R.I.P. Mr. Mayhew...

I guess none of us are getting any younger. Still a little amazing to me that SW came out over forty years ago. I think of Star Trek the Next Generation as the 'new' ST even though it's over thirty years old. Gee, how time flies...

Looks like a great start from everyone so far.  Just got started with Bandai's TIE Striker from Rogue One. and haven't done much except for put a little bit of paint on the pilot.  I'll show another pic of him once he's all done.

We’ve all had those days where nothing seems to go right. Yesterday was one of those days. First I see that finish issues have completely ruined what was the best camo paint job I have ever done on a plane. Ugh! So then I move on to the Metal Earth Millennium Falcon. I really should have chosen a different subject for my first foray into this medium. After several problems I decided it just wasn’t worth the headache that this $6.00 kit was causing me. Into the trash it went.

So onto my entry into the GB. The B-Wing Starfighter. I’ve decided to paint on the sprues, so my first step is to shoot a coat of primer. I paint and go to set it aside when I realize that I have just painted the clear canopy! Now none of the Bandai kits that I’ve done so far have included a clear canopy, just the open frame. I knew this kit had one, but that fact slipped my mind. So before the paint dried, I tried to remove it with thinner. Big mistake. Although it got the paint off, it etched the plastic to the point where it was bin worthy.

Totally frustrated at this point, and it was only 9:00 a.m. to this point in the day, I decided to just back away from the modeling for the day.

This morning, with the sun shining for the first time in a week, and a clear head, I’ve decided I have three options. First is to just go with the bare frame that my other Bandai Star Wars ships have. The second option is to just make my own canopy with clear styrene sheet. Third would be to try and sand through the etching until I get back to a clear surface. The canopy is rather thick, so I think this may work. If not, then I’ll go to #2 as I don’t really like the look of the bare canopy.

But for now, since the sun is finally out, I have a significant amount of gardening to do to get ready for planting this years veggie crop. And then there’s the lawn. Oh, I dont even want to talk about the lawn after a week of rain! Hopefully the tractor will start.

Hopefully you can get around the canopy problem.

I finished the pilot.  Little bit of detail painting, Future for the gloss areas, and the decals on the helmet.

@cwalker3,

I know how you feel, I've had the same kind of days. But, I'm sure you will get past this canopy issue. I am looking forward to seeing this B-wing come along.

@SB,

Your pilot really looks the part. Great job!

@Falcon,

Hey, the Empire can always use more target practice! Welcome aboard!

Cwalker: I know what you mean, been there, done that, got the T-shirt... Sometimes it helps to walk away for a little bit, Just don't do it for over six months like I do way too often.

Nice work the rest of you!!!

I'm on holiday/vacation right now. Be back to work on Han when I get back.

John, you have a 3D printer!! Too cool! Have you heard of Thingiverse? Click here

Search for Death Star Tiles, they are downloadble and if you need to you can scale them in your software as needed.

Hope this helps!

Yup,  I get a lot of my stuff from there,  I think I deleted the tiles I had before so gotta search for them again.

Very nice! What model 3D printer do you have? I'm interested in picking one up, and value the input from experienced 3D printer users.

that's kind of a funny question,  I work in the R&D dept. of one of the major 3d printer manufacturers,   So i have one right next to my desk  and about 40-50 of them out on the test floor.

I now have what I would consider a actual 3d printed stash of future projects.  it's almost like work ing in a toy store sometimes.   Now if I new solidworks better it would be even worse.

John: Very cool!!!

Our library has a 3D printer that I've used for a few items so far like this cartoony samurai for the Silly Egg GB.

Alright, getting started on the B-wing. For right now here are the sprues shots, I know they have been shown before but seems a good way to start.

Started on the cockpit and pilot tonight, I will get some photos up tomorrow.

So, getting started with the cockpit. This version comes with a sulustan pilot, I believe the SDCC one has a human pilot.

Those 3D printed parts are awesome! I can't wait until I can get my hands on one.

Nuc that looks really great! Love the painting on the pilot.

I finally got around to finishing the cockpit, and there really wasn't a whole lot to it.  I painted it in Panzer Gray and dry brushed with RLM 75. Gloss, decals, then flat.

Looks good Bob. You can't see much in those ball cockpits can you. I was looking at getting some resin ones for my Fine Molds TIE's but then thought whats the point.
