Kennethc:
i keep coming back 2 the scene in The Longest Day where Beach Master Colin Maud
gets a stuck Universal Carrier going again by thumping it with a cane... but i'm not sure
if this means i need a thump 2 get going myself, or if it's the scene itself i should be
recreating ?Confused [%-)]
THUNDERBOLTS??... or maybe a Hellcat, it's on the FSM D-Day list & i know there's already at least 1 Jug in the GB, LOL.... a plane, ohmigosh... get the filler ! Big Smile [:D]
how about a German gun emplacement w/ either a 20mm Flakvierling or a huge 88 ?
or a Panzer IV waiting 4 orders 2 move up ?
my head is spinning....
if i do the Universal Carrier scene, i can scratchbuild a few hedgehogs & maybe some
barbed wire 4 a dio base, maybe even do up a fig 2 represent the Beach Master & his cane... but where am i going 2 find a 1/72 bulldog (he had his dog Winston on the beach with him, apparently) ? LOL...

Frosty: ....Indeed... That "Jug" is mine... I am doing a Tamiya Razorback...(Whooo Pig Sooieee)!! Oh the horror......Big Smile [:D] No filler in this one.. The fit is unbelievable!!

I like the gun emplacement idea. Nice scene maybe an hour before it all started with some soldiers clamly sitting around breakfast...

Good luck anyway...

Rebel & gang: Should be done with my Typhoon in a couple of days & will have a pic or two for you by the end of the week.

Joe: when you've finished your P-38 it would be interesting to hear from you on the
pros & cons of the foil method vs. conventional mettalic paint. Was it worth it? Did the foil give you results that were a quantum leap beyond paint?

will do. so far the results are good but compared to some of the other nmf builds i have seen this build is sloppy. i made some big mistakes, such as the sections of foil were much too large, i spread the glue much too thick, i was too impatient. painting would have been easier but the effect would have been lost i believe. i think that with this experience if i do this type of thing again i could improve the finish. but then i went into this saying it would be a learning experience.

being as ur location is Arkansas, the Razorback is quite appropriate ! Big Smile [:D]

have been, shall we say, questionable...Wink [;)]

Well time for me to get off my duff & post some progress. My build is a P-51C from the 363rd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, 8th AF. Using Tamiya's excellent P-51B kit as the base, with some AM goodies to spice it up a tad.

Here's the basic cockpit tub glued into the left fuselage half. Mix of kit, resin & PE parts. Sprayed with ModelMaster Interior Green, Green Zinc Chromate, Olive Drab & Dark Tan. Detail painting brush painted with Vallejo acrylics. Weathering done with Burnt Sienna water color & Prismacolor Silver & Light Grey pencils.

And here's another pic showing the Ultracast resin seat with brush painted seat belts.

Here's a pic showing the Eduard PE Instrument Panel.

And here's a pic of the right fuselage half.

Now have to glue the halves together & start moving on to the end game.

I was making good progress on my dio and Priest model, but the last two weeks have been uber busy so I haven't gotten anything done lately. The dio base is finished, as is the basic Priest, but I've still got to add extra gear, weather it and get the crew finished up. Still got a month though, here's hoping.... Wink [;)]

I don't have a digital camera so it's hard to post progress pictures, but when it's all done I'll post pictures for everyone to comment on.

Good luck to everyone else on their builds Smile [:)]

Mostly done with Typhoon. Still have a little touch up to do on it but it's at least presentable. To see it click on the "web" icon at the botton of my signature & then go to
"Group Build One". It's in Photobucket.
Re the Typhoon: this is a 1/32 Revell kit. Fit was a major issue in only 2 spots: on the
bottom of the fusalage where it joins with the wing assembly, and then the canopy, the
fit of which I can describe only as excrable. Because the curvature of the canopy did not
match the curvature of the fusalage the two made contact at only two tiny points, which made anchoring the canopy very problematic. I had to pack putty mixed with liquid cement under the front part of the gap. The back part I left as is. Also, the rockets I borrowed from a 1/32 Hasegawa Hellcat kit (the same one that you see now on my signature pic). I don't think that these are really historically accurate since the Brits (I believe) used rockets that launched off wooden rails. Some of you might know more about this. Anyway, it is what it is. Thankfully the camera hides a multitude of sins.

Thanks Joe. The build has progressed and the wing is now assembled to the fuselage. Just about ready to prime & paint. Will post some more progress pics in a day or two.

When I did my first household foil finish (f100), I made the same mistakes and had the same problems - wonderful learning experience tho and I am going to try it again, the finish is worth it.

Just started my piper l4 - looks like this is going to be an easy build OOB.

i thank you all for the kind words and the helpful comments.
