Despite the issues, the PIAT is looking very nice.

Okay I started laying glue into the PIAT:

Fit is...lousy.  Most parts need a bit of trimming before they mate with their opposite halves, and even then I could not get a few seams to match up.  There are also lots of mold mismatch on parts, and lots of small bits of flash.  Nevertheless, it is coming together and should be finished soon(!!!).

I also started the Enfield rifle, which has all the same problems as the PIAT.  Pics to follow.

Hello Svenne, thanks for the warning about the Humber Scout firewall section.  Have taken a look at the parts and tried some dry fitting.  The piece fit is not perfect, and notice a gap in one corner by the floor - so maybe the top on the same side of the firewall needs to be sanded down slightly.

The instructions are not the best illustrated either.  There is a lip along the interior hull sides to help align the piece in question, but they have you place the firewall right on the lip instead of behind it.

Have also looked at the hull roof.  Talk about fiddly, no anchor points and it just floats on top.  Hopefully the addition of front and back sections will provide some aid in that repect.

Also tried a little test comparison.  After scanning the firewall part, made another copy of the image (red coloured) and flipped it to compare the angle of the sides.  Seems one side is slightly of a different angle than the other:

Jack

I just had a look, i do 72nd scale myself so not familiar with the kit. Thats an HAR. 3 and what you would need is an HC.4. I could not see one in that scale. I have the Cyber Hobby 72nd kit with Falklands markings, but its a bit confuseing. I have had to do quite a bit of research to find which to use for 82. I plan on doing a Falklands War GB in 21/22 to mark 40 years.

Bish

Svenne, sorry, i think we were cross posting so i missed your post about the Staghound, now got you added. Out of interest, what Sea King kit are you getting?

Jack, really looking forward to that. I saw the kit a while back and thought it doesn't look like it is a WW2 vehicle, i really like the shape of it.

Hi Bish,
Initially I wanted to do the Hase #7456 but looking at the price tag that is only going to happen after the big lottery win next week...

Any suggestions wellcome, I wanted to do a Falkland kit.
I had just left the army myself bak in 82 (swedish military service) and could well imagine the horrors on everyone.

Hi Jack,
I remember having some fit issues (probably self inflicted) so I went back to the instructions to check it out.

The firewall A26 is fitted to the main hull D on page 3. I found that in doing this I had pushed appart the sidewalls to be to wide to fit the hull roof E that is assembled on page 11 properly.
Lookig at reference pictures I decided that the panells should fit edge to edge with the exception of the lip over the door on the port side  and the minimal weld bead on the startboard side.
Check this page for reference (pictures from the WarWheels.net)
http://www.warwheels.net/humberscout2varga.html

I might have been wrong (yeah i know) but since the corrections I did at the time were quite laborius you might want to convince yourself.

Thank you Bish and Svenne.

This particular type of scout appears to have always been deployed in a mixture of vehicles within recce car regiments,  with both corps and divisional army units.  I think I've seen some within HQ of armour units as well.

Looking at the various box arts from Bronco, I think I do see a resemblance to Michael Caine.  I got mine on ebay (vendor dawngrocerystore), and same seller shows he still has at least 10 of these:

Right on, if that's the case, then tentatively put me down for a 1/35 Humber Scout Car.  At least the vehicle is of British design/construction,  but will be in Canadian markings at around the time of Normandy.

regards,

Jack

Excellent choice Jack,
Bronco acually released one with Michael Caine (supposedly) depicted as the commander from the movie "One bridge to far".

Never managed to get my hands on that.

Very nice kit, a little gem!

Good luck!

Hi,

Yes, my original thaught was to skip the rocket rails and apply other changes required to build a regular BA vehicle.

But...

From the instruction leaflet I quote:

"...some cars of the 12th Manitoba Dragoons were fitted with launch rails to fire aircraft rockets.

The 12th Manitoba Dragoons was the Armoured car Regiment attached to Canadian 2nd Corps fighting in N.W. Europe. The Rocket launchers were probably fitted in the winter of 1944/45 as the regiment patrolled the banks of the Maas river in Holland."

That tulip equipped Staghound is interesting.  Does this mean Canadian marked equipment is accepable?

regards,

Jack

I think he was planning on converting it to British Army standards. But if those Candian units are under British command, then thats fine. So for example, Candian forces in NW Europe in 44/45 would be fine.

Svenne, put you down as a TBD. Any of those 3 subjects would be fine, so just let me know what you going for, if not all 3 Wink

Thank you Bish!

Put me down with the Staghound while I get the Sea King on order!

Svenne Duva

Hello Bish,

Would the Westland Sea King Mk 4, ZA298, be an option?

Greetings
Svenne

Because it was a part of the CHF and used to support the Marines, yep, that is an option.

Right,

the only references I could find to the Sea King was under RN command so I take it that this is out.

Interesting subject though.

Have a Bronco Staghound (Canadian late) in the stash that could probably be brough to BA standards.

But is is maybe rather a SOD contender, had it since 2010 (me thinks) and have fitted upper and lower hull + the 2 part wheels and some other 2 part assemblies like fuel drums.

Still a far bit to go to 20% completion though.

Also found the Humber Armoured car Mk.IV, from Bronco in the cellar.

This one is a special edition (1 out of 3999) with full interior and transparent & standard hull parts (CB35081SP).

Daunting...

If I would cut sprue on this one I might finnish in 2030.

Anyway - it is up for grabs...

Chad: Looks great! You're making great progress and looks to be a neat clean build. Looking forward to seeing the paint on.

Bish: Thanks. Going to look around a little more. If they don't suit no biggie, I've got lots of other stuff they will work with.
