I'd like to point out for all those you haven't seen this yet: intruder_bass is doing a mega-super detailing of an MH-60L over on the Helicopter forum: http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=42713

He's got lots of cool stuff going on over there with his build, not to mention the fact that he's actually making progress!

well I figured that this GB thread needed a bump so I pulled my Hawk kits open an began the process of scratchbuilding the Medevac Kit. I have the carousel built - think that I might build another with what i have learned after the first copy. I have also opened the right pilots door and added detail to the seat( ie the side armor plates) and the 5 point harness. I have added the WSPS detail to the windscreen and have begun to install it all in the fusalage. I'll try to get some pics up this week. On my Kilo - I have put together the Robbie tanks for the cabin and the ammo system for the mini guns. I will be scratchbuilding a bunch of details for the outside of this nightstalker bird.
I have decided that the Medevac bird will represent one of ours as it was during OIF II last year, should make an interesting diorama.

blkhwkmatt,
The litter rack sounds great. Would llike to see some pics since I also plan on using the diagram you sent me to build it in 1/35 for an Academy MedEvac UH-60A. Looking forward to seeing the pics.

HeavyArty,

No problem, might be a few days before I have the chance to post anything due to being busy with some civilian ed. stuff right now. Never fear though I shall post some info soon.

High time for a progress BUMP -

Here are a couple of shots of my first attempt at the Medevac carousel config in my 1/48 hawk. I also added side armor to the pilots seat from .010 card stock and some wire and harnesses to the kit seat from foil.

Notice that it is not complete yet, some of my measurements were a bit wrong so the sides ended up too small, I will be adding more to the sides and working on the top soon.

Anything that you guys might have to say would be great to hear.

My progress is the following:
- Completed the PJ figures
- Completed the HGU-56 conversion (nedd to make a silicon mold)
- Completed the ammo box modification
- Started working on the fighter pilot conversion
- Started working on the cargo ceiling conversion (thanks Intruder_Bass)
(Will post pics next week end)

Great work blkhwkmatt!

My MH-60K is coming along...very slowly. Benn on holiday for the past 2 weeks, so I didn't get much of anything done then, plus I've been torturing myself with my Dragon MAZ-543. Anyway, hoping to get more progress going soon...pictures to follow!

Thanks guys for the comments, I have the litter pans built somewhat - think that they may be a hair too long and dont have the handles on the ends yet but - I shall continue to slave away on it. I have the carousel installed in the cabin now and am working on the driveshaft covers that I'll be posing open to expose the driveshaft going to the intermediate gear box.

Hope to post some pics soon.

Hehe, I was starting to think that this build was jinxed, but obviously at least one member is working on this.
I'll continue to work and concentrate on it, when my other projects are done, just remind me not to join GB's untill I finished this one Big Smile [:D]

Hope it is not too late, but OD Green is not correct for a US Army helo. Standard UH-60L is US Arny Helo Drab, it is a dark green, almost black. Testor's Model Master has the color in the bottle. For a 160th SOAR MH-60K, the color should be flat black with dark OD Green markings. See Pics.

Black MH-60L/Ks

Also, the upswept ESS wings were only a prototype and never approved/purchased by US Military. All current MH-60Ks use the standard downswept ESS wings.

Well, ratspit. Disapprove [V] Thanks for the heads up, Gino. That's what I get for following the directions with the kit. Here's what the box art looks like, FYI:

So I'll strip off the uprights then (don't feel like scratchbuilding at all) and repaint. Looks like US Army Helo Drab is FS34031, does that sound right to you? I'm almost positive my decals are in black, unfortunately. Here's my dilemna: my LHS doesn't carry much, certainly not the MM paints in the 2000 series. I'd have to drive 40 miles to the nearest one that carries this paint. My alternative is to order it, but that's nuts to pay shipping for one bottle of paint...unless I need something else. I could order new decals from Cobra Company and do the helo in black, but it would be cheaper to order the paint. Suggestions, thoughts?

Note: whoever can guess where "Well, ratspit." came from wins two points. Big Smile [:D]

I just did some more research and found these pictures:

Those look like operational helos to me...with the same sort of fuel-wings that I have on mine. Granted, my color is still wrong, but the fuel tanks look right to me...

Anyone?

Suggestion for the color Knight.... try mixing your own? should be too hard, maybe not 100% accurate but worth a try. Olive drab with liberal amounts of flat black?

Sorry, the pics you have are of the test bird. See the orange probe sticking off the refueling probe, it is a test probe for airspeed, crosswind, etc. and other data. The upswept wings were not bought by the US Military.

For the Helo Drab paint, that is the correct FS #. If you can't get the MM one, you could follow Awood23 suggestion for the paint as well. If you look back through the UH-60 GB posts, I believe that someone has actually given the mix ratios to mix it yourself. If not, just post in the helo forum and someone will answer up pretty quickly.

Gino, thanks for the confirmation on the wings; I'll rip those off tonight. I can order the paint...I guess I'll just have to order something else to hit the $10 minimum at Great Models. Big Smile [:D]

Helo Drab would look O.K., but these aircraft, Kilo models, are only used by US Spec Ops, i.e. 160th SOAR and are usually in flat black, like almost all 160th SOAR birds. You may want to get the CC SOAR decals. Send me an email and I will send you a decal file designed for 1/35 SOAR birds that Avus and I developed. All you would have to do is reduce them to 73% for 1/48 scale and print them out onto white decal paper. You have to use white so the decals do not dissappear into the black fusalage color. The decals have a black surround that hides the white decal film. I used them on my MH-60L DAP, you can see it here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v231/HeavyArty/MH-60L%20DAP/

A little update on my progress. Didn't have much time to work last night, but I managed to rip off the wings and clean that up and then paint the helo flat black, or at least the top half. I'll turn it over this evening and paint the underside.

Here's the updated pics:

Ripped the wings off, painted it black. After this pic, I painted the details (landing lights, strut shocks, etc.) and then Futured it. Hoping to decal tonight (got the Testors Decal Set over the weekend).

Looks much better to me. I've always prefered the black Nightstalker paint to standard US Army Helo Drab. It just looks much more aggressive to me.My 2 cents [2c] Thanks for the pics John.

Again, great work so far knight667.
I'm curious to see how the decals turn out reducing their size.
In 1/35 some of the stencils are barely readable; hope that in 1/48 they won't turn out a mess.

Here's a pic of the cargo ceiling I'm making with help of intruder_bass' scheme.

Hope to complete it next WE.
