Just a short one from me this week. I had hoped to have the top camo done and be adding the RLM 65 today. But after adding the 02 on Wed i had to do some re touching on Fri so only got it masked and the 71 on today, so its drying in the shed. But here is how it look with the 02 on.

I must say i am not to keen on these Montex masks. they don't handle curves very well. It keeps coming up along the edges. I have been pressing it down before i paint so i am hoping nothing has got underneath. Never had this problem with Eduard.

I have also assemebled the main part of the winch. The steps were a bit tricky, each one being 2 parts one to go on each side, which was not helped by me putting them on after putting the rest together.

So with the aircraft and winch together, i was able to measure out the dio and get working on the base.

A bit of old furniture with a couple of thin pieces on either side, i like the bases to be between 2.5 and 3cm thick.

And then added some balsa edging.

So i just need to get that cleaned up around the edges and can stain it. Thats all for now.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

AA, those spiral decals are designed to twist around the spinner. They do work, i have done a couple in 72nd scale. But i do prefer the ready made masks for them, but they only come in the larger scales.

Question: assuming you don’t have a decal for it (and even if you had one, I don’t know how you’d get it to lay down right, no matter how much Micro-Sol, etc. you used) HOW do you go about putting a nice, even spiral pattern on the propeller hub? I’ve been struggling with how to figure this out for my FW-190. Or should I just say “screw it!” and leave the hub solid black?

You are not alone Mark. I have to be VERY careful with my back that will go out if i fart too hard LOL. Indifferent I use two chairs in my man cave, one for the computer and another for the workbench. The computer one went kaput so it's residing in the trash bin now so searching for a replacement as we speak.

Your 190 pit is looking fantabulous. The pe sets it off.Beer

I really like your choice of colors.  These early Eduard 190’s can be quite challenging but your off to a great start!

Finally getting started on the Eduard Fw190 A-9 profiPACK. I'll be painting it in the following scheme:

Most of the cockpit came together without too much trouble... though I still hate PE with a passion.  Did some light weathering and called it done.

I'm already a slow builder, but unfortunately this will be an even slower build.  I've developed bursitis in my left hip, and a lot of it is due to the terrible chair I use at my bench.  So I've ordered a better chair for that room that I hope will alleviate some of the pain.  Fingers crossed.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks Bish. Was getting ready to start painting the Dora when I realized I forgot to add the missing rivets which is substantial. There are some flush rivets that need the jeweler's beading tool to make them but my small set is no where to be found so I ordered a better set on ebay. This will set me back some so to be continued soon.

While looking for my missing beading set I found my Batman picture autographed by Adam West that I have been looking for months! :whoo:

Best books I've read on the Fw 190 are the three:

I got all 3 from amazon. They had amazing pictures in them, plus the text was pretty good too. I'd highly recommend them.

Is that the ones from Classic Publications. I have a couple of those on other aircraft, they are really useful.

Chad, thats a super interesting scheme.

Bish, that's a great photo, really good to build one just like it.

Brandon I just bought the old Heller 109B/C so I could do that scheme.

Cheers

Hey MM that is one sharp looking paint scheme.

I'm gonna add the fuel tank to my Dora and it's nice OOB but

I'm not happy how the plastic fuel lines look. First I drilled where the lines plug into the fuselage.

and bent my own out of soft wire. It needs some minor adjustments and will be glued after the paint goes on.

Looks like Miss Dora is ready for the paint shop very soon

Hello friends!  There are some GREAT builds in this GB!  So, it's time for me to get this ball rolling.  I cracked open the box and found Eduards new Fw 190 A-4 to be of exquisite quality!  I'm going to attempt the colorful camouflage of Oblt. W. Nowotny of 1/JG 54.  Beer

Oh... I almost forgot... If you REALLY want a book, The Great Book Of WW II aircraft by Grinsell and Wantabi covers most all of the frontline aircraft of all the combantants. Now, its a Hoss... this booger is about 3 in thick and weighs somewhere in the area of about 10 lbs.Its a BIG book but a good book.Could be a bit pricey, but again, bought from amazon used for a fraction of the actuall cost. It arrived in like new condition. and loaded with pictures and stats as are the other ones.

take care

Doug

Bish, Squadron Signal books are pretty well done and as you said the "walk around" books are really good. I also have the "In action" books on a few.

Andy...There are a set of those books by Crown publishing and the other two I have of that series by the same researcher and artist are the Bf 109 and the Ju 87. All are available on amazon, and in my opinion very good referance books. Now there is another I turn to a lot... Its German war planes of World War two.by Francis K Mason   published by Cresant Books. It has most all of the first line aircraft like the Ju88, Me110 , Me262, and several others including the 190 and the 109. Many cut away views and valuable specs. Well worth owning and also got this copy used from amazon. Check em out... Well worth the look see.

Hi Guys,

I haven't done much with the 190 but I did work a little on the seams and canopy, which I need to attach and mask and get to painting this bad boy.

Andy...

Gladly! The ones I turn to most often are the Squadron\Signal publications , I have 1for the 190 & a seperate one for the190D Another real good publication is the book Focke Wulf Fw190 , by Robert Grinsell illustrated by Rikyu Watanabe published by Crown Publishers inc. This book covers both the 190 As most all variants , the 190Ds 9 thru 13, and briefly the Ta152. It has a butt load of specs and numerous fold out pages with several cut away images. I have several others but they are pretty basic. What I really want is one of the Haynes publications owners manuals... Someday maybe. As I said there are others but those are my go to books for most info. Hope that helps...

Thanks Doug! I've seen the Squadron book on Amazon and I'd like to pick that one up. I'll have to check out the one by Robert Grinsell, sounds good!

WIP on my Italeri 1/72 FW-190-A8.  This is a really old kit, not so great quality, flash needed to be trimmed from literally EVERYWHERE.  We’ll see how it turns out...

Its hard to see, but there is a bar running throug the rear fuselage, the aircraft has a hole of either side just forward of the tail. A close up look shows the bar just sticking out, the stand is supporting the tail up by that. They would often use jack stand for this.

I do have a set of jack stands that would work, but i fancy trying the field built stand.

Bish,

There's probably some padding or something that will protect the aluminum skin once the engine is removed. There will be quite a bit of weight sitting on the stand once that happens.

Short update as i am just about ready to start painting. I have added the final parts of the kit, minus the undercarrage which i usually add at the end. The angine had been painted, i just have to add the braces and a bit of pipework. The CMK set comes with what i think are meant to be tubes for the over engine MG 17's to go in, but none of the pics show anythin like them. But i do have a set of Aires MG 17's which i was going to lay on the ground having been removed, but the engine goes further into the fuselage then i thought and the cover above the MG mounts is still in place so i will fit the guns to the engine.

I am just waiting on a Montex mask site i odere from Hannants and should be here by Tues. In the mean time i will finish off cleaning up the wings and work on the other parts of the dio.

This is mainly this set from German company Airmodel. They have a very nice range of German ground equipment and most of my dio's has something of theres. And this is a very nice set.

You can also get each bit, the winch, engine and crate seperatly as well as the engine and crate together.

I already have the engine and crate together.

And thats where i am at now. As for the dio, like most of my builds, this was decided on a long time ago, I already have dio ideas for about 60% of my kits. But just before xmas i was looking at some pics in preperation of doing this build and i came across the pic below. And that added some thine else to the scene. Not only was it of interest because it has the winch and crate i am useing, but because the aircraft tail is raised up, i had not seen that before. But it makes sense for the fuselage to be horizontal if removing the engine.

My scene will have the new engine in the crate and the old one still fitted and crew still removing the covers.

I later found anothder pic of a 109 with the tail raised up, but with a tail stand made with metal rods. This makes me think this are built by the unit. So i will be scratching one from some evergreen plastics.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
