Darren, I used polished alluminum & alluminum over Alcad primer. I did not use a flat top coat.

Darren, not yet mate but it's nothing unusual, it usually takes a couple of weeks to get things from Vic.......

Darren Yeah mate i've used it before but only once and that was enough to learn what not to do, when i read the directions on the bottle which said spray light coats i took it to mean mist the stuff on, that was my mistake, the alclad dried whilst still in the air and gave me a grainy finish so after polishing the surface smooth i sprayed on another coat the same way i apply any acrylic coat which gave me the desired effect.....
BTW you can mask straight over the top with 10mm Tamiya tape with no problems so you won't need to give it a coat of pledge inbetween different colours, just be carefull not to scratch it, i noticed it is easily scratchedThumbs Up [tup]
Oh yeah for the first one i used Tamiya Enamel gloss black for the primer, 2 coats then wet sanded with 1200 grit until smooth, seemed to work OK but for this one i'll be trying the Alclad II black primer.......

Hopefully i will be able to post some pics soon but my 2year old girl got a hold of the camera and broke the battery cover in two pieces, my sister has a pretty flash camera so next time she comes over i'll have her take some pics and burn them onto a disc for me but i won't be able to post many progress pics unti my camera gets fixed....

frosty and Jeeves great work on your builds guysThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

I was getting a little worried that i have overcomitted myself to GB's so i pulled an allnighter on my Has 1/48 P-51 D and managed to get the pit done and fues and wings joined, this week i'll give it a coat of gloss back and then i'll be ready for allcald 11.......

Jules, have you used your Alclad before? What did you think of it and what sort of primer are you using? Sorry for the questions but I will be using Alclad for the first time on this build.

Cheers

OK...some more advances on the paint at least...

As you can see, it is Futured and ready for decals...and therein lies my setback. I was hoping to add the squadron insignia but all I have is clear decal sheet- and it doesn't show up well on the OD...however- the Tamiya kit comes with some great nose art and a white decal that goes under it-- I may try trimming up that white to go behind my insignia instead...just gotta figure out how to do it- then it is on to finishing this one.

First of all let me start off with the fact that I am: 1. wicked, 2. evil, 3. the root of all evil okokok.. that was in a song once and I thought it sounded good haha... but I forgot to mail Jules and Sean their decals.. I will mail them hopefully tomorrow... this week was "TAKS" week at the schools and I got volunteered somehow to go handout lunches to the children instead of lingering in the control room having long converstations with my servers (I think the new Dell 2600 we bought has an eye for me.. will keep you updated Wink [;)])

But I will mail them soon... I did recieve the pic of the TA today I bought off ebay and while a bit dark it will do... interesting thing I noted on it though were that the external fuel tanks lowers were in OD and the uppers "appear" to be white...

will scan it and include it later... it's of Skippers Darlin with about 5 pilots underneath...
---Tom--- O' brave new world, That has such people in it!

hope everyone had a fun ( & productive ) president's day !
the weather was so nasty in my neck of the woods that i stayed
inside all day & got some work done on some modeling projects.
the airfix p-51d has been decaled w/ national markings & other bits
( a huge thanx 2 rjkplasticmod 4 providing me w/ aeromaster decals
4 BUNNIE in 1/72 !!!),
& the spinner / clear prop disc glued on...
just got 2 put the antenna on, & the yellow wing bands & she's done, i think.
i have updated pix, but am having trouble uploading them rite now...

didfal-- if you just go to Google, click on "Images" above the Search box, and then type in either 99th FS, 100th FS, 301st FS, or 302nd FS, you should find images...then it's just a matter of resizing them and printing them up on decal paper :)

brandonp51--

Until I figure out the manual focus on this camera-- this is as close as I can get and still be in focus...

I hear you-- I guess we have an advantage in their not being many documented pics of Tuskegee Jugs....I have my OD scheme nearly completed....and since all I really have for decals is the star and bars and the fuselage code numbers, I decided to add the insignia of the 301st FS to my cowling just to add some markings Smile [:)]

I'm doing the P-47D of Capt. Pruitt (one of the T/A's credited with the sinking of the German Destroyer), NMF 'Razorback'. His P-51B had "Alice Jo" so I'm takin' poetic license and putting it on the P-47. Considering that he probably didn't have time to name it because of the short duration they flew the P-47's..Big Smile [:D]

OK, Jeeves, I'm kinda following your lead on the Razor Back. Only mine is the Revell 85-5242. I'm slow walkin' this thing down because I want it to look nice. Now only the P-51B/C, P-39Q, P-40L, B-25J, P47N...... Then there's the rest of the stash.... this coulb become a job!My 2 cents [2c]

Cool-- what scheme are you looking to do?? I have to figure out what markings I will use from the Checkertail clan....going to take some looking....

I am sticking to only 4 Tuskegee builds to do-- I have the P-39 and P-40 done....soon to be done with the Jug- and will only have a P-51 left....I look forward to all of yours!

Jeeves, fightnjoe & KINGTHAD:
keep up the good work, guys !
i got inspired 2 get going on my p-51c last nite, popped open the clear
baggies & sprayed some flat gull grey over the sprues... got a bit too
heavyhanded w/ the paint & had 2 wipe off one wing topside, respray
& then do a bit of lite sanding so as not 2 obliterate the very nice detail
on the wing... this am, started painting the 'pit w/ interior green... my floor
is going 2 b wood colored, just because the part has a wood grain molded in
& i don't mind practicing my woodgrain effects on a part that won't show on
the finished model.
i'm officially on the flight line !
