Great progress everyone. I hope to get started Monday.

Jeff, You can put the tail wheel in the Tamiya kit whenever you choose. It does not have to be assembled before the fuselage is buttoned up. Actually, the instructions show it going in after the fuselage is assembled, Step 8.

Regards, Rick

Howdy, looks like everyone is settling in. Gonna start on my stang today! I've been busy rounding up some Aces for the Wings Over Houston Airshow autograph tent, and getting flights and hotels booked. So far I've got P-51 and P-38 Ace Maj. Jack Ilfrey (7 kills), http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/6940/index.html , Corsair Aces Col. Archie Donahue (14 kills and twice Ace in a Day!) http://www.dallasjournal.com/articlesview.php?ID=218 and Dean Caswell (7 kills and former Blue Angel pilot)' they were aboard the Bunker Hill when she was hit by 2 kamikazes. Also attending are Tuskagee Airmen Lt. Col. Lee Archer, Dr. Roscoe Brown, Col. Charles McGee and Capt. Percy Sutton with the possibility of 2 others yet to be confirmed. If anyone has any info, on the Tuskagee pilots they would like to share I would appreciate it, as I need to create a story board for them. If you would like an autograph let me know. Thanks

Heya Tim...

Ask me whatever you want to know-- I have been researching them pretty extensively for a year now... here is one of the best online sites to peruse regarding the Airmen:

http://www.ebonywings.com/

Again-- just email me if you have any other questions...and if it doesn't cost you anything, I would love Lee Archer's autograph-- he was truly the only "ace" of the Airmen. He flew "INA the Macon Belle", Dr. Brown flew "Bunnie", Col. McGee flew "Kitten", and I am not sure about Capt. Sutton...but I will try looking for you...

Wow. People are making good progress.

I spent a lot of yesterday and today working on mine and here is where I am at.

The metal finish is SNJ (my first time of trying BMF) and you can mask over it with no problem, but I am finding that when you paint over it and then mask over that (white on fin or red on nose) you risk pulling it up. It would create a great chipping effect if it was what I wanted, but it isn't... Did I do it right? or is this just a characteristic of BMF??

Thanks for any comments.
Leon

Oh also, the differently colored metal is tamiya flat alluminum. Will I have to put future over those parts before decals, and if I do, should I just future everything??
Thanks again.

Ah gots th' yeller areas painted tuhday. I yoozed some o' that thar Color of Eagles RLM 04 a-cryllic. Nah, I nose it'sa one o' dem German colors, but it sure in tarnation looks like the yellers that's on them dee-cals. Almost looks so purty, wit' th' yeller tail n' all, it'd be a shame ta add them black checks. Oil well (litt'l Texas humor fer ya !), it's a-gotta be dun ! Be seein' ya !

Ok i checked the list and happily my names on it so thanks for the acceptance....
Now i have to go and pick up the Tamiya kit,Jugdeing by all the great progress pics it looks like i'm a little behind the Eight Ball [8] but i won't be hurrying the build.....

Darson thanks for the heads up un the prop i had no idea it was differant...
I'm still a little unclear on which A/C to build i'd love to do an Aussie Stang but i don't like those British roundels on Aussie birds so if i can find one that has the Blue and White roundels i'll go for that,if not i'll more than likely finish it in US markings....
Cheers J.S..........

Thanks so much Mike. I was really nervous about the NMF and kept putting it off and off, but I am fairly happy with it. Of course there are some problems, but overall it went much better than I had expected.

The only thing I have to say about SNJ is the stuff stinks and the powder turned everything (my gloves especially and then everything I touched Smile [:)]) shiny metal, but it worked...

Thanks again. Now hopefully a coat of future over it wont change the looks too much.

Well Pix gave me an idea and I am running with it. I painted my blue bits ahead of time, plus it gave me a chance to paint freehand. Gonna let this dry over night, have my canopy and screen in future. Gonna put them on future my blue bits then let that dry over night too then mask it all off proper.

Heres a peek for ya all.

Vallejo Flat blue... then very thinly weathered with The same blue whitened.

happy Stang'n

Heya New... This is my average build pace. Its gonna slow down now as I have to scratch build the gun bay because the verlinden set's gun bay is too small. Plus I have to get the painted areas protected so I can handle and mask them. workin on the Canopy framing so I can stick the glass on it and get the cockpit closed so I can get the bird painted. Much more work to do.

It is coming along well Jeff. Do you plan on painting the fuel tank black? They were constructed of self sealing rubber and all the photos I have seen of them while being installed or constructed showed them a very dark (presumably black since the photos were all B&W) in color. None appeared the same shade as the interior.
