Both K2S0 and the SD are both awesome!!!

Sorry I really need to get some more done on Han, I've got a few other GBs that I really need to finish first though... Confused

Well, here's a start--my presssshussssss arrived today (finally! Been waiting since pre-order back in Feb).

The amount of detail Bandai crammed in for the scale is insane (as usual):

Still debating with myself whether or not to build with lighting kit, or not. Hm.

Ted: Looks great to me! Black is a pain, if you go staight detail just 'disappears' into it. Like what you've got there. And metallic can be a pain too, what you've got looks 'right'.

Bish,

I used black, blue, flat white, and flat base.  All tamiya acrylic thinned with their lacquer thinner around 40% paint/60% thinner.

Thanks, it must be the blue in there thats gives it that colour, it looks really nice.

Thanks.  It's the first time I mixed paint with anything other than thinner.  I wish I could say i came up with the formula on my own but I just followed the instructions and found a paint cross reference chart online to convert to tamiya.

I wish I was talented enough to find a shade of a particular color and start mixing paint and replicate it.

The silver on k2's shoulder was mixed from gunmetal, flat aluminum, clear red, clear blue, and flat base.  My wife says they're just trying to get me to buy more paint. That can't be totally true Zip it!

Ted, what colour did you use for that. Its almost looks like a very dark gun metal to me.

You nailed the black, Ted! K2 is gonna look awesome. Propeller

Agree you don't want him a deep inky black, or won't look right. It's a hard color to get right sometimes.

Cheers guys. I think i went a bit to far with the staining from the missile launchers, but decided to leave it.

GamerA- makes me giggle too. Maybe a better matchup would be jawa vs ewok?  Stick out tongue

Bish- I echo PB, you certainly choose appropriate colors.  And the scorching is pretty sweet as well.  It may have been on purpose but everything in the prequels is too clean.  You did it right.

A little progress this weekend. I was disappointed how the color turned out on k2so's head after I mixed a batch of his main color following the instruction's paint guide.  It seemed too black.  I tweaked the formula a bit for his body and am happier with the results.

Bish: Looks awesome!!! I love the worn area around the missile launchers on the lower skirt but great job all around. I've seen these put together by kids, kinda hard to remember how good they can look in the hands of good modeler! Kudos sir!!!

Ted: Always figured R2 did sabotage R5- he's a clever little Censored. Though I wonder if the Death Star plans had ended up in the mitts of the Jawas would they have sold them to the Rebellion? The idea of the Jawas attacking the Death Star gives me the giggles...

Now *that* is a properly weathered AAT! Well done, Bish. Yes Yes Yes I always thought they were a little too clean in the movie, should've looked like yours. Nice base, too. Will look great on your shelf.

And thanks for kind words re: speeder bike. You, too, Bruce.

Finally got the final pics taken, was just waiting to get m,y 251 done and get the booth up. As you can see i went for a very heavily weathered AAT. Lots of chipping, heavy staining around the missile launchers and some heavy washes. Other than the paint issues, this was a fun build and really pleased to have this one again, much better than my original one.

Next up the Striker. I have made a start and should have the pit ready for pics soon.

Thanks guys.  Slow but moving forward.

Porkbits

LOL, Gamera, thanks! That is some truth. Maybe with more pie the Troopers' aim would've been better? Big Smile

And thanks for the kind words, Ted. R5 is that droid--the one which, if he didn't have a bad motivator, would've left R2 (and the Death Star plans) with the Jawas (and presumably would've been captured by the Empire), thus scuttling the Rebels' plan of destroying the DS. So....I guess R5 is a hero?

After I asked about R5 I did some googling to find out more.  There's speculation that the Force caused motivator issues.  I also found a meme suggesting Artoo sabotaged R5 which was worth a laugh.

I mentioned a connection between Lando and R5. I misunderstood- the droid I was thinking of is Ruffi Vaa not R5.

Porkbits,

Great job on the speeder! Really a wonderful job, the chips and weathering are spot on.

Porkbits- great job on the speeder.  Looks great.  Paint is fantastic.

Is that the droid that Luke and Owen almost buy?  With the bad motivator?

I think Lando had a similar (if not the) droid in some old SW novels.

Great work, man.

Oh wow great job there PB on the bike, scout, and R5!!! Love the grungy look you've got there and the chipped worn paint on the bike turned out perfect! Yes

PS: Personally I think I'd replace the bedroll with a refrigerated box full of pies. They do have pie in SW don't they??? Smile Burger

OK, finished the speeder. Another excellent kit from Bandai! The provided base was bland (about the only thing Bandai doesn't excel at is the design of its stands), so taking cues from builds I saw online, I dressed it up a bit with fake aquarium plants and other landscaping bits.

(Oops-realized I broke off a handlebar brace while taking pics-will make another one)

And for whatever reason, builders obsess over the bedroll, making their own with tissue paper and glue, trying to get the texture *exactly* right. So I said "f--- it, why does it have to be a bedroll?" and scratched a couple of comm/sensor boxes for the back:

Also found a good eBay deal from a Japanese seller for the Sideshow Collectibles R5-D4. Solid prop, but the red panels were more of a orange/pink hue, so I repainted them a darker red and gave him a heavier grime wash. Have wanted an R5 for years, so really happy to finally have one:

Sorry for the ten miles of photos, so thanks for looking!
