For anyone modeling D-Day air power, I have a hard cover reference that lists the complete Order Of Battle for the Allied forces on June 5-6. It doesn't list individual AC serials however. I have not been able to find a similar listing on the web, though it probably exists somewhere. For Axis airpower there is of course no similar listing, but the reference does list confirmed Allied kills covering all of the time span of this GB, which at least indicates the various types of AC involved in the battle. If you're not sure if a specific Squadron or AC type was involved, post the question and I'll try to reply.

I just found the following site concerning German armor in Normandy on D-Day. It does not say where or how any of it was deployed.

http://www.dasreich.ca/normandy_oob.html

The page intro says:

"The following diagrams provide basic information regarding the vehicle and manpower make up of the 2.SS-Pz.Div. 'Das Reich' during the Allied Invasion of Normandy in June 1944. This breakdown does not represent all of the units that comprised 'Das Reich' or their complete TO&E, rather it provides a basic understanding of what units fielded a particular piece of equipment, and what the manpower availability was for the Pz.Gren. Regiments, Pionere Bt. and the Aufk.Abt. The camouflage represented on the icons does not necessarily represent the exact schemes used by 'Das Reich' during the Normandy battles."

Ok, I got it narrowed down. I am doing an M10 from the 635th TDB which was attached to the 1st ID and landed 7 Jun onto Omaha beach. Now all I need to do is narrow down the M10 varriant Smile [:)] Any help? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone know of decals/transfers for this TDB (635th) I think I will do Co "B" after I reasearch the numbers.

Man this has really become fun! What a great idea! I can't wait till the 60th Anv. of Ardenes, of the Buldge...etc!

Now all I have to do is build the thing

Das Reich began to move to Normandy on D+1 (7 June) but did not complete its move until about D+14 (20 June), so one cannot assume that all (or even any) equipment types were indeed present on 7-8 June (to meet the GB guidelines) without detailed research.

That does it !! Drop me from the build. Angry [:(!]

We haven't had a set of standards that have lasted 48 hours. Disapprove [V]
Money spent wasn't a criteria before, why now ?
And you told EasyCo how to adjust his schedule & he just keeps coming anyway.

I'm sorry you & some others aren't taking D-Day or Group Builds seriously.

Jratz,,, I would like to know why you are taking this so seriously???? Does it really matter who finishes there model first or for that matter when. Yes its true nothing is in stone but I thought the true purpose of any build is to build a model. Am I wrong?????
I sorry you feel you have to quit the build, but like I said I dont understand why you seem to be so upset about this.

Rebel if I have steped on your toes I apoligize but I just needed to say something about what jratz said.

WoW! Got a little emotion flowing! Ok fellas lets take a step back, take a deep breath and think about what we are saying here. I think what Jratz is trying to say is : EasyCo has a nice build, but he did not meet the guidelines established for the group build. Afterall I have numerous kits that are of the type this group is about on the shelf, but I can't submit them because the GB starts on 6 Jun. While the tone of his post was a little Angry [:(!]angryAngry [:(!] I do think he rasies a good point. Cool [8D]

I think everyone that is involved with this GB should consider what this all about. It is a tribute to the Heros (both sides) involved in the initial phases of the liberation of France.

Stick with the original rules, with no "free passes" and do your own research as to what is in and out. We are putting too much pressure on rebelreenactor, and not being fair to him.

That blows, I'm out. Angry [:(!] I'm mad because rebel keeps changing all these rules and I'm also mad that easyco (Nice Fw190!!!Cool [8D]) gets to be in the build when he didn't even start the build during the time frame. It's like me grabing a model off my shelf and saying "oh, I built this a while ago, but it fits with the d-day rules, so can it be in?" And let me ask you a question rebel. So it's ok for easyco to be outside the start-finish dates, but it's not ok for me to be out of the june 5-6 dates? I'm out because the rules were extended for a long time and finally when I bought the model it got changed back and now I see the same exception with easyco. I'm also out because the GB host is unstable and keeps changing everything with a hidious exception thats totally not fair. And BTW easyco, I wouldn't think that fw190 (although nice!) will be in the GB because it's only a matter of time before rebel gets hit with complainers like me and decides to take your 190 out. I want to be part of the GB, especialy since it's the 60th anniversary, but I don't have enough money to keep buying models and then seeing the rules getting stricter which makes the model I just bought not valid. TAKE ME OFF THE LIST, I'M OUT FOR GOOD!Angry [:(!]

I didn't want to make all that anger directed towards you easyco. After reading the message again it almost sounds like everythings put on you. But I'm trying to help you. I don't want you to get dissapointed if you fw190 will be disqualified. You don't have to quit the GB unless that was your only model and it will take a while to get another. And capt, I'm making a normandy GB just for the occasion-see you there.

Ok, I am going to say a quick word here.

The whole reason for group builds is to be able to share information while building a common topic. Having said that, I personally think of the GB “rules” as more of a set of guidelines. And trust me; none of you are going to “make” me do anything, but some common sense might be appropriate. Ok, this discussion has been going on for way too long, lets stop pointing fingers, wrap it up and get to building…

ArmorMaster, if you want to build a Tiger 1, then build one!!! I’m not sure if it will fit in the group timeline, but hey, they are guidelines anyway and we would all love to see pics of your Tiger whether it is in the group or not.

EasyCo, great looking bird you have there, keep up the good work and I think your model is a great way to kick off the D-Day build. I am sorry if your first impression of the armor forum has not been a good one.

Wow, what a lot of angst. I've been a contributor to the Forum for a while, but never participated in any of the group builds. When rebelreenactor suggested the D-Day GB, it caught my interest and I had the time so I signed on. I always thought GB's were for modelers with common interests building similar or related models during the same time frame. Seemed like a great way to share research, learn from others, share in solving modeling problems, meet some new friends on-line, and most important having fun. Then some of the armor modelers realized that their favorite Nazi wasn't qualified to the original guidelines and lobbied for rules changes that totally lost sight of the GB premise. Then one of the airheads decided to build an AC way before the start date which to me is a lone build with no Group interaction. Then just to prove that no good deed goes unpunished, rebel bent the original rules to accomodate the few and has been hammered for it. So he changed the rules back and gets hammered again, mainly by the guys who Censored [censored] it up in the first place. When the GB and guidelines were spelled out, we all had 2 choices, In or Out. Not, I want in but only if I can do it my way and to Censored [censored] with every one else. Now edog is trying to make decisions that rightfully belong to rebel, the originator & moderator of the GB.

Iv'e researched my build, bought the kit, decals, some PE & resin, have about $60.00 committed. Doesn't matter to me, I'd have bought them sooner or later anyway. I still hope to see this GB through, if not I'll just do another lone build, same as I've been doing for the last 50 years or so.

Just myMy 2 cents [2c].

I feel that the originator of the thread should more or less have the final say. I'm not going to say I'll agree, but he started it, therefore, it's more or less his game.

I feel that the starting date should be firm. I mean everyone wants to start early. But then what is the purpose of having a start and end date if everyone makes up there own rules?

I said this in another build, you should have to finish the entire build before you earn your patch. Just my strong opinion. Wink [;)]

Finally, The whole purpose is to have fun and share information. This is a unique build in that there could be many forums involved. Members not familiar with one another may get to know one another better. Heck, some of us may be influenced seek out new frontiers, by building things that we don't normally build. I think some members need to lighten up and let rebel reestablish himself as the leader of this thread. Come on, this is an important event we are recognizing in our own special way. Let's pay a memorable tribute to our fine vet's sacrifices that made that day so endearing to so many. Smile [:)]

I think I have the right to ask rebel if he could extend the dates and he did, so I thought it was %100 percent ok with him. After buying the model then he finally tells me the truth. I'm not so mad that I can't do a tiger, what makes me mad is that it took me $30 and a month to figure out that he really didn't like the idea all along. If I can't do a tiger, then fine I'll go on to seek out something in the time frame. If you didn't like the idea of extending the dates on the GB, then you should have firmly told us tiger fans no and that would be the end of it.

I'll let one person slide (EasyCo) on building the model early. NO MORE BUILDING BEFORE June 6!!!!! Dont want another problem. ArmorMaster, I apologize for the mis hap. you are welcome to post progress reports here. But personally, I think your Normandy GB is a good idea. If i wasn't committed to this, i would join that. Good luck on it.

Now changing subjectsWhistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Whats every one building For this build?
I'm building a 1/72 c-47 Skytrain and Glider
and maybe a 1/35 LVCP
I'm still looking for some armor so dont worry!Big Smile [:D]

Tamiya's Marder III M. Which brings up a point. I'm not sure the kit comes with the proper D-Day decals. Do I have to buy some that qualify?

A rather easy build, a Tamiya 1/48 P-51B " Berlin Express". Would like to do something more challenging, but it's golf & gardening season and the build window is relatively short.
