Lol. That would be different.

After exactly a year of waiting, finally got this guy today. No assembly or painting required, luckily:

OK, NOW my SW collection is almost done, I swear. Ahem. Cough.

If I were with the Trade Federation I think I'd program the droids to repaint the tanks when they get chipped up.

They someone would probably hack the droids to have them paint the tanks hot pink or something like that...

Looks awesome Bish. I'd figure it would be made out of some sort of futuristic super tough alloy but I guess it would chip just the same!

Thanks G. ye, super tough alloy but cheap paint.

Awesome! The wear around the nose and rocket launchers looks great. A properly beaten up and filthy tank.

If you have seen my armour builds, you know i don't go in for much chipping, if any. So this time i decide to let myself go with it. Quite pleased with the outcome. There were a few spots i took it down to the plastic, i just wentt over that with some tamiya. I followed it up with a couple of clear gloss coats.

Then a heavy raw umber oil wash.

I've since added some heavy staining around the rocket launchers and fitted it to the base, just got to get the final pics. I'll be glad to wrap this one up and start on the Striker.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed your beach vacation (jealous).

It's been a while since I did those builds, but pretty sure I used Vallejo black primer for both the B- and X-Wings. It sprays really well, just give overnight to dry or will peel off.

Also, *don't* use it as the top coat when chipping, it's has a polyurethane base so doesn't react well with hairspray (did a test just for kicks).

Wow, so much has happened since I was here last. Was down the beach for a bit with the wife and grandsons. We had a great time, but I'm glad to be be back home. Anyway, I see some really nice builds are coming along.

PB, that's quite the line-up you have there. The weathering on your B-wing and Rogue One X-wing are good examples of what I was shooting for with mine. As far as chipping is concerned, what color is used for the primer?

You're welcome. The timing of everything if the tricky part, so might take some experimenting. I've found with Tamiya acrylics that if you apply the water within an hour of painting, the Tamiya can literally peel off (since it's not dry). So I tend to let the water dry almost completely and then start scraping (very gently) with either the dull, pointy side of an X-acto blade or toothpick.

Cheers for the info PB. I knew about useing Acrylics, but not about not leaving it to long. If i have time i will be adding the AMT STAP and i might give it another go.

Thank you, Bish.

I had to experiment some with hairspray/chipping to get it right, but most important things I found: make sure to use acrylic paint for top coat (enamel won't work), and don't let the hairspray or top coat dry for too long (or you won't be able to scrape off the top coat).

I usually give the hairspray an hour to dry, apply acrylic top coat, and then another hour or two for top coat to dry. Also, when adding water to top coat to start the reaction, the length you let the water set/dry into the top coat will determine how hard/soft the paint will be when you go to scrape it off (which also affects the type of chipping you can do).

If you guys already know all this (and you probably do), just tell me to shuddap.

Your AAT looks great Bish! The colors look spot on to me. I haven't had too much luck with the hairspray technique either.

Thanks Bob. Good to know its not just me, but you never know until you try.

Bish, it is looking good looking forward to how you finish. It would be interesting to see some form of German armor camp on it.

PB, agree with everyone, very nice collection. What scale is the nebulon in?

Thanks Nuc. I did have a second kit with the idea of doing a German 3 tone camo scheme, but i ditched that idea and sold it off. But would be interesting to se.

Bish

I used Alclad for the base. I have never tried hairspray before. And the issue was only in patches, which makes me think it might have been somthing else.

Is that the 1/5000 SD with the lighting kit.

I just used Alclad as base coat for the speeder bike, and had no problems. So could be the hairspray? I read online at some point that the cheaper the hairspray, the better.

But, yeah, the preorder is the 1/5000 SD with the lighting kit. Yes I was hoping Bandai would make it bigger, but I'm sure it'll still be awesome.

I did use a very cheap hairspray. But i am pleased with the results i have by just scrapping and rubbing. so its worked out well.

I am sure it will be, i am still in 2 minds about getting the big Zvezda kit, so will be looking forward to seeing the bandai kit.

Wow looks like the delivery team played soccer/football with the package!

Sad to hear some of the parts weren't molded properly, looks good now though!

Thank you! Big Smile

Nebulon is two feet long, so I think works out to about 1/500th scale.

Oh wow, I didn't figure the Nebulon was quite that large! And 3D printed she must be insanely heavy. I'd be afraid she's break along the central spar.

And expensive! I had my personal ship from Star Trek Online 3D printed and it wasn't cheap. I'm not going to be nosey and ask prices but I bet you paid a pretty penny.

Yeah, it's pretty big, so I inserted a wooden dowel the length of the ship. Could use it as a baseball bat now. :-) It was a few hundred dollars US, but I think I overpaid. The guy was selling a 3-foot version, so I asked if he could size it down to two feet.

He agreed, and after waiting for weeks, the box finally arrived like this:

Yeah. Not what you would expect for the $$$ I paid. In his defense, it was around the holidays in the US and I think the US postal service was mostly to blame. BUT--he used barely any packing material, so several of the parts were broken (it came in eight pieces for assembly). Luckily, nothing I couldn't fix with a little CA.

The other issue is that I think because it was the first time he reduced the scale of the original CAD files, the printing quality was wonky and some of the parts were malformed/unfinished. :-( He agreed to re-print one of them, but that took another few weeks.

In sum, it's kind of a miracle I got the Neb to this point.

Bish

I did go over the areas Steve but it just happened again. I have resorted to a blade, sanders and a bit of thiner. Going for some heavy chipping and weathering.

Ya, there's something about the plastic they use of that kit.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
