G'day all,

Just finished work so I thought I would log on and see what is happening. So in answer to the questions and so on:

Mike, as long as the HC CivilSchmitt (Ha1112 Buchon) is not your primary build, then yeah I'd love to see it. I love the Battle of Britain movie; it's awesome especially cranked up real loud in DTS surround sound.

fighterguru, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] aboard mate, glad to have you with us. I'll update the front page with your builds.

Cheers
Darren

Absolutely no updates on my position. I apologize if things are moving a little slow; I kind of have a slightly larger project in the works! (In addition to my own GB to run. Motions below.)

Just a little info on the Hurricane I might build-
As I said, this kit was stared a while ago. The only thing painted on it is the interior (all brushwork. It's not very pretty. I may shut the canopy, it's that bad!) Many of the major components- wings, fuselage, tailplanes- are already glued. I forsee this GB will just be me trying my hand at some RAF camo (first time!) and adding the final bits and pieces like landing gear, antennaes, etc. Call it, if you will, an "experiment in finishing!" Big Smile [:D]

This being said, I'm getting the badge/tag anyway. If things don't pan out and the regulator doesn't appear, the worst I can do is just get rid of it. I do have until Feburary.

Wish me luck!

Sean,

Done.

Lucien,

I see what you mean about a slightly larger build Shock [:O]
I'll put you down for a Hurricane Mk.I and you're absolutely right you have till Feb till this GB officially gets started.

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] Me too.

I just received my Cutting Edge canopy and wheel masks, Cutting Edge Spitfire camo scheme A masks, Ultracast Spitfire Mk.I exhaust & Ultracast Rotol 3-Blade Prop & Blunt Spinner.

Now what do I do with it.

I may have to get a BoB fix in the mean time and do a Bf 109 E3, just for fun.

Whats this 'wait' talk I see here??????
Guys, guys, guys, do you have any idea how many BoB subjects can be built in that time?

At least 4!!!
(or one Avon Sabre!Tongue [:P]Clown [:o)])

Seriously, I was going to get masks for the camo on the 110 and 109, but thought I'd give it a go freehand.
Been looking for a reason to see just what my airbrush can do with me flying it.

I do have some BoB part 3 decals coming, and a couple of PE sets for the E3.
Wasn't alot available for a 1/72 110, so may be some scratchbuilding where needed.

One things for sure, the weathering is gonna be extensive, and a whole heap of FUN!!!!
How dirty would these planes have been...............flying numerous sorties, with record breaking turn arounds................ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Can't wait.

Hello folks,
I´m new here at FSM Forum.
I´m 33 old and I use to built plastic models as a hobby during free time.
I like to built 1:35, 1:72 WWII militaria and 1:72 WWII aircraft. I´ve some built models and some sleeping into their boxes waiting for a good moment to came alive.
Here in Brazil is still dificult to maintain this hobby. There are few shops, the prices are expensive and the variety of models in not large.
By the way we try to organize events and foruns of discussion as this on FSM.
I´m at Orkut too - "Julio Loureiro", visit the comunity "Plastimodelismo".
I intend to built the Me Bf 109-E 1:72.

welcome Julio! Good to see you about already!

Disapprove [V] I still haven't got my subject yet... I am hoping St. Francis of Assisi will come to me in my sleep and let me know what it will be... until then I will keep you all posted...

something different, preferrably obscure.. oh well I might just do the He111 or Stukas I have on my shelf...

Hey! a PBY would count huh? I remember the owner of the hobby shop mentioned that.... prior to the BOB they were lend-leased to GB and even though they weren't combatants I am sure they flew recon.. I am going to research and see if I can find anything on it.. just hope I can get markings if this is the case...

ok I give up.. I found both the Fairy Fulmar and the Grumman Martlet (F4F)

I am doing the Fairy Fulmar of 808 Sq. 1/72 even though I really like 1.48... I just ordered it and should be here in a week or so...

this has been frustrating but worth the search... the grumman martlet was ok but when I found the fulmar, just ugly enough for me!!!... ends up 808 Sq. was coastal based at the beginning of the BoB, versus carrier based.. later it moved to the Isle of Man for coastal patrol and recon over the western approaches and the sea...

http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/804to808.html

I just had to be different... and if I have time the Hasegawa He111 H-6, Revell-o-Gram 1/48 Ju 87 R-2, and whatever else I can find... this period is where I fell in love with modelling... my dad had a complete battle scene from the BoB pinned to my ceiling... every night when I went to bed I would look up at the Halifax (not so sure it was actually in the BoB even though it was active and registered at the time) being chased by 2 Me109's with a Squadron of Spitfires diving in from above on their 6... And at least once a year we would watch the Battle of Britain with Michael Caine et. al. (just watched it last night for reference)

with that.. Good Night!

Yes i've had the BoB bug lately watched the movie a few times and dragged all the books out, mainly looking for Stuka operations.........
BTW StG 77 Stukas attacked an airfield full of Martlets and Fulmars of the FAA destroying 12 A/C but were intercepted by RAF fighters on the way home, and as usual suffered heavy losses.........

Ah Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Battle of Britain GB Julio, hope you enjoy building with us....Thumbs Up [tup]

Tweets remember the 109s received their oversea camo schemes when they arrived at the Channel coast when you weather it, all the pics i have show them to be quite dirty but not filthy dirty.......
Interestingly enough the 110s suffered almost as badly as the Stukas over England losing no less than 15 on the 18th of Aug, all the pics of 110s i have show them to be very heavily weathered but it's hard to tell with B/W photos

Cruzr, I am making the assumption you meant the Bf 110 not 100.

jcsloureiro, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the group build. Nice to see some Brazilian modelers on the forum.

Tweety, Don’t forget with your weathering that these aircraft were turned over at a pretty rapid pace. All the photos that I have seen show them dirty and grungy, but the paint is not that faded because they are still reasonably new.

tho9900, MMMMMMMM, Fairy Fulmar Tongue [:P]

J.S, I wonder if your Stuka managed to destroy tho9900's Fulmar???
Also, the Cutting Edge masks are available for the A & B scheme for Spitfire Mk.I & Mk.V. They are basically reusable versions of the canopy masks you can buy. As I build the odd Spitfire or two I figured I could save myself some time in applying camo in the future.

Cheers
Darren

yeah I was on the BOB website last night and looked through the day to day diary of the war... the highest losses, especially mid way through the battle were Me109's and Me110's. Sometimes as many as 15 or more of each per day...

Darson: I figure if nothing else I will win an honorable mention for the ugliest plane of the group build Clown [:o)]
Also, I might check out those masks, reusable you say? might be worth it for the moeny...

Jules: I seem to remember seeing some good resources on the subject.. it's a shame they don't show a little more of the Ju87 in the movie BoB. Just for a little reference. I'll post it when I can remember where they are.

What camo scheme did the 109's get?????

Julio, Sign - Welcome [#welcome], your with a good crowd here mate.
You don't happen to like cats do you?Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]

The decal set I have coming from the US didn't mention anything about alternate camo schemes, but haven't done a bucket of research on this yet.

Hello guys!
Thanks for the welcome! I´m glad to be here.
Sorry Tweety1, I like cats, I had a siamese a few years ago...
I´m thinking to paint the 109E-4 as the 5344, of the Major Helmut Wick, Kommodore JG2, nov 1940. I found a draw of it at a web site and I thing it was interesting.
There are draws, the history and photos of Wick´s 109 in the link: http://www.luftwaffe39-45.historia.nom.br/ases/wick.htm
Thanks again!
Read you soon.

Tweets this is the Oversea camo scheme, sorry about the pic quality but i just can't seem to get a good pic of this model, it's from 3rd JG 26 based at Caffiers France summer 1940,and it was the first model i made since rejoining the hobby.....

Darson now youv'e made me curious, gonna have to do some reading but i think it was StG 77 which attacked the FAA airfeild but i'm not sure which staffel it was....

Tom i just watched the BoB special features disc last night and they mentioned the Stuka problem, problem being there was no stukas left at the time of filming...
All the JU87's in the movie are R/C aircraft.....

Julio Good subject choice buddy Helmut Wick was the highest scoring Luftwaffe pilot of the BoB..Ironicly he fell to the Guns of Seargent Ginger Lacey one of the Raf's highest scoring pilots of the battle.........

BTW there are no DO 17's or JU 88's in the movie either.........

Actually in ref to his Stuka bombing my Fulmar.. this is a recent idea I hit on for a group build, thinking about just that.. a dio of his stuka bombing my fulmar...

... it would have to have like a 6 month to a one year deadline. an international group build! Each person does one step of the instructions and then mails the kit to the next guy who does the next step etc... It'd be interesting to see... or course it would limit us to smaller kits with the cost of shipping and all... but if it only cost me 11 dollars US to ship an airbrush complete with bottles etc to Singapore it should be less for a single kit... a price I would be willing to pay! either that one person builds one part of a dio, the other the other part etc.. then everything goes to the last person who finds a way to put it all into the dio...

I just think it would be fun to see what it looked like at the end... if it even makes it through the postal system alive! I guess if a piece got broken or something we would have to improvise and scratch build, or go AM for it... each person would build, take pics then send it to the next... or as I mentioned in the post, two kits passed around the world could finally make it to a good dio person who could build it into a dio!

This would be a ways off before I could start something like this as we all have so many GB's going at present but you guys mull it around and see what you think!

Ok, so would I be safe in assuming not ALL the 109E's got this camo scheme sloshed onto them???
Reason I ask, I plan to finish my E in a 'How the Censored [censored] did he do that!' scheme, obviously from the BoB era, and I would be kinda bummed if it didn't happen.Sad [:(]

Research time!!!!!

But, the logistics on such a project would be mind boggling.

I'd love to play a part in such an idea, but like you said, it's ways off, wait and see.

OK the scanner has been warmed up and here is an image of the Aeromaster BoB Eagle Day sheet that I plan to use as a bit of muck around build

The camo on the 109's is sort of the same but I believe that the mottling on the fuselage sides came in as the battle progressed. I'm sure one of the 109 experts could tell you exactly though.

I'm looking at doing either aircraft one or four. Aircraft one has a lot of personalized artwork including a pair of red lips smoking a cigarette under the cowling. Aircraft four I just like because I've always loved that line from the BoB movie "Yellow nosed bast***s coming down, now" and to me this plane is it.

On and Jules that Bf 109 is fantastic, a really beautiful job, no kidding.

Julio, I have read somewhere that the best way to apply the sort of camo that Wick had is to use a piece of sea sponge dipped in some paint and then dabbed on to the aircraft. I would have a practice on something else before committing this to the real model though.

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] No doubt about that.
Those masks are supposed to be reusable and I don't see any reason they wouldn't be, when they loose their stickiness I will just use a bit of Blu (Fun) Tac.

Julio, I think you have a bit of a permission’s problem with your icons.

I copied the URL into a browser and got the message "You do not have permission to get the requested URL from this server." . Which means that FSM does not have access and therefore cannot display them.
