Weekend GB: See you in November!

Eagle, your S1B looks so great! You've made me jump into my SV hoping to look half as good.

I just may try my hand at the S1B after my other commetments on this GB. The paint job worries me a bit time wise though, but what the heck I should have at least 1 build completed by that time.

I think I'll start on Turkey Day with the Bat cycle. that should be a quick one being all black.

LOL!!!  Yeah, the taping of those odd patterns for the boost stage are very tricky.  The worst part was every reference I looked at (including the Airfix box art and instructions) were all different!  But in the end, it looks super cool with the paint scheme they used for the booster section.  So, the time you'll spend on the taping will be the big time killer.  The kit itself goes together very quickly...especially if you do like I did and glue all stages together and not do the little bit of detailing there is for the stages if you seperate them.  Either way I think you will be happy with the reselts. 

Bat Cycle!  Can't wait to see that one!

I am ready to rock!  I'm finishing up my Saturn IB so I can give 100% attention to this GB.  I'm thinking I'll start the 23rd.  I'll get up that morning before the kids, turn on some Iron Maiden and jump in feet first!  LOL!  That gives me friday and Saturday to complete it.  Can't wait to see the other builds!!

Think I'll stretch the comfort zone a bit and start with a car. II''l give Tamiya''s 1/24 Mini Cooper racer a go.

Not sure what I'll be building yet....most likely a 1/72 aircraft, but possibly a 1/35 vehicle.

In my fit of shameless hucksterism yesterday,  I went back through the previous iterations of this build and learned a few things. There are model categories that have been severely underrepresented in this build. There have been no Civilian/Commercial aircraft built. There have been a couple of vignettes, but not dioramas which is understandable (a vignette is a slice of life while a diorama tells a story). There have been a couple of Sci-fi entries, but none recently.  There have been no real space entries. Why do I bring this up? Two reasons. One is simply a suggestion for those looking for something different to do. The second was that I've never really stepped out of my comfort zone with this build. With the exception of a 1/700 Hobby Boss submarine (had like 10 parts and three were the stand), I've always built aircraft, it's what I know. While I'm pretty sure a military plane will be built this year, maybe I'll build an airliner, or a robot, or a spacecraft to boot.  Less than a month to go!

Was a great GB last year. I had a good time. My Xmas shopping is 90% finished, so my weekends will be mostly open. I would like to try two.

AMT 1/48th Gloster Meteor.

This is really the only thing I can get built in the time alotted. Y'all have fun. Can't wait to see the results.

I will be doing my last PM "What if" kit I have.  I bought a bunch of these some years back and have been using them for the Weekend GB's.  This is the last I have.  It's the PM 1/72 Ho-229 A-1.  They go together pretty fast, it's the crazy camo scheme I need to come with.  LOL! 

Thank you sir.  I only want to pull the trigger a week early.  Heck, it may inspire some people to give it a shot.

I thank you for hosting this build again.  It is a ton of fun to push your limits with this insane time constraint.  I formally ask your blessing in starting a week or two earlier.  With my commitments around Christmas I don't get to contribute as much as I would like.

I understand family and job constraints. If you need to start a little earlier, that's ok. Just don't get too far ahead of the class.

I got a Monogram 1/48 SBD specially for this GB.  I built this same kit when I was nine on my bedroom floor within a Saturday morning, so I should be able to build the same kit within 48 hours.  Hey, how hard can it be?

 

 

I wager you are a whole lot more detail orientated now, which could slow you down a tad. 

 

Yes, but back when I was nine, I had to build with Ambroids tube cement and Humbrol enamels.  I am now armed with fast drying liquid cement and acrylics .

And my first build had lots of detail, all those prints that got burned into the plastic from glue covered fingers was battle damage.

I'll give it a shot. Revell 1/48 P-51B. Missing a couple parts and no decals but maybe I can make something of it.

Giving this one some serious thought!  Every time I do one of these I tell myself it’s the last one! Lol

A tip that will make your build easier. Drill out the holes that the mounting pins go into. It will help reduce the gap that needs to be filled and make your build a little easier.

Thanks for the tip, Lewbud. I'm using this as motivation to get my workshop cleaned up and ready to roll. That also means my wife and daughter get their exercise room. A real win-win.

I'm in with the 1/72 Hobby Boss Hurricane MKII/Trop easy assembly kit if that's allowed. This will be my first group build so should be fun.

Now I'll have to learn to post pictures too.

Since I built a sailing ship and a submarine, which won a 1st place in a model contest within 48 hours, but could'nt build a stinking 1/72 simple airplane, I am going to try again with an airplane.

Bob, dry fitting and washing the plastic are okay.

Littletimmy, it's in the past, you'll do okay.

Steve, I wouldn't sell your attempt short. It's not like you were having life changing surgery or anything.
