Hi,
Would have loved to join the build. Unfortunately our project is already under way. The idea was to have it finished by 6 June. We are doing a large diorama depicting a small section of Omaha Beach. The diorama measures 1.8 meters by 1.2 meters ( approx. 6 ft by 4 ft) and has figures, armour, bunkers, landing craft, beach obstacles, mines and the lot thrown in.

Rebelreenactor: Is it too late to join the build? I mainly do aircraft, so I was thinking of
building a British Hawker Typhoon ground attack fighter-bomber (1/32 Revell-Monogram) with invasion stripes. These tactical aircraft played a large part in helping to
paralyze German communications & destroy the Wehrmacht's vehicles both on D-day &
afterwards. If you think it's not suitable or someone else is doing it, let me know & I'll try
something else. Is there a list of all the participants so far & what they're doing? By the
way, I'm sorry to see that your attempts to be accomodating have provoked acrimonious feelings from some of our members. I guess that's what you get for trying to be nice. Anyway, don't let it bother you. You're doing a great job organizing all this. Keep up the good work.

Thanks reb! Just after I entered the previous post I believe that I saw that an
English fellow is also doing a Typhoon in 1/48. If that's true & it creates problems then I'm also prepared to switch to a 1/72 Italieri C-47 or a landing
craft. Is it Kosher in a group build for more than one person to build the same
subject? I also wouldn't want to offend our English friend since he was there
first with the Typhoon idea (assuming that he is in fact officially in the build &
doing a Typhoon). I think I'll go back over the posts & double check this. But
whatever the case, thanks again for the invite.

Couple of questions on the GB , first Official start and end dates ? ( Just too lazy to go through 19 pages O' thread ) 2nd , do we need a to do a vehicle to join in ?( I would like to do a small fig dio of the intial assault on the beach ,( no vehicles ), would give me a chance to do some allied figs for a change .

I wouldn't worry about duplicating-- there are three of us doing Priller's 190 (although I came up with the idea first Wink [;)])...and I am also doing a Hawker Tempest as they flew missions on the 8th over the beaches....

Spector822002, figures are allowed, and will count. the official start dates are on the1st page, (june 6th-August 6th)

Mobydick,
Its pletty fine to do the same subject, No matter wich way you go you will probably end up doing the same thing as somebody else. I am doing italeries C-47and glider, and also i am looking for a landing craft. So dowhat you feel like.

Hey bro-- go to your local supermarket or store right now (actually- this is good advice for all in the group build)-- there is a special D-Day issue from Time for $11-- it is awesome and on page 60 is a picture and little caption of your grappling hook...if I had a scanner I'd scan it in for you..but the whole thing is the best issue I've seen on the 60th anniversary...although I haven't gotten my FSM yet LOL

Count me in John ..... I probably have too many other builds on the go, but what the hey.

I'll be doing an M4 Sherman as it looked when it hit the beaches on D+1.

Jeeves & Rebel: Thanks for the clarification & reassurance. I'm new to the forum as you can probably tell & I haven't quite learned the ropes yet. So..... one Hawker Typhoon coming right up. In about a month, that is.

Does anyone know what colour the earth would be around Juno Beach? I'm going to be doing a dirt road as part of my diorama and would like to make it as realistic as possible. Thanks.

For the couror of dirt imnot sure, but i can make some guesses. The weather was wet and cold, and it is on the coast. so probably a darker color.

I got the time magazine and i was wondering what page has the grappling hooks on it, so i can scan it.

Shermanfreak, ur in.

I just looked on page 60 of the time magazine, and didn't see the picture. i did see a picture of a rager who scaled point du hoc but that is it. Is there more that on magazine?

to clear this up i will descrbe mine, and you (jeeves) tell me if it is like yours.
Mine has 89 pages counting the ads.
3 articles on D-Day.
And when you open up the cover you see a picture of a red car.
is this the same magazine?

Firefly Vc were used during the landings .... I'll need to root through some of my references to confirm if they went in on D-Day or D+1 or D+2.

Sorry bro-- this isn't the same thing. It's called D-Day 24 Hours that Saved the World with an Introduction by Tom Hanks. At 154 pages, it's more of a book really than a magazine. The picture is actually of an artifact at the D-Day museum...maybe you could email the museum and have them send you a pic of it?
