thanks for the warm welcome. The "Halifax" was a nice idea but i'm going to go with a Mark IV Bristol Blenheim in 1/72 from Airfix. i'm going to do some reading and pick a squadron and version.

Nice choice CruzrThumbs Up [tup]been thinking of doing a twin engined A/c for a while now, maybe next year............
Hey does anyone know what the Revell Stuka is like to build, i normally avoid revell kits but this one looks OK judging by the pics on the box, it's in a desert scheme but i can live with that as long as it's the right model B2 i think........
anyways i'l be doing it in the colours of the 77th, this group lost 16 A/C in one day over southern England..........Jules.........

Jules,

I am assuming that you are going to do the Revell (ITALERI) 1/72 JU-87B-2/R-2. If not then ignore this.

I have done a bit of looking about and come up with a couple of reviews of the kit for you.

If you are doing the 1/72 Stuka, you're a braver man than I am with the masking you're going to have to do on the canopy Big Smile [:D]

Cruzr,

I have updated the front page with your Blenheim.

Cheers

Cruzr, welcome to the forum. The Blenheim should be an interesting build, I can remember building that kit when I was about 10, which makes it a fair few years old. Still if I remember rightly it went together quite nicely.

Jules, you must be a glutton for punishment if you are going to mask a Stuka canopy!

Been thinking about what to build, couple of options spring to mind, Ju88 in 1/72, possibly the old Revell kit, or alternatively Hasegawa's Hurricane in 1/48. Not sure if the nightfighter Hurricane saw service during the BoB but wouldn't mind giving that a go.

Karl,

A number of squadrons including Nos 73, 85 & 87 flew the Hurricane Mk.I in a nightfighter role during the BoB.

Consider counting me in. I have the Academy Hawker Hurricane that is stalled right now for want of an airbrush regulator. If I can get one though, I may be in. Like I said, we'll see.

cool Lucien welcome aboard! I am at a standstill on what to build... don't feel like doing the Defiant in 1/72... I dunno why I am stuck on 1/48 at the present... maybe because this is the first time since I was a kid I am modelling in a house instead of an apt and I have room for them?

Maybe because I am becoming old and feeble and can't see the smaller stuff? hmmm... I'll post it tonight... gotta be decisive here... otherwise I'll end up with three kits and not know which one I wanna build first!

Darson, that pretty much decides the matter then.

Hurricane Mk1 night fighter it is.

Not sure I would want to consider rescribing the panel lines on another German bomber, which is what I would have to do with the Ju88 just yet, I still haven't finished scribing the ones on my Do217K yet!

I reckon I'll build........................................
Bf 109E-3.

And the time frame will give a chance to do some hard core camo work on it.

Thank God Sabre's weren't invented yet!
Sigh [sigh]

Might be wearing the GB tag a tad early, but call it advertising.Tongue [:P]
Might spur more peeps on to join, this one seems like an excellent idea!Big Smile [:D]

You never know if you are really lucky, High Planes might release a resin conversion for the Bf 109-E3 Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] It wouldn't be a group build without you doing something with a bucket of filler and some resin Big Smile [:D]

Good idea with the tag, I think I'll join you.

Darson,

I would like to join the group build also. I would like to contribute with building an Airfix 1/48 Hurricane mk1.

Thank you for the post, and the opportunity to take part.

Ok, it's definate.

I will be making a 109E-3 1/48, and a Bf 110 1/72.

Thankfully, with both kits, there will NOT be a resin part in sight.

Also just scored a KT 6 Kingtool modelling rig.
Kinda like a Dremel, but a heap nicer.

Should make sanding alot easier

Tho9900 the mirror may well be a good idea, one can never be to cautious you know...
Take me for an example i'm a cautious fellow and after watching the old movie
"Childs Play" i immediatly burned all of my kids Tweety bird toys..........just in caseDead [xx(]

Ahh you see i'm not the only one who is gonna have fun masking the 87s canopy,
Tweety's gonna have fun too, have you seen the amount of framing in a 110 canopy..
And i memory serves me well i beleive there's an Heinkel 111 in the GB as well...

Tho9900 thanks for the heads up mateThumbs Up [tup]i'll be buying it tommorrow, undoubtebly i'll open it straight away and have a little play with the parts, and i'll wanna start building it straight away tooSad [:(]but i'll have to wait..........Jules...........
BTW i think i'll join you blokes and advertise the GB a little..

A question:

I am half way through the HC CivilSchmitt (Ha1112 Buchon). This is the plane they used in the Battle of Britain movie. Essentially a Me109 mated with a Merlin engine. Does that qualify at all?

The kit comes with Luftwaffe markings!

cheers

Mike

If it were up to me I would say yeah as that was an awesome movie! I guess since Darson started the whole build he should be the one to answer that though. I think I'll have to watch it again tonight since you reminded me of it! Wink [;)]

Might give me the drive to finish it as it has languished for 2 years in the box!!

ahhhh....Me262 came into service in 1944/5. Do not think that would qualify for the Battle of Britain IMHO...

Here is a few examples. The Battle of Britain was fought between the 10th July and 31st October 1940.

http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/bobhome.html will help with info

Here are some aircraft that you could model,,,

Luftwaffe and Italian
Messerschmitt Bf109E-4, Bf110C, ME108 "Taifun" (airfield hack)
Heinkel He111H
Junkers Ju87 Stuka, Ju88
Dornier Do17 Flying Pencil
Arado 196 float plane

Fiat fr42 Falco (there are more but I cannot think of them off hand Sad [:(] )

RAF
Hawker Hurricane Mk1 (principal RAF fighter)
Supermarine Spitfire Mk I and IIa
Boulton Paul Defiant
Gloster Gladiator
Fairey Battle
Lyander
Handley Page Halifax
Handley Page Hampton
Bristol Beaufort
Tiger Moth (trainer)
Avro Anson (airfield hack)

There are certainly more but that gives you an idea of what aircraft are available to build!

hope that helps

cheers

Mike

Well i went out and got me the Revell Germany Junkers JU 87 stuka today and i'm quite impressed withe the level of detail on the exterior of the model...
the interior is another story though the pit is a little sad and the flexible MG for defence is more or less a tube with a handle rather than a gun, luckily i have kept some resin guns from Verlinden from about 8 years ago so i'll stick one of those in....

Thankfully the model came with 2 A/C options the Desert one and unbeleivably one from StG 77 summer 1940 so i don't have to hunt down A/M decals......

Theres not much to this kit so i'll see how i go and maybe i'll put together the other Tamiya 109E3 for this GB.........Jules.......
