Just a little info on the Hurricane I might build-
As I said, this kit was stared a while ago. The only thing painted on it is the interior (all brushwork. It's not very pretty. I may shut the canopy, it's that bad!) Many of the major components- wings, fuselage, tailplanes- are already glued. I forsee this GB will just be me trying my hand at some RAF camo (first time!) and adding the final bits and pieces like landing gear, antennaes, etc. Call it, if you will, an "experiment in finishing!" Big Smile [:D]

Wish me luck!

Lucien,

Believe me no one will thing anything of your work than fabulous!!! I know people tend to be generous with their views on builds here, but I even get "great cockpit I wish I could do as well" from people I wish I could paint camo like etc...

Just post it and we'll like it!

On a different note... today I came home (I was sick so left work early) and almost decided to can everything I was in process of building... I got into to many builds at once and I feel smothered... thinking of starting over and doing a new build for each GB (not going to get into so many at once again!!!) except for this one as I haven't even got the plane yet... it shipped today from what I can tell, so maybe Monday I will get it....

It got to me that I had an OS2U, F4U, Av-8B and a HH-65 helicopter going on at the same time.. and really was getting nowhere with any of them.... think I am going to ditch all but the F4U for now and concentrate on one (or two) builds at once...

Ahhhh, I tried the 'multiple builds at once' thing, and it really got me down, and nowhere at all.

Maybe some people can have 4 or more kits on the go at one time, but I prefer not to have that much clutter in my mind at once, I have trouble remembering my PIN number let alone anything else.

Darson i've decided to do a 109 aswell as the Stuka, this one will have the markings of Werner Molders machine.......more on this when it's not 1:28 am

Oh Yeah tweety your right about the camo thing not all 109's carried that scheme, it's just a matter of finding the one you want to doThumbs Up [tup]

Well, I have found a couple of 109 scheme's, but am having some trouble in researching whether or not they took part in the BoB.
The main group I'm looking at is JG54, now there are a few machines that played a part, but their dates are on the border line of October-November.

Hmmm, looking a tad difficult.

Tweety yeah mate 1st, 2nd and 3rd JG54 took part in the battle as a part of Luftflotte2.

I can't imagine that they would have changed schemes in that time, the book i have tells me the last sorties made by the Germans was on the 31st Oct.....

I know what you mean, the absolute most I can have on the go is two and that is one main project and one that I can work on while I am waiting for something to dry, cure, set, etc.

There are a lot of GB's and personal builds that I want to do, but I'm trying to be realistic about what I can start (and then finish).

I think that was my problem... I got here and saw all these cool GB's, all of them on kits I LOVE... well I start to building and building and BAM!!! one day I wake up and I have 5 unfinished kits on the couch in my modelling room... I ended up throwing one out and it discgusted me... (raised panel lines, etc... no detail, wrong scale detail etc... I'm not one of those accuracy buffs... but it didn't even look good.... I may redo the same kit in a different paint scheme without the PE and such... )

Anyway I have been under the weather the past few days and haven't built a single thing... thought about it... didn't do it. I think I needed it to get back into focus that this is supposed to be FUN!!!! So I am ditching a few builds for awhile... being my Fulmar hasn't even come in yet is nice too... it means I won't be tempted to open the box and start building before I know what hit me.,..

My research has given me a few 'quirks', for instance, the a/c I plan to do is from II/JG54, but was manufactured as a 109E-1, and apparently upgraded later to an E-3, during the BoB time line.
There are no noticeable diffferances between the 2 that I can make out, aside from a spinner cap, so, yeahConfused [%-)]Confused [%-)]

And there appears to be no designated pilot for the craft either.

Oooooooooooooohhhhhh, this is one of those phantom planes, I heard about them!

Sorry Julio i don't know where you can get them in 72nd scaleSigh [sigh]

Here's a pic of Molders 109 prior to the BoB, The aircraft received the oversea camo scheme of RLM70,71 and 65 before the battle but the markings are the same with the exception of the victory bars which had grown a little, the one photo i have also shows some fueselage mottling.......

I've done somemore research and found out that the Hasegawa kit that I had intended to use is now discontinued! Hoever Hannants have some in, so I'll hopefully get to buy one before they sell out. failing that it's standard Mk1 with AM decals for the night fighter version.

I fully understand the 'too many kits, too little time' scenario. I would have had 4 on the go this month, but ended up junking one, just not happy with it, and laying one aside for another day. That has left me to work on two very different machines in different scales. I'm now making progress and enjoying myself.

I can't wait to see the other builds as they develop, especially the more obscure machines.

Well good news and bad news.... The good news is I got that Faiery Fulmar in yesterday... ::clearing throat:: the bad news is I already threw it away....

I spent 5 hours sanding ONE wing just to even get it to fit together and it STILL wasn't fitting... then I realized on of the exhaust manifolds somehow didn't make it into the box...(actually it came in a baggie) I had high hopes for it.. for although it lacked any interior detail whatsoever it did have white metal landing gear, seats etc... and it was something I've never built or seen someone else build before... I might fish it out of the trash can and have another go at it today but I was just so upset that someone could market this... it wasn't cheap either... 14 dollars for about 12 parts and a sheet of decals...

Hope your search for an alternative goes well.

Don't get downhearted just yet Tho, there is ALOT of time between now and the finish date.

I have a 1/48 Airfix Catalina I've been 'working' on for around 5 years now.
And yes, the fit IS that atrocious, but hey, no rush.

I'll photo the unbuilt kit and add some reference like the wing that is WAY out of shape for its lower half to fit right etc... just so you can see if you wanna tackle the job.. There is a 1/48 coming out, actually 2 if I am not mistaken... one is the Warrior resin kit, the other I cannot remember for the life of me who it was.. great models had it listed as "Future" on their site but I searched for it today and it was gone.. so don't know if they canned the kit or not.

yeah strangely enough I kept the kit and maybe that was the thought... something to work on in a rainy day.... this just isn't atrocious... the right wing upper and lower halves were at least 1/2 inch different on the trailing edge, so I had to start sanding at the joint where the wings and flaps join and still have at least 1/4 inch and 4 or 5 hours into it... I might even scratch build the other exhaust... if only because this is an odd kit...

Announcing my new build, not real different, but no one else is doing it... the Ju-88 is I can find a kit period accurate...

Also a Spitfire MkI or MkII done in 71 Sq, ... Eagle Squadron decals if I can get them.. Working in VA and military hospitals I got to meet 2 members of the eagle squadron... one of them I wish I could remember his name... William (Bill) was his first name... anyway I digress... he was the first Lt. Gen who asked me to call him by his first name and I was 18 and an E-1.... so thats it.. a kit I can find and is fun to build... probably 1/48 as I like the scale...

Hi Nicholas, welcome aboard our little group build. I have already added your name to the participant’s list on the first page.

Even though we haven't started building yet, there is still a lot of discussion happening on all things BoB.

Whoops tho9900 I almost forgot, it's not too late to change your mind (back) to the Boulton Paul Defiant if you want too. Here is the link to Hannants
http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=CF471 they have both the day and night fighter versions available, which means that a release to Greatmodels cannot be far away.

Cheers

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Tho, I had the Ju88 on the short list of things to buy, it's a Dragon 1/48 Ju88C-6, and with some research, and a little revesre engineering, won't be too difficult to back date it to the BoB time frame.
Only 6 months diff between the 2.

Ok, I tell a lie.
5 minutes research revelaed the diff between the BoB Ju, and the c-6 version.

For starters, the nose isn't solid, it's glass, and no antenna array.

Might just stick with the 2 I've selected, but that would be woosing out.

actually Tweety, the Monogram Pro modeller Ju-88 C-6 Nightfighter kit comes with everything to build several versions of the Ju88, including the glass nosed one.. it has the 4 cannon nose mount, a solod metal nose mount and the clear parts... also different moldings on the plastic parts too... you would have to probably research to see which go to which but they are there... I might do another Monogram instead of looking around.. it's a nice fitting kit with a fair amount of detail...

I think I saw that Defiant down at my LHS... I might do it.. can't hurt! I'll let ya know!

Thio & Tweety, if you're a real gluttons for punishment, there is always the Revell offering in 1/72. You'll need to rescribe all the panel lines though! Having said that it does come with lift off engine covers and engines. Good for a Dio with some Airfix Luftwaffe groundcrew! Almost feel like doing that myself.

Nick, that Defiant looks like an interesting build.

It depends on how critical we will be on accuracy.
The BoB Ju was the A-1 version, and from my research tonight the tail rudder was different, the wing span was shorter by 2 metres, and the overall wing area differs by 3 sqft.

I can't beleive I'm looking this far into itShock [:O]

Gotta get a life!

Went to the LHS today looking for appropriate kits for this GB. Picked up the Hasegawa 1/48 Bf-109E-1 & 1/48 Hurricane MkI kits. I'll do the Bf-109E-1 for sure & the Hurricane also, depending on my schedule come February. Markings are TBD, as I have to see what decals I have in my stash or can pick up between now & the start date.
