Well, folks.... it's that time again....
February is Black History month, & i'm working on my Tuskegee Airmen
P-51c, this is the academy 1/72 kit:
i was originally going 2 build 'Topper iii', but then i changed my mind & decided 2 build it as
'INA, the Macon Belle', Lee Archer's a/c.
added some p/e seatbelts 2 the 'pit, i'll b touching up the paint where it got scratched when i
was installing them...
if anyone is thinking about building a Tuskegee redtailed bird, now's the time !

here is a pic of the p-51c i'm building:

this is the academy 1/72 'Red Tails' kit, i was originally planning on building it

as 'Topper iii' but it is wearing some of the decals from 'INA, The Macon Belle'

because i changed my mind at the last minute... unfortunately, the noseband decal

on the starboard side of the fuselage didn't stick very well, in fact it has disappeared

completely... & so, i mite end up doing this one as 'Topper iii' after all.

oh well, at least i'm back at work on it !

Dan - great job!!! I'm going to have to get motivated and post some myself...

Well I am still in here... I have my P-51D about 3/4 done, in the painting stage and I have the Alclad aluminum and Gaurds Red down... in retrospect I should have painted it on first THEN painted the Alclad2... where it goes over alclad it is a bright red... where it went on over bare plastic such as the spinner it is a darker red near to insignia red... oh well. Also I don't think I have an acute enough angle on the tail red... I am doing this one as Creamers dream and I have a dash-B on order for Skippers darling and that is the one I am doing for the co-workers kid...

should be done in a week or so and will post pics...

Hi all - First off as a new person here, I want to say "Fantastic Site" and "Fantastic Thread". I stumbled upon this site looking for planes to have painted for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. So on that note, I thought I'd show you Tuskegee representation in that computer simulator Smile [:)]

(F-16 from Luke Air Force Base that was actually painted like that)

Almost there, just need to install the exhausts and the droptanks, as well as some minor retouche.
I must admit I could and should have done better on the cage though, but I forgot to do the interior green before the bare metal.
This is what I have so far...

The decals, where hell, way too thick and hardly reacting to solvents, I couldn't get my yellow stripes to meet at the LE, so I decided not to let them meet, but to weather them at that place.

On the bench : Revell's 1/125 RV Calypso

PakNick:
those r the kit decals, u can also build this kit as the a/c which
is illustrated on the back of the book 'AT-6 Texan In Action'...
there r decals 4 the red cowling (didn't use that one, tho') & wing bands
as well as the national insignia & USN markings.
not a bad kit, but the Academy AT-6 kit in 1/72 is a lot better detail-wise
4 only a couple of bux more......

welcome & thanx 4 ur kind comments !

lodni_k:
thanx & i hope u get ur pix problems sorted out ok...

Frosty & Co, great Job on the Texan!Cool [8D] And Jeeves, Thanks for the pics of the TA birds! They are a real inspiration! My P-51B is still warming the bench but I'm doing a Airfix Mig-21 "Fishbed C" to test my NMF abilities!Big Smile [:D] Unfortuately, I don't have any way of posting pix up to my Photobucket account. The libery center here on base now has some new "Internet Cafe" software on the 'puters that keep me from hooking up the camera!Disapprove [V]

I wanted to bring this up to the top again for three reasons...

1. In case there are those who are still building and I didn't want to see them forgotten...

2. I seem to have gone a little crazy cleaning at Photobucket and lost all my pics-- so here are some newer ones:

99th FS P-40L "Ace of Pearls" flown by Herman "Ace" Lawson:

301st FS P-47D-- Unnamed....

100th FS P-39Q "Quanto Costa" flown by Samuel Curtis:

And finally-- 302nd FS P-51B "INA the Macon Belle" flown by Lee Archer:

I also wanted to tell those still building that http://www.ebonywings.com/ is back up again and is an awesome site dedicated to the Airmen! I gave the site creator a link to this build as well, so hopefully he will pay us a visit.
