate about the clear parts; still you're coping well.  One does wonder what manufacturers are thinking, sometimes.  I built an Enterprise for the Star Trek group build earlier this year, and a number of clear parts were included:  clear enough to see all the locating tabs and fixtures through them.  I ended up painting them on the outside.

I am most disappointed but as you correctly pointed out, I am most coping well.  I am sorry to hear about your issue with your Star Trek GB.

Toshi, Tamiya's engineering is generally so good it makes me think there was a reason for the cloudy clear part. If so, wonder what it is?

Castel, nice NMF. Yes

Beav, you're coming along well.

If I missed anyone it was not intentional.

yes, I agree completely, Tamiya's engineering is absolutely impecable without question.  But a cloudy clear part?  What kind of marijuana was this engineer smoking?  LOL!  LOL!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

The clear cowling looks like #%^>€£>~%^!!!  So I'm going to leave everything open.  Tamiya, this is a bad call!

Some time ago, I built a Me 262 and a SBD Dauntless.  These were visible CLEAR parts that you could see through.  For the kind of money I paid, you would thing Tamiya would be a little smarter!

P.S.  The Me 262 and the SBD Dauntless were trumpeter 1/32 kits.  Shame on you Tamiya!

I just started working on the clear parts of the clear cowling.  Utilizing CA for the magnets, I'm very careful not to get it cloudy.

Justin: Very cool, looking forward to seeing how the spinning prop PE looks.

Toshi: There was an article in FSM some years ago about the spinning prop PE but I don't remember which issue. And love how the Skitter is coming along- love the photos of the bombs and all the guns in the nose!

I'll try to look it up, thanks for the tip and the very kind comments!

im not sure how detailed a tutor there will be, but I will certainly take in progress photos!  They are just photoetched metal....
